Those usually aren't from the sellers themselves, most of those promos are from NVidia and Intel directly. I'm pretty sure that particular one is an Intel promo

Why do they think that it is okay to brand U type processors with games tho? An U processor cannot do MS word correctly... -
THIS below... This Dell machine is acceptable for me and should do the job well for others too!! The only miserable with the deal is Windoze X Home edition. But you can find a very cheap Pro key on the web for much less than what the "laptop" costs. A big win win
BTW. Have you seen what Intel's price settings for the <high end> i7 U models? Lower power the more should you pay. Take a look what ODM's wants for the JOKEBOOKS with the most powerful i7-xxxx U modelsMr. Fox likes this. -

My sister has a Surface Pro 4 that has an i7-6650U. Plays Portal and Civ at medium settings at 30-40 FPS. She works with massive Excel spreadsheets, too, and they literally fly.hmscott likes this. -

And why pay more for the same?

I had 4710HQ and I was not very satisfied with the way Excel and Word worked with it. Sometimes it would lag on the pages and scrolling would not be very smooth. Really uncomfortable. -

Like I said quite a few times, don't trash the technology, trash the cynical way that companies are implementing and/or marketing it!
And yes, I can finally feel the strain of my i7 2630QM. Sure, it's socketed, but it feels as good as a current BGA CPU. Then again, this laptop is 6 years old at least, maybe it's hinting at me to move on...Last edited: Mar 17, 2017SimplyJ3sse, Georgel, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

For now, I will stick with a 390 SGD computer (everything included but I decided to change the RAM to 2 x 8GB) that a LAN shop is selling; it is an i5-4460 paired with GTX 750. And then switch between both my laptop and this computer as and when I need to. -
-
Sadly, the 560M still has issues with current drivers, which is one reason I need to switch over to the 390 dollar computer (see my thread on flickering over HDMI issue). Another reason is that Sandy Bridge CPUs are simply too weak for the game capture device (Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2) that I am using; strange slowdowns are observed when used with my laptop but not with that computer. -

My productivity work means at least word, Excel, PPT and F2K running at the same time, 20+ chrome tabs and 2-3 other text editors / at least 7 windows file explorer windows.
Maybe my work is heavier than I would had expected and that is why even 4710 HQ might struggle, especially compared to 6700K. Windows 10 doesn't make thing better either... -

I am unsure if I should go for a 1080P screen that is bigger than my 23 inch 1080P screen and live with it, or save up more and gun for a 1440P or even 4K screen
In short, I am unsure about the benefits of a bigger screen vs bigger resolution -
You want the biggest resolution you are comfortable reading. -
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I'd say 1440P is good in the 23-27 range, above that I'd start looking at 3K or 4K -

This is the model I own at the moment.
Image is sharp and clean, colors are really awful ex-factory but it can be calibrated to look good.
refresh rate stays at 60 Hz, there's no much way around this. -

The idea is that you want a bigger resolution to physically fit more on the screen. Just having bigger monitor means that objects are bigger on it, there are not more objects. -
The hit from 1080 to 1440p doesn't scale linearly like that though.
-
Since I tested it over multiple games, Phantom Pain and Dota2 takes way less of a hit than other games, so it is safe to have in mind that a linear hit is the most that can happen. -
Looks like I need to think this through a bit moreImHere likes this. -
For video, having a bigger resolution is heaven sent - anything under 1440P is really small or adobe AE, especially if you tend to reach the point where you have tons of layers and such.
About speed of work, it might work either way, not sure if the resolution requires anything more for video or photo work. That is because you're still working in the same resolution, the presenting resolution being larger doesn't mean much for the program. At least from my experience, between FHD and 1440P, I actually work faster in 1440P since I see more of the image, so yeah...
If you need excellent colors and such, be prepared to calibrate this display, it comes really bad out of the factory. Really bad. -
For gaming, I think 1440p for a 560M could be enough to choke it. More pixels and more vRAM needed than I would expect the 560M to be able to manage effectively. You will also have to grow used to the 1440p screen and may not like it. I know it is not as popular and it used to be, but I still think 1080p is the ideal resolution for most things. Scaling at 100% is flawless. I like the 1440p screen for things other than gaming. Thinks like using Excel and seeing more columns and rows, or viewing two Word documents in side-by-side mode is a whole lot better.

Seems to me that overclocking IPS panels is generally not as successful an endeavor as TN. If you want a high refresh rate, buying a display with a natively high refresh rate is the best way to get there. Buying a low 60Hz panel with the idea of overclocking it to a nice refresh rate is not a good idea unless you enjoy being disappointed.
-
I wouldn't say that's always true. The panel MSI uses in their 18.4" models overclocks quite well. Mine would hit 110-115Hz easily, and I think basically everybody could hit at least 100.

I really miss the flush bezel of the Alienware m18s. It looked so beautiful. Anyway... I'm going off topic... back with the turd venting
-
Ashtrix, Dr. AMK, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
To put it in simple math and engineering: The IPS matrix does not move as fast as needed for OC to make more sense.
This is tricky to explain, but basically, even if the computer sends data faster, the display itself doesn't respond fast enough and won't change shades fast enough. This can be measured and the explanation is simple - TN is the way to got for refresh rates and IPS for colors (in general).Dr. AMK likes this. -

Where can yooo find 7850hkBGA ?Haven't seen Intel have pushed out new unlocked BGA
How about 897cb in Cinebench R15 with 6700K running 4.0GHz.
Only 2 points lower than this thrilling *amazing* unlocked 7820 BGA Turd clocked higher 4.3GHz but wimpy 899cb
I went back to take a second look of the test of this new *amazing* unlocked BGA trash. As expected... Fully throttling!!And the reviewer from Notebookcheck say it's still impressive. What?
I don't get it. @Mr. Fox +++ do you think this is impressive?
How in hell can this reviewer say... As mentioned in the section Software, the Core i7-7820HK works at 4.3 GHz in the Turbo Gear Extreme setting? When the result is the opposite?
YEEES. Intel's old software is intended for their BGA. And all BGA lovers welcomes with both handsPretty? Vote with your wallets!!
BTW All unlocked BGA running @4.3GHz throttle. See Notebookcheck database for the Trash!!

Why only 900 in Cinebench tho? I mean, either it throttles during the test, or?...
Wondering what are the temps during this load? -
-
-
They can throttle without reducing frequency. Hard to describe. I've seen it while OCing my 5820K. The cores would report 4.5 GHz but CPU workload was at 80%. Something to do with keeping high clocks but reducing the number of instructions in order to keep temps down.

Gaming 17.3'' ROG GL753VD, FHD, Procesor Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ (6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz), 32GB DDR4, 1TB + 128GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1050 4GB, Win 10 Home - 1500$
1050 at this price tho... I mean... 1500$ for an 1050 GPU1080 is about 2200$ for P775. I mean, man...
32 GB of RAM is okay - good actually. I don't have more, but I would need a bit more. Still okay.
128 GB of SSD and a bit hard to change is troublesome, don't know, at 1500$ is a bit too little and I would need more.Ashtrix likes this. -
