Are there any definite plans to offer a 120hz panel for the p170 in the future? If so, any knowledge of an eta? Hoping to get a 680m with 120 panel end of summer. Tks!

I read another thread about some 3D screen, is that the same thing you are referring to? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I am a bit behind on the upcoming cool stuff on the Sager / Clevo laptops...

While there are no guarantees yet there is a very high probability that you will be able to get the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M 256bit w/4GB GDDR5 with the 120Hz 3D panel by the end of Summer.

Search function doesn't work on any device for me - always returns "cannot find 'invalid search query'" or something like that.

anyway, i was just wondering what to expect for build time on the 9170. i upgraded the screen, gpu and wireless card. i'm not looking for anything exact, just an average, i assume it's about the same between resellers.

We can usually ship the Sager NP9170 within about 7 business days of receipt of your good funds, but if you need expedited production, please let us know and we will attempt to accommodate your needs.

Hey guys! I am new to posting, but have been lurking for a while. I am looking to get a NP9170 / Clevo P170EM with the 7970m this week and was wondering if I could get any first-hand advice on who to go with? I have been looking at Xotic, Malibal, Sager, and PowerNotebooks. Resellers, any promotions on these right now, and why should I choose you? Thanks in advance!

Xotic is usually the simplest one to deal with, and very friendly. Malibal had their reputation trashed a few months ago and haven't done a very good job of salvaging it, they're not on these forums anymore. Sager is a no-go because most resellers go through them anyway, but they have worse customer support and no discounts. PNB has been really helpful here over the past month or two. Don't forget to look at LPC-digital and Mythlogic. All my opinion, of course.

OK, a while ago in may some resellers made it very clear when I and others asked if the Fn+1 fan turbo was still here that the P150EM did not have it. Mine does not. However, when it was brought up in the P150EM owner's lounge, several people said that they definitely had it. What gives? And I know it's Fn+1 and not Fn+f1.

Just a curiosity question, but if I ordered a laptop without OS pre-installed, how do the resellers quality control the laptop before shipping it out to make sure nothing is faulty on the laptop? Do they run tests to make sure everything is installed properly and being detected? I already placed my order so hopefully I didn't put myself under more risk by omitting an OS on my laptop. Thanks!

    Hope I didn't miss it,

but are there any news regarding the Clevo x7200's compatibility with the GTX 680M? Would it even be able to properly cool it? When apprx. is it going to be available in Europe? :)

    Thx in advance

The OS is installed, then all testing and burn in is done, then the partition is deleted which removes the OS.

    I have a couple questions:
    1. Is it worth it to buy a better processor, performance-wise?
    2. Does the Killer WirelessN card cover a/b/g/n?

You're best off sticking with the 3610QM CPU then. And avoid the Bigfoot Killer networks card, as it will provide negligible real-life gains.

In the Clevo guide thread, the products section said that new models are coming soon. Is this a good time to buy a new laptop or will it be worth it to wait a little while then?

The latest models were released in Feb and we probably wont seen any new ones until the next gen CPU''s which wont be out until next year. Now is a great time to buy. There are no new GPU's or anything coming out soon.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for an order to ship from RJTech? I placed mine last weekend, and it still shows "Processed" just as it did the moment I placed it. My card has already been charged, so I'm just trying to get some sort of feedback here. Not that I'm anxious to receive my W110ER or anything...lol

It would be better to just ask RJTech. No one here would not what their stock condition is, or how quickly they could ship your order.

Whether upgrading your WiFi card makes sense depends on for what purpose you are going to use your WiFi.

Most people have Internet download speeds of 100Mb/s or less, and the standard WiFi card is 150Mb/s, so if you are only going to use it for Internet access, and you don't need both the 2.4GHz band and the 5GHz band, then there is no reason to upgrade. The 5GHz band will provide less interference from things like cell phones and microwave ovens, but it will also provide less range.

If you are going to use your WiFi to transfer data on a regular basis between computers on your local WiFi network at home or office, then upgrading to a 300Mb/s or 450Mb/s WiFi card would make sense...or, if you want Dual Band (both 2.4GHz and 5GHz) then upgrading would also make sense.

Does the skinning process usually take all 13 business days? If it does, not a big deal - but when could I expect an update on my order (13th business day was yesterday). I was planning on calling today, but am otherwise indisposed until later this afternoon.

Hey all, first time joining the forum. Been lurking for a bit once I discovered the the p150em.

So my question (well I have tons, but im sure most are answered as I read more) is related to shipping locations. From what I can tell from the reseller sites is people are pretty paranoid about credit card fraud and what not, which is to be expected for stuff like this.

So I am on the road 4 days a week, hence the need for a portable gamer. I am wondering if any of the resellers can work with me on shipping location as I am hoping I can have them contact me when the system is done, and depending on where I will be have them send it to that hotel and ill pay for the shipping to get it there on time. I know one of the guys I talked to said they needed to have the billing/shipping address match, which while I understand, it kinda means I cant go that route.

Edit: Or I guess depending on build time, if anyone is Vegas based (I believe I recall at least two resellers in vegas) if it is ready by end of the month, if I could pick it up there also please chime in.

No problem, we can ship to your hotel.

We can only ship to an address that can be verified with your credit card company. This is necessary to protect you from unauthorized use of your credit card. Please contact your credit card bank and explain to them that you are making an online purchase and want the merchandise shipped to a different address than where your statement is mailed. Ask them to put a memo in your account authorizing your shipping address.

Please call us toll-free at 877-711-1777, once you have been able to accomplish this, or you can also let us know by e-mail.

The problem with picking it up is that you would have to pay Nevada sales tax, but as long as we ship outside of Nevada we don't collect any sales tax for other states.

You could also pay with a bank wire or a money transfer of some sort.

Talk to the resellers concerning your situation and see if they can accomodate. Perhaps also check with your credit card company to ensure the approval goes smoothly on their side too.

Local pickup would mean paying the local NV sales tax. But on the other hand you'd save the overnight shipping so it might be worth it.

So thats where the tricky part comes in. I am someplace new every week, so I could authorize Hotel A which is where I am at when you charge to start the build, but by the time it ships out I will be at hotel C. I assume all resellers take payment in full prior to starting the build.

DarkShado makes a valid point though. While id prefer not to add tot he delay of starting by having to send in a money order or cashiers check or anything, I would think that would negate the need to have a verified address. At that point it would be "Ok computers done, where should it go" to which I can provide an address and pay for applicable shipping at that point.

Is this my best option for my situation?

    Thanks

You only need to authorize the ship to address on your credit card once it is ready to ship and you know where you will be.

If you pay with a method that will earn the 3% cash discount then all you have to do is let us know where you want it to ship once it is ready.

I was wondering if all other options are equal between either the w150er/p150em or the w170er/p170em is it the gpu that is making the price difference, or are there more differences? And is the p151em limited on the gpu option just for the power supply provided?
I am on a budget and so looking for the best option to last 3 years and play gw 2 and d3 while be mobile for school.
    Thanks

There are major difference between these system:

    Motherboard Chipset:
NP9150/P150EM and NP9170/P170EM HM77 Adds Intel Smart Response AKA SSD Caching, Integrated USB 3.0, and various security features.
    NP6165/W150ER and NP6175/W170ER HM76

    Memory
    NP9150/P150EM and NP9170/P170EM Up to 32GB DDR3 1600MHz (4X8GB DIMMS)
    NP6165/W150ER and NP6175/W170ER Up to 16GB DDR3 1600MHz (2X8GB DIMMS)

    HDD Drive Bays:
    NP9170/P170EM 1X mSATA + 2X 2.5"
    NP9150/P150EM 1X mSATA + 1X 2.5"
    NP6175/W170ER 2X 2.5"
    NP6165/W150ER 2X 2.5"

    VGA Support
    NP9150/P150EM and NP9170/P170EM Up to 100W Discrete video card (MXM3.0 Type B PCIe x16)
NP6165/W150ER and NP6175/W170ER 45W Integrated Chip This means the nVIDIA chip is part of the motherboard

    Power
    NP9150/P150EM and NP9170/P170EM 8 Cell Lithium-Ion (76.96Wh[Watt Hours]) 220W AC
    NP6165/W150ER and NP6175/W170ER 6 Cell Lithium-Ion (62.16Wh) 120W AC

Aside from Chassis differences and I/O ports, the NP9150/P150EM and NP9170/P170EM can be equipped with a Backlit keyboard whereas theNP6165/W150ER and NP6175/W170ER cannot.

For Diablo III and Guild Wars 2, the GT 650 should be fine, however you may want to consider an upgrade to the NP9130/P151EM1 for the GTX 670M.

The PCI-E interface on the P151EM1/NP9130 is limited to 75W GPUs. This is why you cannot upgrade beyond it.

802.11a is a legacy hardware. I'm curious as to why you would need this standard. Is your WiFi Access Point/Router 802.11a only? You may want to upgrade as 802.11a is only 54Mbits.

Do you want the 5.4GHz Band? If so, 802.11n is capable of 5.4 GHz.

If you must have 802.11a, you'll need to upgrade your WiFi card to the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235

The intel website says the stock wireless card is only capable of 2.4Ghz. Because 802.11n works in both 2.4 and 5, the stock wireless card is still technically 802.11n capable.

You will be much happier using 'g' than 'a'. You can just stick with the standard WiFi card.

We have normally 4 guys who answer sales emails etc. We have other people who also build things and handle B2B sales/support etc.

The reason for this is your stock Wifi card is Single Band. Therefore it can only broadcast at 2.4GHz. You'll want to upgrade to a Dual Band WiFi NIC in order to use the 5GHz range.

As Paladin44 said, stick to 802.11 b/g/n. Operating on 5GHz dramatically deceases your range. The only reason you would want to use 5GHz is because no one else is on that frequency and you'll get less interference.
