Sorry theres not a way to just replace the single key or the retaining clip. Contact your reseller and they can probably get you a whole new keyboard.

It is odd, but i guess someone in the accounting department did the old Fight club math
take the number of models out there, x, multiply it by the likelihood of failure, y, and you get x. If x is less than the price of the recall, they don't do one.

I don't mind the stock keyboard on th enp9170, but i guess ill just have to get an external.

Yeah I just got a quote for $85. I think i'll just replace the alt hinge with the hinge for the play/pause button which i never use and the shift key will have to manage. thank you.

I would suggest contacting the reseller you originally purchased the computer from, they may be able to get you one.

I own an NP6350 and I was reading about windows 7 and parked CPUs so I checked my i7 and half of the cores were parked. I downloaded Bitsum parked CPU utility which gives you the option to unpark the cores (by setting a percent bar) by adding the option to windows advanced power settings. It allows you to change it on the fly (without reboot) and have different settings for being "plugged in" and on "battery". I left the battery settings alone so my power consumption shouldnt go up. It also changes the settings in only one power plan, so if you switch plans it will return to default.

Anyways by doing this will it have a negative effect on my computer? Will it produce unwanted excess heat or wear? I understand that windows parks or shuts them down for power consumption but it seems to do it aggressively. I like the idea of having the option to benefit from 100% of my quad core.

Could one of the resellers PM me with the cost of a replacement matte screen for my np9170. I have two 'stuck' pixels, an dim thinking of returning since i am in my 30 day money back window. Depending on price of screen, i may just live with it.

I live in in the US (for shipping)

    Thanks!

Our service guys didn't have a current pricing offhand. If it's Sager branded, the best place to get the cost would be to email [email protected] and they'd shoot you the price back. If it's from a builder, try giving them a call and they'll help you out.

Will do. I wouldn't mind just an estimate - ie about $100, etc. I am hoping they should be fairly cheap.

How hard is it to install/replace a screen? on a scale of 1-10, 1 being super noob and 10 being...well one of you guys :)

I would rate it around a 6, but I'm not one of the guys in the backroom doing it every day so my skillset in that isn't used to do these type of upgrades, so that question may be better answered by a person who has actually done the upgrade personally.

As for the cost, I'm not entirely sure I can discuss pricing even for something like this, so I'd recommend getting the exact cost from Sager, but I wouldn't be surprised if your guess was more or less accurate.

I love this forum. Ive been recommending everyone check out the video reviews Xotic has, hopefully gets more business your way. I'll look for guides online.

I'm still debating whether to return it. The pixel is only noticeable because I use a black background on my desktop. Can't see it when playing games or movies, but "I" know it's there. It's the only flaw I have found on this machine.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I found a dead pixel on a buddy's brand new TV and he is still mad at me for pointing it out, sees it every time the TV turns on. If it's just one, I'd say don't bother with it. You'll eventually learn to ignore. It's not the best situation to have to "deal" with it, but you have to consider if it's worth the downtime if you were to return it or worth the trouble of learning to do the install and perform it yourself.

There are a few wholesale distributors that your could contact to get a price. LCDs 4 Less and Screentekinc both supply your screen, but they don't display the price. They both carry 1920 x 1200 screens but for other Sager models. They could be compatible with yours, but your going to have to call them and ask. Looking at other screen prices for similar laptops it would run you anywhere between $80-$160 (depending on the type and resolution). I believe one of the two offers refurbished screens at a lower price too. Looking at LCDs 4 Less I noticed that there is a possible solution to dead or stuck pixels on the "Do I need a laptop screen" page.

Have you contacted the reseller you bought the computer from? I have read of some that take care of dead pixels despite not having the extra coverage. I am not saying that they will for sure, but it wouldn't hurt to bring it to their attention, especially seeing you are within the 30 days. So you have a few options...

What the Solutions part is referring to are more commonly called "Stuck Pixels" Those are definitely fixable by the methods listed and also why they are called differently than dead pixels. Dead pixels are just dead, there is no amount of manipulation (as far as I've read and experienced) that will get those to start working when they are displaying dark rather than the stuck RGB colors. It sounds like he's experiencing the dead variety.

Yeah man I agree. I just threw that in there as a long shot. I have actually never seen or experienced a dead pixel in any of my electronics. God knows I have paid for the extra coverage at least few times for my LCD/LED TVs, and my last computer too. I usually do the research before I buy an LCD too see which brands are serviced or defective the most. Sometimes the results are shocking, but sometimes it has to do with the market share of that particular brand too. Before I bought the NP6350 I did check the computer service reports, but Sager/Clevo weren't even on the list. That can be seen as a good thing, but it is also probably due to the very small market share they represent. That and I'd say that most Sager/Clevo owners know a thing or two about technical problems and are able to solve a percent of their problems themselves. Also because they are custom built there are a lot of variables with different aftermarket components that vary from computer to computer. In this case the screen is one of those components.

I opted for the standard glossy in mine, and it looks and performs great. Which screens are the most likely to be effected by dead pixels? Or is it a crap shoot and totally random? In other words does the screen upgrade give you less of a likelyhood of failure in your experience? Also Derek, did you see my question a page back (pg. 36 last post) about unparking CPU cores in Windows 7? I used a program to change the settings and was curious if it has any negative consequences or will effect heat in my laptop. I haven't experienced any problems, and only set it to unpark all cores while plugged in and on high performance power setting (for gaming).

The screen upgrades are just as likely to experience dead pixels as the stock unfortunately.

As for unparking cores, I haven't attempted to do anything of the sort so I'm relying on information garnered from these lovely forums but the only negatives I've heard of is lower batter life and likely higher temps as a result of utilizing more of the CPU. I personally haven't come across a need to manually unpark them, some users report it solves microstuttering in older games and over all better system responsiveness, others claim that it's unnecessary to do so manually and the OS does it just fine itself.

Increased power consumption, worse battery life, maybe slightly higher temps at idle(full load it'll be the same because W7 unparks the cores under load so it's the same in that field). That's about it.

Thanks guys. I only switch to performance power profile for gaming, so I know that all cores are active. As for heat I made a framed wooden placemat that raises my NP6350 off the desk and promotes more air flow. This model only has 1 rear fan grill, but it has 2 on the very bottom. Without the pad both bottom grilles are almost useless.

With my custom pad the fan hasnt reached max while playing Shogun 2 on ultra. Before the fan ran on full during battles. I ran furmark to see the difference in temps and it is a big improvement. While raised the GPU runs around 63-64C max, and without it was 70-72C.

I bought my rig directly from sager, and 1 or 2 stuck/dead pixels isnt enough for them to replace it. I could return the rig (pay my own shipping), wait for the refund and just buy another one, but I am going to live with it. With the massaging and screen fix software, I barely notice it. Still annoying and something that should have been caught before shipping out (imho) but it's smaller than a . and only noticeable on a full black background after some hunting.

Question to the resellers for upgrades - Can I send my machine to you for repairs/upgrades at my own cost while under my sager warranty (again, at my own cost for everything)
Can I send my machine to you for repairs/upgrades after my warranty expires (again at my cost)
Can I order replacement/upgrade parts from you if i didnt purchase the machine from you?

With Resellers, all Sager units are built by Sager and that's where they go for all those upgrades, repairs, replacements, etc... So it's unlikely that a reseller would be able to take it into their own facility to do these things, but a builder may be able to do so if you are unwilling to have Sager do those services themselves. In any event, if you do opt for the Sager route, contact your reseller and they'll help in getting this set up with Sager for you.

I bought directly from Sager, not a reseller, hence why i am curious. I saw a post in another thread that resellers only work on the machines they have sold; I don't have any problems sending it directly to sager, but id prefer in the future to deal with a reseller instead (just seems easier to communicate with)

Hey guys I tried searching but couldn't find a specific answer and was hoping someone could advise myself. I am looking at picking up a Sager NP9370 with the AMD 7970M since from my understanding that chassis doesn't support Enduro. One concern I have seen is that using larger displays might require a card with more VRAM, is this correct? I am looking to connect it to a desktop monitor when at home and am worried about large frame-rate drops. The monitor is a 24" 1080P display. Is the 7970M a solid choice for the NP9370, or should I consider the 680M? I'm aware of driver / AMD / ATI products and have no problem "Tweaking" CCC to get it working top notch to save 400 bucks.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Forums Kalabin,

Either of those cards are going to be able to run an external monitor no problem without frame rate drops. You are correct that multiple displays do require more Vram but either card will have sufficient amounts for your use.

Thank you for the fast response,

I am a little hesitant on the 7970M, are the issues with them directly related to Enduro and with the 9370 chassis it should work properly with correct GPU optimization, or is that an issue with the AMD driver in general? I'm really kicking it back and forth on upgrade to the 675MX / 680M for a "more reliable" setup if the 7970M is still having issues on the 9370.

    Thanks

The issues are indeed tied to Enduro, so a system that lacks the feature should provide no trouble from the recounts that I've read and heard. I'm definitely still a fan of the Nvidia cards for the future reliability as well, but if you're looking for price :: performance, the 7970 can't be beat and shouldn't cause too much hassle on this system.

    Hi,

A quick question to any retailers, do you sell the bottom panels of the NP9150/70 separately. I would like to do some cooling modifications but I would like to have a 2nd panel just in case.

    Cheers,
    Shox

System builders should have them but for resellers you'd be best off contacting Sager directly as they're the ones who build all machines. If you didn't want to contact them directly, just call up your reseller and ask them how they can help you in getting them and they should be able to contact Sager for you.

Occasionally, my system will temporarily freeze while in Chrome, with the mouse being unmovable, and after a few seconds the computer will unfreeze and will play a single beep through my headphones. Any idea why the freeze could be happening and what the beep means?

Are you running any extensions? I've been seeing a lot of issues with that myself. If you feel up to it, cycle through turning them all off, then one at a time enabling them to see if you can get it narrowed down.

I am running the Norton Identity Protection and YousableYouTubeFix extensions. I am willing to try disabling one at a time, but even if the problem goes away I would still be concerned. Doesn't a full freeze like this indicate a hardware problem, especially with the beep?

Beeps can mean a lot of things, can be hardware generated as well as software generated at times. If you aren't seeing any problems in anything but Chrome, it's likely a Chrome issue only.

What is an acceptable temp range for the GTX 660M? I have read conflicting reports about graphics cards in general, and different cards having different thresholds for overheating. My card runs between 58°-62°C, depending on the ambient temp of the room. These temps are measured with both Furmark and some modern games on high settings.

It is worth noting that I do elevate my laptop slightly off the desk surface with a custom built pad while gaming to promote airflow. Without it I was getting temps upward of 66°-68°C before, on Furmark. I dont feel like I am pushing it by any means, but I just want to be sure. Especially before it.starts to get warmer outside. Thanks in advance...

Your temps are WAY under anything you have to worry about. If you ever see them go into the 90's, then you can become slightly concerned, but as long as you keep the inside of your laptop and its fan and vents clean, you will never see that kind of temp when using a properly installed nVIDIA GTX 660M.

Thanks for that confirmation. I knew I wasnt pushing the threshold, but I wasnt sure how high it can safely go. It is still winter here in NE, and I dont crank my heat, so that definitely contributes to low temps.

I think what threw me off were threads about desktop GPU temps mixed in with mobile GPU temps. That and they may have been from a few years ago. I checked Nvidia's site for the 660M and it didnt list operating temps. Thanks again, I will still periodically keep and eye on all temps.

It's probably due to the background content on the site. I'm not 100% sure what they code off of but you can try uninstalling Java and Flash for chrome and then reinstalling it. Should take care of the problem.

    Question,

    clevo p150hm, amd 6990m, i7-2670QM,

It seems as though I'm going to have to replace my gpu, that's where all signs are pointing... bringing it in to get confirmed...My question is where can I find a replacement, and what can I replace the 6990m with? does it matter if it' nvidia or amd? (for compatability sake :) I can't really find much on ebay. It would be nice if someone had an amazon account cause then I could finance it that way. thanks for the help.

I have recently read about concerns coming from W370 owners that the secondary HDD bay runs pretty hot. So I downloaded HWMonitor to check out all temps of various hardware components under load (while gaming for a few hours). The CPU, and GPU both run at very reasonable temps, but my secondary HDD is a bit warm. Its the 750GB WD Black 7200 rpm, and it maxed out at 54°C. The WD site specs say operating temps go up to 60°C, but that seems pretty close. So should I be concerned, or is that a temp that I should expect in this laptop?

I read a research report from Google about their experience with HD failures, and temp actually doesnt effect it as much as we would expect. Actually neither does age, and it appears that it is totally random and can happen to any drive and at any time. With that being said I still like to keep an eye on my investment and the contents I have stored inside it. Also I really had no idea what temps are acceptable and what temps should cause concern. I just know that there is an emphasis on hardware temps among gaming/high end laptop owners on the forum.

Hard drive temps are the least of your concern when you're monitoring temps. People do talk about them alot here and its important on the GPU and CPU but hardly anything else. I've never heard of a hard drive failing or a computer having problems because the Hard drive ran too hot. 54C is a fine time, i'd not worry about it.

Cool, thanks. Truthfully I didn't know whether to be concerned or not, and I am not one to overact (and request an RMA for example) until I am properly educated. After reading the Google report of hard drive failures and their causes I did feel a bit more confident. I found a link to it in another forum thread dedicated to high hard drive temps in modern gaming laptops.

One thing I did notice is that other posters in the W370 Owners Forum complained about the actual laptop exterior being hot to the touch, and I have never experienced this. Actually no part of my laptop has ever been remotely hot except for maybe the rear exhaust vent. This model's exterior doesn't get any warmer than my last Sony Vaio FW290 laptop, and that wasn't very powerful by any means. Well as usual I appreciate the insight!

I cant think of one time I've heard of that a computer failed because the hard drive overheated. I guess its possible but so rare its not anything to be concerned about.

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy the Sager NP9150-S. I've recently moved to the USA (student) for several months/year and unsure how I get around my billing address being different from my shipping address.

All my bank accounts are registered in my home country and therefore would like to know from the Sager resellers if there is some way of resolving this?

    Thanks

You would be best to PM or contact the resellers individually to see what can be done. Many do have separate policies.

I recently downloaded the latest nvidia driver for my GTX 660M and ran the installer. It said that the driver installed (and I confirmed it in the Nvidia control panel) but the update portion failed. I have tried restarting and reinstalling a few times but it always gets to very end and the same result. The 660M seems to be running fine but I cant help but to think that this could cause issues down the line. I am positive that it is the correct driver, and OS (64 bit). What am I missing seeing the update portion failed?

Also is it ok to delete the old driver folder located in the Nvidia folder on the C: drive? That is just for the installer right?

It didnt work but the driver installed ok. It keeps saying that the update and physx update failed. It works fine and I am playing Fallout right now. So what negative consequences are there for this?

EDIT: I managed to download the Nvidia Psyhx Update separately, and install it without a problem. It also says I have the latest update, so I assume everything is ok.

you had the same problem i did.
the latest physx works for me but it crashes vantage benchmark half way through so i had to download a older physx and everything works hunky dorey now.

if you use vantage and it stops working at the crash and burn test then download this older version (9.12.0613) of physx NVIDIA DRIVERS 9.12.0613
