Whether someone confirms or decries it is probably going to be subjective. The fan can be disassembled, but it isn't necessary.

There are alternatives to the cans, although I don't know how feasible/available they are to you. Small, not-so-heavy-duty air compressors are fairly affordable. Some users even use the air pump for tires at the gas station.

Hello i'm looking to buy a W230ss but many sites do not specify whether the default 1080p screen is IPS or not (not interested in the QHD model). Eurocom and Mythologic seem to specify that it is but Prostar, Xotic, Sager and Powernotebooks do not. This would be a major factor in choosing this laptop.

    Welcome!

All of the panel options in the W230 are IPS panels! The standard FHD is this model is the Chi Mei N133HSE-EA1. For reference, these are the full panel options:

    (13.3") Full-HD (1920*1080) Non-Glare IPS-Panel (Chi Mei N133HSE-EA1)
    (13.3") WQHD (2560*1440) Non-Glare IPS-Panel (Sharp LQ133T1JW02)
    (13.3") QHD+ (3200*1800) Glare IPS-Panel (Samsung LTN133YL01-L01)

Ours is correctly stated as "13.3" Full HD (1920x1080) IPS Matte LED-Backlit Display"

Since Sager does not list it as an IPS:

"13.3" Full HD LED-Backlit Display with Wide Viewing Angle in Matte Finished Surface (1920 x 1080)"

    We do not either.

As other has mentioned Sager has been using IPS screens lately.

They are the same in hardware options, the only difference is the chassis design.

When do you folks think next gen Intel CPU (Skylake and Broadwell) laptops will start shipping? I wanted to get a laptop in the next few months.

Anybody that knows will be under NDA to not disclose that information due to Intel embargos from doing so. So no definitive information as of yet but we might be seeing more information released in the coming couple weeks or so.

Broadwell ought to be before summer and SkyLake after it if they suddenly won't delay to help Broadwell sell. I wonder what to do now - wait for next gen, or buy current or wait when current will go on sale to make room for next?

It would be cool to have more variants below 15.4" not nececarily primary gaming. I want something strong for development, but maybe not nececarily with big GPU and heavy. I'm somewhere between models like: W230SS for size, baclight keyboard, and optionally 4K screen... i7-4750HQ 14" "hyperbook" for Intel only and no nVidia (handy on Linux) but some say/show poor keyboard. And maybe W551SU2 for good looking keyboard (and PgUp/Down Home/End under arrow keys with FN), and putting omg-big batter with low power ultrabook CPU in a 15.4" for omg battery life :)

Maybe Braswell (Broadwell success to BayTrail) would be perfect if they won't limit it (or SkyLake which as gen+2 should be noticably less power hungry). I need 4 good cores (or more if Intel has surlplus :p) that like running for example Virtualbox, 16 GB RAM, average Intel GPU or better, relatively quiet. I had W110ER, but was slightly to small for typing, was very quiet under Linux, but also it liked to get "warm" which was annoying when used mobile.

I wonder why there isn't any Intel octa-core Avaton based laptop (while there is 5kg one with Xeon)? :D

At this time there are none that Sager offer. They may become available in the future but there is no word or ETA of that happening, but they have had them in the passed with the 880M.

based on experience thus far, the 120hz clevo/sager model always came out with a little delay after the new generation of gpus went public.

Its not something out of the question. They had it on the P377SM-A (NP9377) for quite a while. The option was just removed on Sept 23rd so pretty recent. There is no reason why it happened though, it could be the same reason as the other upgrade screen options on other models like the 95% gamut screens were removed.

We are seeing some of the other brands we carry move from LVDS connection to a eDP which could explain it.

    Hello Resellers,

Any chance some US resellers can ship with adequate delays ( less than 2-3 weeks) a Clevo/Sager with Azerty keyboard?

    Thanks a bunch,

Will Xotic PC be running any additional black Friday / Cyber Monday sales or the black November promotion pretty much it? I'm looking at purchasing a Sager NP9828 but want to make sure I can get the best deal possible on the config.

any insight would be appreciated.. thanks!

You'll find most of us ship internationally.

Maybe... Maybe not... can't share any future promotions publicly or if/when they'll be available. We can only guarantee what's currently active. There may be more coming but we can't necessarily tell you that they'll be better/worse than what's going on right now or if they're still going to be available. Thought process to take would be, does the current promotion get you what you want at the price you want? Or would you rather wait and risk having promotions change and possibly be not as good a deal for you.

Just a competition thing. We can't say yes we're going to offer x as well as y and probably even z. If we do, then we either get copied or outdone because competitors have the advantage to know what we're doing when we don't have the same advantage. It's a game in of itself.

Are any of you aware of a 120Hz 3D screen that could be retrofit onto a model with a 980M?

Hi, Eurocom here. We're a Clevo builder located in Canada with a shipping depot in the US. Many of our units still have the Azerty keyboard option available due to our close and direct relationship with Clevo. Any laptop that lists a French keyboard option on our website will be Azerty.

Win 8 vs 7 is really just going to be up to your personal preference. I personally love Win 8 and use it daily on my work laptop. I do still have Win 7 on my desktop at home but is purely because I'm too lazy to reinstall everything on it.

You can go either way. Windows 8(.1) is a more optimized OS, though many still opt for Windows 7 out of familiarity and preference in UI. Compatibility is no issue either way. :)

Okay so if I buy a laptop you guys do benchmarks 72hr testing and whatever else that is done to test to the standards before it is shipped so I would assume that you install windows on it, now if the person doesn't pay for an OS to be installed then you format the drive and then send the laptop out? Do you ever do all this but not activate or register the windows so that when I get the laptop I can activate/register it myself so then I wouldn't have to pay for the OS? Just thought this might be worth asking for myself as I think this would work best for me if this is no problem ? Thanks guys for all your help and time!

I think what you asked is if we would send out a copy of Windows installed but with no key attached, as in a trial version install. I can't speak for others but we do not do so and the reason being, as far as I have understood, is it's due licensing restrictions from Microsoft not allowing that to be done. We can take your key and install it ourselves, additional service fee applies, but allows you to not have to pay for a full copy.

    Hi guys,

I have a quick question : what costs are added to the price of the laptop for shipping to Romania?

I'm interested in the final price that I have to pay (VAT + shipping + other expenses, if any) so that when I place an order, I just have to wait for a call from the courier, sign, and get my product.

    Thanks!

We (as in Prostar) install Windows whether you purchase it from us or not, but if you are not buying the OS from us, then we only install it for testing purposes. Once testing is complete, we format the drive and you receive the laptop with absolutely no OS (essentially what Derek said they do). When you do purchase Windows from us, we install it + the drivers, but we do not activate it. We do this because of the money back guarantee/period; we can't resell the OS once someone has activated it, and therefore can't refund it once so.

Glad to help in any way we can!

With us, you will need to contact a sales rep personally so that we can get that estimate for you. All we should need is a shipping address, then we can look up the rates and give you a quote. :)

@ Prostar Computer : Thanks for the reply, I'll do that.

Can someone please tell me if there is something along the lines of the Eurocom Panther 5 but with a bit lower config? It's triple-over-kill for what I'm gonna use it (gaming).

Sleek, curvy, slim laptops don't cut it for me. The bigger, bulkier, heavier they are, the better.

Previous laptop was a dual-9800MGTX Dell XPS M1730 @ 5.3KGs and I was happy with it.

why not buy from Romania or any other EU country like UK which will cover shipping warranty.
buying from America is great when you look at the price but on top of the final price you have to add import VAT duty whatever it is in your country and then if it ever needed a repair you would have to pay the shipping cost and insurance to return it to America for service.

full list of clevo suppliers in EU http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-resellers-in-the-european-union-v1.652403/

scroll down to where the country flags are as the top links dont work since the forum update.

@ MrDJ : Thanks for that, I didn't take into account the import tax which is 24% in my case. So yeah, I think I'm gonna settle for a P771ZM.

Okay I have a few more questions for the vendors out there, I have read on some forums that nvidia has blocked the vbio's on some of the 900m chips from being able to be OC'd are the 980m's you supply able to be reflashed and OC'd? If I am going to buy from you can I send you a USB drive with my windows 8.1 on it for you to install instead of me having to buy the OS again? Thanks

One question for resellers. Have you got any info from Clevo whether they are releasing new 18 inch model or they gave up with 18 inch laptops completely?

    Regards

No clear indication that they're going to do so. The 18" customer segment was never too popular and pretty niche so it wouldn't be overly surprising for them not to do so.

You're welcome to do what you like with the GPU received but you are correct that the stock vBIOS and drivers currently prevent you from OC'ing. Keep in mind when reflashing anything on the system you do so at your own risk.

Sending a USB drive won't be necessary but if you supply a product key we can install using that. Requires a little service fee and shipment to our XPC facility from Sager to do so as well.
