CLEVO Drivers Update Utility by OBSIDIAN-PC

The app if fully supported on all TM1 units, im using it myself on a P775TM1.
The only reason for that might be some kind of problem connecting to our server.
Where are you located at?
Did you download the app from our website? The latest version?

 

Yes, and DVDs are cheaper than USB flash drives (assuming cost has anything to do with it, too).

 

I downloaded the latest version from your signature. In Windows 10 it would get to the point where it would say you need a license, in Windows 7 it just spun and never fully launched. I'm located in the US on a completely unfiltered internet circuit. I never installed my VPN on that machine to test if it would work from Canada or Europe.

Unfortunately I had to deliver the machine to my client, so won't be able to mess with it any more. After getting some feeling for the keyboard and watching the screen flicker lines across it periodically and temperatures climb to 88° in about 15 seconds running Throttlestop, I'm not so sure I want to get my own 875 or even 775 any more.

 

That´s why you should always get a unit from a dealer / shop that ships the laptops ready for 100% usage with proper cooling assembly/mods and everything configured with backups and installers ready on a USB pen.
We value the "make out clients life easy" thing...

 

Actually, I did. Somewhere along the line after I'd checked the box for the USB drive, it got unchecked in their updated quote and I didn't get it. I still wanted to run the tool and also run it on a desktop that it should have been able to find a few chipset and generic drivers on. They also don't support Windows 7, or provide any drivers for download so I could even try to get them to work in Win7.
In the end I got Win 7 on one drive working with their Win 10 on another, but am very disappointed that Clevo doesn't support UEFI-CSM so I can dual boot instead of having to switch back and forth from legacy to UEFI mode in the BIOS. This is the only time I haven't been able to get Win7 running in UEFI, even on Dell's with almost as limited of a BIOS.

Also, unfortunately, Obsidian isn't in the states, so that limited my Prema partner and dealer delid options too.

 

Hi @ John@OBSIDIAN-PC. There is one thing I not sure until now is if I install latest Realtek Audio driver (current latest version is 6.0.1.8328), will ESS™ SABRE HiFi DAC for high resolution headphone audio still working properly on Clevo P650RS-G? My assumption is it is independent from Realtek Audio driver as it's hardware based audio decoding module.

 

Hi John, I thought I'd see what versions your tool would give and found the NBR license doesn't work anymore. Is that right?

There is no fan control available.
It would probably have to be something made by CLEVO or at least they would have to release the details on how to communicate with the BIOS like they do in the Control Center utility.

 

i thought the quiet, performance profile is considered as fan control. thats the one im talking about, not actualy adjusting fan rpm.

 

So basically you mean running the Control Center software in "server OS"? What OS would that be?

Hey John, will my license work in a new clevo thats compatible since my current laptop died and is being replaced or do I need to message obsidian support to get it re-bound / buy new license? I was also wondering if support for the P775TM1 is planned

I didn't see this in your list of compatible Clevo computers so I was wondering if you guys support this model? I need a tool like this SO badly because I currently use Windows 10 and my old drivers no longer install properly - I will add that the driver's I've installed have given me nothing but trouble (wifi issues, bluetooth issues ESPECIALLY) so a tool that can handle all of that automatically would be an instant buy and a godsend for me! Please let me know!

I unpacked the license file and that didn't work, only then I tried to just put the zip file in the folder and that worked.
Feel silly for not trying it before...

Also, my DM3 is on the fritz, memory slot issues, and I have an option from my reseller to upgrade to a TM1 instead of a straight swap for another DM3.
If I get a paid license and use it on my DM3 now, will I be able to use it on my TM1 replacement later or will it be locked to that one specific DM3 model?
i.e. is it serial number/hardware ID locked or model locked?

 

Yes, it´s very common for people to get a new unit or get a new replacement on warranty.
If that ever happens to you just mail us with the new UUID and we will update your license in the server.

 

When you purchase your license you first get an email.
Then you reply to that email as instructed.
Then you get your license.
Sometimes it can take a while to take care of everything. Sorry about any delay.

 

Hi @ John@OBSIDIAN-PC, recently when I cold boot my Clevo P650RS-G to desktop. It will have loud fan noise when I open a software and after a while the loud noise will stop. I suspect the problem is cause by latest Intel ME 11.7.0.1057. Do you plan to update new Intel ME version soon?

 

Hi! I have the same problem since 1 month ago. I tried to reinstall windows and drivers but I still have the same error.

Did u fix it?

 

From my experience, when I start to have this issue, 2-5 minutes a BSOD will slowly become totally cannot run the game then RMA the laptop. I ady RMA my Clevo P650RS-G laptop for 2 times for the same issue. Seems like a lot of Nvidia 1070 GPUs have quality issue. So far after 2nd RMA until now still dun have this GPU issue. Hopefully no more for this issue anymore.

 

Yep, I already spoke with my seller to change motherboard. First time that I sent it I think they just repaste without solve anything. Last days I get the error more often, usually when I start games with a high demand for GPU (no so often if I underclock -400mhz the core, but still happen, and it isn't a solution).

I saw in different forums persons with same or similar problem, and in all cases that they fix it, It was changing the motherboard . And I also saw that the problems started to appear two month ago in almost all cases ¿probably last nvidia drivers or windows update Ò.ó?

Important Notice:

Although the BIOS tab is a feature only for OBSIDIAN-PC clients, users form this forum requested that they could at least check what is the latest BIOS update version (that is why that tab is visible even for non-OBSIDIAN clients).
Because of that i would like to point out that we are rolling updates for discontinued models that have BIOS versions that do not exist in the CLEVO download page.

For example:

P775DM3-G BIOS Version 1.06.12
Latest CLEVO is actually 1.06.11, but we decided to make our updates, and to make the app trigger the update we needed to increment the version number.

All the updates we will be launching this week are OBSIDIAN-PC updates, we had to do this since CLEVO did not fully address Intel Security Fixes

For OBSIDIAN-PC clients:
Latest BIOS Version include:
Updated ME/CPU Microcodes addressing Intel Security Problems
This will give a Meltdown/Spectre safe system with good performance
We are also taking this chance to update other modules on this discontinued models, we did intense BIOS menu clean up, tuned some values for performance, added new Boot Images, and other small fixes.

If there is no update for your model please gives us time to do this.

I'm just now coming across this page. Nice to see a driver-update utility.

I'm assuming this will work on my Prostar Clevo?

I have an old stock BIOS that has never been updated (1.0.3 I believe is the version #). I want to get it updated for the Meltdown/Spectre stuff, but I have no idea where to download it from. Neither Prostar nor Clevo have it on their download pages and I'm a little bit wary of using the ones I've seen on some unofficial websites.

Will this work with my Laptop? Or is this limited to Obsidian Clevos?

This is limited to Obsidian branded ones only. You need to contact Prostar support and get the BIOS and EC firmware from them.

You can download and install latest Intel Microcode for Skylake from Microsoft update. Be sure you have updated your Windows Version (Fall update) with needed patch for Meltdown as well.

Do you know if that covers the Skylake Prime number bug too?

I recall something a while back about something with a rare Prime processing procedure causing crashes, but not sure if that was fixed via a windows update or not.

If you haven't encountered any problems, you shouldn't worry about this. Skylake chips was shipped out in millions. And how often do you see people talk about it and say they have problems? Forget this. I would be happy if you posted a few benchmarks with and without the new Intel microcode. Thanks

The utility will allow you to use all these tabs:

- Drivers Update
- Drivers - Others - Including SynTP Fix
- CPU Tab with options for using TS in a more "simple" way
- Widgets Tab

The only thing that is exclusive to OBSIDIAN-PC laptops is the BIOS tab.

"I want to get it updated for the Meltdown/Spectre stuff" - Officially there is still no CLEVO updates, at least not for SPECTRE, that´s why we made our own.... was kinda tired of waiting...

 

Unfortunately i did not have time to do intensive testing. It´s just toooooo mmmuuucccchhhh work updating all BIOS

What im trying to do is setup the default CPU values for limits/clocks/times/voltage to boost a bit more performance, we have thermal room for that, just hoping this minor tweaks will make up for any performance loss the patch introduces.
Although in the end we do ship each unit a TS profile and our APP, with everything done exclusively for that unit to achieve better performance/thermals, but as always, some clients just format the units and delete the contents of the USB pen... deleting 1h+ of hard work, so if the defaults are good at least they get that.

I ran the InSpecter tool and it says I'm protected from both and my Performance is still fine.

I didn't benchmark anything but I played a few hours of World of Warcraft and some SW: Battlefront and there was no performance impact that I was aware of. So, works fine on my end. I'm usually locked in at 75FPS for G-sync anyway and it never budged off that framerate. Thanks again for your help!

OK, thanks. Driver updates are still good to have. Mine are still from 2015/2016. My Touchpad has been a bit flakey and WIndows Update actually pushed a new update for it on their end which I installed; however, it's a barebones driver - doesn't let me scroll using the side of the pad, nor does it have any auto-disable options when you plug in a USB mouse. So, I'll go grab that new one from the app.

Also, I contacted Prostar last night about a BIOS update for my Clevo, waiting for a reply. I hope they get back to me. This laptop is barely 2 years old. It should be getting regular updates from Clevo themselves, at the very least.

Many thanks for this terrific utility. I was looking for something like this even before I had bought my laptop.

Just one change / notice that I think should be in the first post: While it might be true that the app itself doesn't ask for admin privileges, the license file doesn't 'take' unless you run it as admin. It will keep telling you that you need to purchase a license. (I'm currently on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 1709 Fall Creators' Update).

EDIT: Also, please add more models/variants in the drop down list. The app works fine; it is just that the model is not listed. I have a Eurocom Q5 (P957HR) but I had to choose P950HP6.

 

Never had that Admin thing happening here.
By default the app requires Admin privileges, even the app icon will have the admin prompt mini-icon on top of it. The only time i seen weird admin problems with the app was with anti-virus software doing crap.
Actually... 99% of the app problems are related with anti-virus, just like everything else, driver problems, driver install errors, driver uninstall errors, all problems are usually related to anti-virus does not matter if you install them using the app or not.

About adding more models, i cant add models which i do not sell, i need to do minimal testing to make sure drivers work fine.

 

@ John@OBSIDIAN-PC, do you have a stock 1.05.10 bios for P775TM1-G model?
