At least the Kepler/Maxwell launch had different numbers (860M being an exception). Calling all of these 980s and then having them all be different is crazy. Even the ASUS GX700 with its fancy water cooling has been confirmed to use regular low voltage 5Gbps GDDR5, not the faster 7Gbps in the P870DM.

Yeah, 860m is what I had in mind. Before models launched, they were supposed to be one thing, then changed after it launched. Then throw in 2gb / 4gb versions and that caused even more questions. At least in this event there is only a few models to deal with, instead of the metric ton of 860m models. I'm glad to see some of this info being available before models start shipping.

The whole thing with the 860M really was a big mess. The only way to be sure that what you were getting was a Kepler card and not the Maxwell you wanted was if it was MXM since nVidia forbade OEMs from making any MXM Maxwell card until the 900 series.

It can only support 1x GTX 980, apart from the power draw and temperature there isn't physically enough room:

is that due to the extra large cooler or is the card larger then the standard (gtx 980m) mxm card?

The pcb itself is larger than standard (for example 980M) and as such the heatsink plate you can see on top is also larger. But also the exhaust part of the heatsink is bigger due to the additional heat that needs to be dissipated. So there's the overlap in the MXM slots on one side and the bigger exhaust heatsink assembly on the other side that require additional space. Remember in the GT80 for example, SLI GTX 980 is only possible because they are using 2x 120W cards - not the 200W version that's in the P870DM.

No problem at all. Without boasting, I think a lot of other sales and customer service personel will not have used the chassis yet and so they wouldn't have necessarily been in a position to answer the question in full.

Not at the moment, there simply isn't the demand for a product like this that would result in a cost effective model to be manufactured.

    Question to all Resellers -

If I buy a system from a "big box" place such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc. when I power it up I am expecting the system to update the OS and probably require certain driver and maybe BIOS updates.

However, when I buy a system from a "custom" reseller, I am expecting it to have all the current stuff (at least current on the date it was "custom built").

    So, the question:

Do you update the system, drivers, BIOS, etc. before you burn-in/test the systems that you "customize"?

When was the x7200 or p570wm (or any enthusiast laptop for that matter) cost effective to manufacture?

For us, typically we will do drivers and manufacturers utilities normally. If we run in to systems issues while testing then possibly BIOS will get updated by us, but not always the norm on that one. We will do it by request if you would like though.

If they weren't cost effective to manufacturer then they wouldn't be produced, because no one would be able to make a profit selling them (including Clevo). The P870DM is the spiritual successor to the P570WM - desktop CPU, SLI graphics or single 200W GTX 980.

Hi, as you've told me a couple of weeks ago that Clevo P775dm will be put on market together with P870dm before Christmas, but P870dm will just be on sell in early November while P775dm is still like a mystery. I really hope I can purchase this laptop, so I wonder if you can give more information about Clevo P775DM, good or bad. Thank you alot! LOL

This would be the boutique aspect i think. If you would like it all updated and ready to rock, that's something we would be able to do.

There are a lot of people in a rush to get their computer so we don't typically do windows updates, as they can take awhile. However, if there was a request from the customer comments section they would accommodate it :)

Thanks for the responses Pat & Alex (@XOTICPC) -

Yes, that is what I was thinking/understanding.

I like the idea that the system has been taken out of the box and updated and, even more importantly, tested before it is shipped.

I'm also partial to a properly applied high quality TIM, such as IC Diamond. Whether it makes an initial difference to temperatures or not, it should provide a longer term capability.

Yeah, IC Diamond usually drops temps like 4 to 7 degrees C compared to most stock thermal compound.

    Do 16GB, dual/quad channel, non-ECC, ddr4, 2133Mhz, SODIMM, 260 pin ram exist?

If not what is being used in the clevo p870dm-g 64GB option?

I believe Samsung is making 16gb sticks, but I haven't seen really any that's available to purchase right now. Pretty much looks like 8gb sticks that is available in most places.

Probably considered a successor just because of the newer desktop processor in those models. I don't think I have seen anything on an x99 model.

Bit cheaper but not hugely compared to the P870DM with same GPU config. Availability is a bit of a way off based on status of our sample chassis. May hit just before Christmas but no solid ETA yet.

    P.S. 775DM1 supports GTX 980, P775DM supports 970M and 980M for your reference ;-)

THX,so it will be way costlier than P770DM eventually with same GPU config?
And what's the difference other than config between 775dm1 and 775dm, only the appearance of cool system? will it be the difference for cooling capbility? :D

Well, the P775DM is designed to run with a more powerful GPU, so it will be more expensive but not way costlier I wouldn't say.

Anyone selling a non desktop class cpu clevo with tb3? The mythlogic Dia 1715S is perfect but I would really like 3.1c

I just got an Alienware 17r3 I am strongly considering returning. I was drawn to on-site repair and great battery life. But I really am missing the extra 2.5" bay and g-sync. The 4k display is a little annoying too. If I could get something with decent battery life, 3.1c, g-sync, 2x 2.5" with a 6820hk & 980m I'd really take a hard look.

Any of the Clevo models right now with tb3 are going to have a desktop processor. None, as far as I can think of, with a mobile processor will have it. Otherwise, you might have to look at something like an MSI at this point in time.

Clevo just refreshed their models with skylake processors over the last month or so. I don't know if there will be anything you are quite looking for coming up any time soon.
