I have a question for the resellers: In the interests of saving a few extra dollars, I was wondering whether any of the resellers or builders are willing to use my copy of Windows 8 Pro or Win 7 Pro?

I have free licenses through school and, while I could install them myself, I would love to be able to open the box and start using the machine immediately.

Hello, I am planning to purchase the Sager P157SM. After browsing through the owner's lounge, I noticed some posts that the touchpad is made by Sentelic.
When I contacted a reseller I was told it was Synaptics. Can other resellers confirm this for me?

    Thanks!

I believe it is Synaptic. Sometimes you see people use the Sentelic drivers on systems with Synaptic touchpads simply because of better functionality.

Any seller in UK (or ship to UK) that can sell me some Clevo P170SM screws? I've lost one, one of the heatsink ones. Not good!

Is there a heatsink like this for the CPU of an P170HM (np8170)? If yes, do you still sell it? I'm really on a need of one.

    Thanks!

It's not a service we sell as parts unfortunately, if purchased through us we can have you arrange sending it in to be done, but only available for our customers due to liability concerns.

If i ordered a barebones P370SM unit with just CPU and no MEM or VGA or HDD/SDD's , does this unit get shipped with all the necessary componants to build a working unit, i.e brackets for HDD and screws and the GPU heatsinks, and or SLI cable?

Im planning to install all this myself including 2 x 680M's and would need a SLi cable that would fit as it seems the one i have would be really short :(

That is a question to ask the vendor from which you are going to make your purchase...only they would know the answer.

Sager won't ship a unit without CPU or GPU. They can typically remove HDD and RAM but subject to their discretion. You'd have to contact the reseller/builder as to what discounts they can offer with doing so. All the other necessary hardware will be included for your installation of parts.

When I purchased my laptop from Mythlogic they were willing to use parts I sent them. In my case it was just an SSD and RAM I already had but they may work with you to do more.

So I am either going for the Clevo w230ST or Clevo w350ST.

I really cant make up my mind. I will use it to develop indie games and to play LoL, Dota 2 and such, not super AAA games.

I move around a lot, home, work, lan party, etc. My computer usually goes for about 8 to 10 hours of continued use every day. Of those usually 2-3 hours are gaming. I am ok with medium settings, dont care about high or ultra. I need it to look professional because of meetings.

It needs to be able to take a beating because I move around alot, which one has better build quality?

w230 has better screen, keyboard and portability but lacks an optical drive and I really suspect it will melt.

w350 has optical drive, numpad, is a bit cheaper, no backlight, has bigger screen which might be comfortable for reading code all day, but still has only 1 fan. Does it run cooler? If so this might be a deal.

Basically I would like to know which laptop has a longer life expectancy. I need it to last at least 3 years, 4 if possible and 5 would be great.

Which laptop would you get? Does the better potential temps + numpad + 15inch + optical drive outweight the nice IPS 13inchs + backlight + portability ?

Is Mythlogic fair offering the i5 CPU instead of the typical i7? Does it give better temps?

The model you get wont really make a difference in longevity even brands really dont. When a computer fails its because of a certain part like hard drive or CPU. When you get different models you really can get the same parts in there. For example if you select the primary drive lest say Samsung 840 Pro on both models, you have the same chance of failure on both, this holds true to all parts.
If you want the portability go with the 13.3" it also has a backlit keyboard. But if this is going to be your main computer a 13.3" screen could be too small. You could always hook up an external or get the bigger W350ST (NP7352)

I'm considering buying an AW system with ssd and 16gb ram, I'm also considering some customizations of the system.
I was wondering if any of the resellers could answer the following questions:

    1) What kind of RAM modules are installed by AW by default in the new Alienware 18s?
    I know it's 204-Pin DDR3 1600MHz SO-DIMM SDRAM.

But what RAM brand is used specifically? Are these Dell-branded modules, Kingston, Crucial or something else?
    What is the latency CL10? CL9? Voltage 1.5? 1.35?
I'm curious about this as I might wanna either replace or expand the default RAM after I purchase the system.

    2) Similar questions about SSDs:
What ssd brand / model in installed if I select an AW system with ssd?

I have asked both of these questions via Alienware chat several times and
answers were very very vague, they said ram brand depended on demand and they could not check what is installed now.
As for ssds, one rep mentioned Samsung 830 and another Samsung 840 pro, none of them seemed to be sure of what they were saying :S

    thanks,
    Chris

These are Sager forums and probably not the best avenue for help. Feel free to contact us directly though and we'd be glad to help out further. Otherwise the AW forums would probably be a better place to raise your questions.

I typically go with if it's too good to believe, probably is. I haven't heard anything about them specifically, but Sager does have pricing structures in place that those go against it seems.

It will depend on where you buy it from. Sager and their resellers will not void your warranty by doing so. Just be careful as any damaged caused while installing it is not covered.

Hey so I have a request for the Compal system builders, apologies for posting here but there isn't a similar thread in the Compal forum...

Could anyone get me a PBL20/PBL21 FULL HD screen cable?? I'm having trouble finding it for sale in the US. I think it's the same cable for the NBLB3/NBLB5 so that might be helpful too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

First thing to try is to get in touch with your reseller purchased from. If they fall through, go ahead and shoot our service team an email and see if they're able to get anything for you. I know they're still coming every once and a while for repair so if it's possible to get parts they should have an idea on how to do it.

Well I have no idea where the guy on Ebay that I bought it from got them, or if he even knows what a full HD cable is but I asked him about it. Its totally unbranded and it doesn't have a COA or anything but it works fine just has the wrong cable.

Ok I'll do that, I thought it might be a better bet to PM someone from AVAdirect here on the forums but I'll try all my options.

Why is there a difference between the product and SKU? Bought this from Reflexnotebook.
    View attachment 104208

That would be a question for Reflex directly, they aren't on the forums much from what I notice but if you send them a PM or contact them directly you're likely to get a lot faster of an answer. Likely just a website error and reflecting the wrong SKU.

From their website, it looks like the standard drive is a 750GB 7200rpm drive. The 1TB 5400 is a straight swap, but the 1TB 7200 is $20 extra. Which matches what it shows in your picture. So it looks like the 5400 was a typo, and it should be 7200. But verify with Reflex.

    Hey,
I bought a 6990m from sager but it died some months ago. I'm trying to contact sager to get it repaired but i can't reach them.

Can I get it repaired from any of its resellers even if i didn't buy the laptop from them?

Also, can anyone tell me how the repair is done? Do they repair it properly or do they just use the "baking method" (what some people on here suggested i should do). I want to know this because if i do get it repaired and it dies again, it would be very hard for me to get a replacement again because i don't live in the US.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but please help me if you can, thanks.

All resellers ultimately have repairs done at Sager for that as it's a Sager part they warranty, a reseller won't be able to help if you didn't purchase it through them though as they weren't involved in the purchase. It was between you and Sager directly. How are you attempting to reach sager? Their email is [email protected] and all you typically need to do is give them your order information for that purchase and the issues you're experiencing. Give them 24-48 hours to respond though as setting up an RMA can take time. You can always call as well if you're able to make an international call.

    Thanks for the reply Derek.

Can you please tell me how long the repair process usually takes? Can you please also answer the question in my previous post about the repair process because like i said, it would be very hard for me to get it replaced again if it dies again after a few months.

Also, if it isn't asking too much, can you please tell me if getting a new 7970m be a good option for me? The seller on ebay says that "I must upgrade to bios 14 and ec 12" before i can use the 7970m but I can't do that because I have no way of turning the laptop on until I get a new gpu.

    Thanks a lot!

Sager won't repair a GPU typically, just replacement. Sager will be best to advise you on the best route to go since it's their repair process, timeline, and policies. Your best off contacting them directly as you've been trying to do. If you bought the GPU from them, I believe they only warranty replacement parts for a year. So if you're outside of that they're going to likely tell you that you're out of luck. There are blindflashing guides here on the forums if needed, but the support resellers on the forums are going to be able to provide is limited. It's best to find somebody who has gone through this before on your system and follow the steps they did to get it to work

Are the website customization the limit to what you can have? I'm looking for a laptop without harddrive/OS and some other options like no ram. Does XoticPC do those options? So far the only one I know that has some sort of customization is Mythlogic.

Sager computers dont have an OS by default. We can remove the RAM and HDD per special request. PM me and we can talk about how, and the discount amounts (not allowed to talk about that on the forum)

Nothing official, but with MSI releasing their 3k models the time should be coming close. Everyone always says maybe next generation, only time will tell until officially announced.

I have a quick couple of questions for any XoticPC representative,

This may be silly but - I was recently browsing your website and I did a "Click to Customize" just to get a price figure after some specifications and I noticed that there is no operating system included.

Does this mean that it is an non-formated hard drive and I won't be able to do anything with the computer until I install an OS on it? Also, if I pay the extra $90 (or so) for an included OS, would I receive an operating system disc/recovery disc, or will it just be formatted and I will get a serial number? How can I go about reformatting Windows or restoring "factory defaults" should something go wrong with the unit?

    Thank you!

Sager computers do not have an OS by default. This is nice if you have your own copy already ready to install once you get the computer. That way you're not forced to pay for something you already have. Other brands that already include, also have it worked into the starting price so you're still paying for it.

If you dont get it you wont be able to run anything until you install your own. If you add it on the configuration page it will be installed and you will also get the discs. You would use those provided discs to reformat Windows later.
