CLEVO Drivers Update Utility by OBSIDIAN-PC

I would fancy letting you do that on my laptop and see if there is overheating on it natively, or if there is something like wrong settings that are giving me high temperatures.

On the other hand, it is ~30C in my room in Romania, so that might be connected to the overheating problem...

 

Very happy to contribute by purchasing a license for the app, even though my laptop was supplied by PCS in the UK - the app is very useful and although I could probably get by with the free NBR license, I think those (like Obsidian) who put the effort in to support CLEVO buyers should be compensated for their time and resources. John does his brand a lot of credit with this and I would encourage all those here to pay if they can.

Two questions regarding the different editions of the tool:

- Will the Ultimate version include functionality to install your custom BIOS for non-Obsidian customers in the future?
- Is it possible to upgrade from one edition to another later on without buying a new full-price license?

 

Does not include BIOS sorry, maybe someday we will find a way to do that too, not for now.

Something I've noticed with the free license that's inconsistent, not sure if its intended or not, but I can "force update" the regular drivers, but I cant for the "others" tab

 

More strange behavior - with the basic purchased license, all looks good then after 30 secs the app stops running, the "Obsidian Launcher" disappears from the tray, and my shortcut to the app can no longer find the Obsidian Launcher exe in the Obsidian tools folder. Any ideas?

This is just a initial implementation.
Will keep improving and making everything more easy.

 

There´s no function in the app that can move the exe or delete it... NONE.
Maybe a antivirus deleted it, which would be weird...

 

Think you might be right about the AV - so I've added the whole Obsidian tools folder as an exception to my AVG protection. Also ran the "update" in the Obsidian Tools folder which downloaded something. Since then, no further issues, so it looks like the AV may not have liked it. Hopefully this helps if any other users have a similar experience.

 

We will soon add a digital certificate that will solve this type of issues (unless your AV is a bastard lol).

 

Despite having an Obsidian laptop for over a year, it's the first time I see this thread. I didn't really look much but it seems you folks now have the option of getting the obsidian app and support from them.

As someone who has bothered them A LOT over the chat, I can only speak wonders of them. They've helped me with really advanced stuff I could never figure out by myself, but also with really stupid things I'm sometimes ashamed to even ask. I don't really know how this app works for those without an obsidian unit, but if you have the chance to get on board with them, just do it without thinking twice!

I must be the most obsessed person with my temps, and they always hep me out. Sadly for them I'll always come back since I always want it cooler

Just a warning, never buy Quake following their advice. I bought it many months ago because of them and I have yet to install it lol

Same reason I decided to buy a license key.

I'm pretty sure this has been said before, but Clevo should license this tool. Sure, it doesn't do anything you can't do without it, but is extremely convenient and saves the user a lot of time.

 

Or they could send me the control center source code so i can fix it, improve it, and merge with this tool
Now that would be a bliss.

Oh, and one question:
When can I expect to receive my (pre-made) CPU profile for TS? Any estimates yet?

 

My problem is not sending the profile, the problem is making 100% sure you wont lock your laptop.
For instance: having TS start with windows with a profile that crashes your system. I´ve seen this happen!
So i need to make a simple tutorial (maybe a video) showing you step by step how to load, test it, backup, add to startup, and well, how to use it, without messing anything.
And btw... this is really a bad timing since i am out on vacations :O

Is the currency EURO or POUND? I too lost the ability to update since it is asking for license.

 

To update drivers you can use the free NBR license, scroll some posts back.
To download latest app version there is also direct links.
If you still wanna buy, its EUR.

Dude, you have to check ur paste and sealing. I run D3 on 4K DSR with GTX 1080 SLI. The GPU temperatures hover around the 70s. 94 is unacceptable for D3.

FIY, app will NOT store anything about your personal information in the server, licenses are a mix of checking between simple values like UUID and HHD serial, then there´s just quick comparison on the fly with server against local.

So I gave your app a try, my model in the signature P651SE , used the app and the license here ( was really interested on how it works before I bought it) . The issue I see is that the app doesn't recognize my model, mentions this is P650RP6-G and also is telling me that my bios version si 1.03.01 ,but if I check the version in BIOS i have 1.05.01....do you know why? can you help me know why this is happening?

It looks good, but so far for me , it doesn't show up real information...

The app does not do auto detection of model, by default it selects the first entry, that´s why it is showing P650RP6-G, you then need to manually select it.
It´s actually easy to do model auto detection so i will make that for next update
About the detected BIOS version it depends where your BIOS stores the BIOS version, the app queries using WMIC, and either your BIOS version is not typed in the correct place by who did the BIOS or Windows is not updating that info.
I will also change the detection to try to make sure it is done properly.

 

Really appreciate your reply. BTW, i have checked for my model as well , but my model is not listed there... Looking forward to see your next update, I will give it another try. By the looks of it, my BIOS seems to display fine both BIOS version and EC version 1.05.01 and I am pretty sure there is no other official BIOS updates out there...

I'm also really grateful for all the hardwork you've been putting into supporting us Clevo users both on Obsidian and here on the notebookreview forums.
I remember coming here after making my laptop purchase, and I've been on the Alienware side for a while, but man these desktop replacement laptops are amazing. I don't think I can ever justify Alienware again.

Because I want the community and everyone to benefit from John@Obisidian-PC's work, I decided to get myself the Ultimate Edition of the Obsidian Tools. Thanks for the support man, I'm glad that this thing exists. I'm surprised many other vendors don't have something this user-friendly and convenient.

Being a PC user, the worst thing sometimes is just not keeping up to date with the driver support. So many many thanks to John for helping the community in such an amazing way.

A small update before bringing new stuff

- Fixed sometimes the app changed the current working directory
- Improved detection for "is TS task running"?
- Added check connection before trying to do other server side requests
- Removed the chance of duplicate "add to windows startup" after a BIOS update
- Initial attempt on first run model detection @Xdrqgol
- Improved current bios version detection
- Improved app change directory detection and correction prompt
- Other small fixes

I´m always amazed on the amount of bugs such a small software can have :O

Yeap same thing, is telling me that I have a 1.03.01 bios ...still the same for my P651SE model...

 

Maybe i do not understand what you are saying.
The BIOS section shows you Your Current Installed BIOS version which should be correct right?
Then under that line it will show you the Latest available for your model, which in your case it´s irrelevant since your model is not supported.

 

I have attached couple of screenshots to display the problem. I have used update.exe to update to your latest, and after the initialisation the bios is not correctly registered. My bios settings displays 1.05.01, your app displays 1.03.01. My model is not listed as supported, maybe that is the issue? My model is P651SE. My wifi card is 7265....

Well, the app asks WMIC for the BIOS version.
Something like this: wmic bios get SMBIOSBIOSVersion
That is a command you can test by opening MSDOS and typing that.
That type information is usually inserted in a DMI table in your BIOS, what probably happened is that someone forgot to update that table.
When you enter your BIOS and see that information like you posted (first bios page) that is stored in another section, it´s a string that should be at 0x1698, so while that string was correctly updated, the DMI table was not.
I have seen CLEVO messing that up a lot, so before we send out any BIOS we usually do a complete check and manually adjust all DMI information and even change some BIOS Strings.
Bottom line: do not worry about that

 

I think that BIOS version reports as 1.03.01. Open CPU-Z and check if it has the same value of the App.

 

If it does it should not... since we first started doing the app i never had this problem, version always reported just fine in all models we sold.
I was not aware that there were models with BIOS reporting wrong versions, again, BIOS problem, not the app

 

Hi @John@OBSIDIAN-PC, can you give the NBR license user able to enable/disable Use latest Audio Driver even if breaks SBX (if you dont use SBX select this) option? Thanks.

 

App folder / settings / settings.ini
Change this:
audioversion=false
to
audioversion=true

It´s not like i removed the options, i just remove the easy access to them
If you have patience most of the options are editable with that method.
Although some will not work because they need to be triggered by the app to actually do something.
Example:
startwithwindows=true

The control center issues are worrying me, so I was hoping this tool would support it, but I don't think it does,

Hey guys, does anybody have trouble with the 1.4.0.4 version of the AP driver? In my laptop i amd getting a status_device_data_error when i enter device manager. The hotkey version i use is the latest one (5.0001.1.27)

 

Anyone know a more permanent way to get my color or ICC profiles to stick better when launching full screen games? Creators Update broke this feature for me, usually I do nvidia control panel custom color settings... used to work fine... sigh... my screen is so dark cause i overclock from 75hz to 100hz you see
