CLEVO Drivers Update Utility by OBSIDIAN-PC

Hi @ John@OBSIDIAN-PC, good afternoon.

Sorry to bother you, just sharing that the update to CCC 5.0001.1.37 with Obsidian Tools gave me a bit of a hassle today.

1st attempt: Updated CCC using Obisidian-PC Tools interface. It uninstalled the old version and asked me to reboot. Loaded Obsidian Tools again, it then installed 5.0001.1.37 and asked me to reboot a 2nd time.

So far so good, but after restarting for the second time CCC tray icons weren't there. I've tried to launch hkeytray.exe manually and a background process indeed started (I could see it with Task Manager), but tray icons weren't there even after a restart.

2nd attempt: Clicked on "Force Enable" and went through the full routine with two restarts again. Same results.

3rd attempt: Manually uninstalled CCC 5.0001.1.37, downloaded and installed CCC 5.0001.1.05 from Clevo's official website. Installation went smooth, tray icons are back. Launched Obsidian Tools again, went through the full routine a 3rd time and this time everything worked.

Unfortunately I don't remember what version of CCC I had before the 1st attempt, probably whatever version Obsidian Tools was distributing before . Anyway, problem solved. It may also be a one-off thing, but sharing just in case.

Thanks for sharing, unfortunately there is not much I can do, the only thing that the app does is check for a installed version, trigger uninstall and re-install.
If somehow I manage to reproduce it, then I can get to the bottom of it.
What I did notice recently is that there are antivírus software blocking stuff from uninstallers, YES, antivirus completely wrecking uninstall processes without even notifying you or showing any action in the log.
Not only there's a chance antivírus messes with our app, now they even mess with installers and uninstallers...

We been having so many problems with antivirus software that I dare to say that that antivirus are the worst kind of virus.

Yeah, I always disable ESET when installing drivers just in case (not that ESET gave me any problems so far, better safe than sorry).

 

Hi @John@OBSIDIAN-PC. After experimenting with installing Realtek audio driver, I found that CAB file from the Microsoft solves my problem. I think u can do something similar to Killer Wifi driver that extract out the CAB file and deploy a bat file to auto install the driver.

Update: After further testing and experimenting, I found that the way I actually solves the problem is I install the driver from official site ( http://www.realtek.com/contact/contentView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=1&PFid=1&Level=2) then get the latest driver from Microsoft ( http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Realtek Semiconductor Corp. sound). Then I update and replace the driver to latest version with Device Manager update driver function. I suspect that there are some components for Clevo P650RS-G ALC898 audio codec are missing when Realtek packing the latest driver. I already email Realtek for this issue and hopefully it can be fixed for the following new version.

How come there are so many updates? Intel Chipset for example, Intel official site still says the last WHQL update was January 17, 2017... so how do these other websites come by them first, and Intel has yet to even update their official link once? Seems fishy to me. I think I will just stick with official Intel links for now even if they are "outdated"

As soon as i start selling that model (already on it´s way to us) i will add support for it.
I really dont want to add models that i can not test.

Officially the latest is .06, not sure if im releasing 06 or jumping straight to the next.

What are the changes? for the new BIOS versions .06 and .07? just curious if i should bother or not, because everything seems to be working fine for me

 

Seems like it is licensed now and you have to buy to continue using it. Thumbs down. I would expect at least some warning before updating to a shareware version.

To use the basic driver installer it is still free. It was announced before it went over to a license version and this happened back at the end of June

 

Not in the app itself. I haven't used it, I was on an older version, after update - cannot do anything, it says "purchase license".

Hmm, but I have here the stock BIOS "P870KM.08" from another source. I don't know if this is the same as the .06, but the date on this is August 04.

Can someone here tell me what the point of a firewall is?

I blocked all with my Windows Firewall settings, including those on the approved list, and everything still works perfect... I play a new game, I watch Netflix, I browse the web...

So what is the point of Firewall? why not just block everything by default? Speeds seem to be the same for me as well.

 

hey john do you know if there's an updated driver for the touchpad , more updated than feb 2017? i keep having these damn bsod with syntps rarely , but still even with my old drivers, i wonder if eventually a new one is gonna fix

I had the exact same problem and these steps fixed it. Be sure to read it very carefully, do not delete the other registry stuff.

If you want exact steps in case you're not too familar with regedit, let me know, I can help you out!

 

hey ty for reply! i did follow that guide too but idk if i'm stupid or what , my pc would not boot anymore after that! i guess the keyboard had gone unresponsive or something ( i had to do a windows restore point) and i had specifically done the thing in that guide :/ i'm not sure what i might have done wrong..

 

Hi @John@OBSIDIAN-PC, any new update for chipset and killer wifi drivers especially for chipset driver as I get DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION blue screen for the very first time.

That´s the one i have in the app at the moment.
As for chipset i dont see any update. And i´m not getting any BSOD on any of our units.

 

There is a Killer Wifi update, i will try to release it today.
Not sure if that will fix your problem.
Do you have any external devices connected when you get that BSOD? We are not getting any in our units.

 

Maybe I have connected to my phone for charging. Not really remember.

 

And there should be no need for updating Intel Chipset Device "Drivers"- According to Win-Raid.com

 

I have been getting consistent "No connection to server! Check your connection and try again" errors. I have an Obsidian system so that should not be an issue with the license, i believe. Any ideas?

 

Hummm that´s probably bad internet connection or something to do with server firewall, i never get that so i thought everything was just fine, either way i changed some firewall rules, if it does not get better then it´s probably your connection.

 

Apparently windows10 blocked the Obsidian_Launcher and update for some reason... Oh well, all is fixed now. Windows 10 woes...hehehe. Thanks for the firewall hint!

I had some issues with the Audio driver even on a fresh install. Had to remove the driver+SB stuff and revert back to Windows Drivers. Haven't had the time to re-download and do another installation to test.

Hey all I'm having trouble with the Utility downloading updates. It runs fine until I click to update a driver. It goes to the screen w/ the downloading bar but the bar never moves and it freezes essentially. Since I technically can't "uninstall/reinstall" I'm not sure what my next move is here.

Hi @John@OBSIDIAN-PC, this also first time I get this BSOD. Any idea why this happens? I installed control center from Obsidian app.

 

It´s not the first time people report this BSOD, it´s touchpad related, or it seems it something with kbfilter from CC and Touchpad driver, i wish i could reproduce this to get to the bottom of it, but i actually never experienced it myself so it is a very difficult for me to know what is causing this.

Actually Windows update seems to be serving a Audio driver update that works with SBX, so i might pull that one for the app.

 

I can confirm this. Just installed SBX after your post and it works without any issues. Screenshots of the drivers I have are below.

 

For some reason the utility is not working fine for you, probably missing files.

I just discovered this. I wondered whether the P750-DM2G was supported (i6700K, Win10). The P751DM2(G) is listed in the system drop-down, so I wanted to ask. This also goes to the payware license question : it wasn't clear whether the profiles would work with the Skylake hardware, and also whether the custom profile license mode is available for non-Obsidian machines.

 

I heard back from support so wanted to share the reply for reference :

"That´s the same model as the P751DM2-G, fully supported by the app.
Advanced license should be enough for you, the 6700K profile will probably work perfect out of the box"

Small update with some bug fixes.

Most important, made some changes to the bios flash process (clients only).
Since i´m rolling out BIOS updates for almost all models i wanted to make sure the process is even safer and more easy to understand.

Next update will include new laptop models!

More stuff to add: New Killer Networking WiFi (12.0.0.438) and BT (10.0.0.438) drivers came out two days ago.

 

my soundblaster says it can't find any devices. I think i accidentally had the app install the latest driver? anyways, I can't get win to uninstall the realtek driver to reinstall the older version. You wouldn't happen to know how to get the older driver reinstalled would you? lol.
