The thing that Alienware is really good at is you can buy one and flip it in a 3rd world country and gank people.

Other than that, the 17R4 that I owned has superb build quality.

Nice :) And don't forget the missing 4th legs on the Cpu heatsink by Mr. Azor's better tech skills when you draw up a new comic stripe. Saving on cost is the big mantra today for most OEM's. Functionality will come second :D And of course don't forget the fake extra big heatsink in the same AW models

I have more but they're old as balls. Like 2013 iirc and 2014, I didn't really draw back then nor know how lol.

It used to be based on whatever the hype was or annoying crap that I'd take to art with since ranting a wall sometimes would call for mods to clear out the rivers it'd make from tears of others.

like for instance when "THIN" was all people could complain about.

Left to right on this one. (First one I ever did ..)

If a 4th leg is added the whole system would have to be a dual core CPU due to the MB limitation (size limitation).

The problem with AW is that with thinner design they sacrifice so much mb space to make for the fans and whatnot, I'm pretty sure if they didn't care about thin the motherboard can be larger.

After the heatsink fix, and even without thermal pads, the 3rd arm isn't really affecting the heatsink pressure. But it does leave a lot to be desired...

Still, I'm sure they could design the motherboard differently so they could use the 4th leg around cpu.

And If they could skip the fake heatsink, maybe Dell's hardware engineers also could shrink the whole chassis, and not only make it thinner? And ask @Cass-Olé why Alienware use fake pictures to promote AW desktops cooling?
    IMG_0026.JPG
And have you seen the massive Battery wear for the new AWbook models? I understand why Dell and Azor opted for maxed battery size :p

They absolutely cannot put another arm on that motherboard without taking away the ability to run quad core.

Even with different design it is not possible to reconfigure the motherboard as such to include a 4th arm without making a sacrifice like the m.2 slot.

I'm sure of this, we've talked about this to a Dell engineer and had a limited look over the motherboard electrical design diagram.

Yeah, on "that" MB. Skip the whole MB and internals and re-design their ****y. I can't recognize AW anymore. Everything is changed... Absolutely everything!!
Now you have the "Tripod" brands... Aka AW, Razer and Aorus who is very "special" models who run after Apples design!! Tripod can be too much :D

The only reason I got the laptop in my sig was because it was the best deal I could find at that time, I was urgently in need of a replacement laptop since my previous was stolen. Pascal was not released at that time (June 2016) and I can't afford to wait so I bought it for £1399 which is a steal for a 980m laptop at that time.

I certainly wish I could afford a p870dm3 or a tornado f5 right now, but I figure that I'll start saving up for a desktop instead since I finally have a place to settle down by year end.

Perhaps I'll change my mind if there's a ryzen and vega socketed dtr laptop, anything as long it's not blue and green

No question, you can certainly buy cheap BGA books.

The only LGA laptop I would consider a replacement for my P650RS-G is the 16L13 with a 7700K and 1080, but right now the upgrade is not worth the cost.

Frankly it is the current generation displays I find lacking, not the CPU or GPU performance.

But then I care primarily about gaming performance which is not an issue with my current BGA book =P

Honestly I've found the 1440p 120hz panel to be excellent for gaming (even with my 1 dead pixel :( ) . My only gripe is I can't use it for what little ammature work I do with photography. But for gaming I'm non the wiser.
I would love to see a high refresh rate oled in the near future though.

The way it's going, these thin and light disposable machines will end up being the exact same hardware as mobile phones. Big phones with keyboards running Windows 1x* Won't that be fun.

We can at least hope at some point around then common sense will prevail and the 'Personal Computer' part of PC will be back in laptops, instead of this welded together Apple-esk kiddie console sh#t.

You mean running windows emulating x86 apps... yeah not the best experience.

But to be fair if you can make a compelling browsing experience why waste the performance where it is not needed.

It's always about the right tool for the right job.

Only $2,495 usd, but it's an PorcheBook It just gets worse and worse. When will this madness stop?
"Having a non-computer company like Porsche Design:bigconfused: come in with a high-style product like the Book One, however, confirms that people are willing to pay more money for pretty PCs. Hardware enthusiasts may grumble about a compromise or two, but this PC is really speaking to a different audience" :tears:

Acer has done a similar thing over the years with Ferrari branding. Some things should never be mixed.
But it's true, people pay more for looks - it's just getting real bad with so many gaming laptops roasting the internals, throttling performance, locking users out from maintenance/upgrades trying to be a thin as 2-in-1's.

If you're gonna go BGA, you might as well go water-cooling Extreme BGA :)

That's an awesome setup, we have some NBR members that bought it and love it, here:

IDK if there is a 7820HK version yet, but that would be awesome to OC on water, maybe getting 4.3ghz-4.5ghz :)

I think a more pertinent question is, "does this make me look "water" cooled"? :D

When I had my Alienware 18, Dell had its own hardware diagnostics tool I think and even there was a key combo you could press before starting the system to do hardware tests before the system even boots. Why are they trying to abuse the usage of 3rd party software now?

Sad....but since there can't be any insult to injury, I'd rather take that tripod over AW's latest not-so-masterpiece. At least on the Clevo, the CPU die may be actually centered?

There is no excuse that Dell couldn't have done better...look at the latest Asus G701VI for example. Fantastic heat sink system, heat sink quality and FOUR point mounting system. It's actually the best I've seen. The tolerance levels are excellent.

Why not? Soldered Cpu, Gpu, Ram, Ssd's and finally soldered heatsink. Maybe welding the MB with glue on the chassis. Just wait. This will come :D Apple here we come!!

Well Apple already tattoos the RAM on so we'll likely see it next on Apple, especially with it now going down hill. Might as well just weld the screen shut.

I have uploaded to my onedrive the 5.5.2 version of whocrashed as that doesn't have the stupid sunday only rule, click my sig on the updated ISO link. You will need to delete the files in \programfiles\whocrashed and replace with the ones my zip

While it is still in the wild you can download from https://whocrashed.en.uptodown.com/windows but I am sure the dev will contact them to remove the old version soon.
