Hey guys, thanks for the new updater app and for enabling/making PayPal payments easier (way back in ... err.. January I tried to procure the full-up version of the old Tools app, but I don't think it was an option back then). I do have a quick question and a not-so-easy/quick feature request for the new Control app, though - namely, do you plan to offer (modest) discounts for the Keyboard and Fan modules you're planning to implement and the feature request - can you implement some sort of a workaround for the abnormally high sound levels from the headphone amp on the P650HS-G, when you boot up/wake from standby with a plugged in wired headset. into the control app?

Huh, I don't remember this tool requiring payment to use. Is there way to still use it for free or has it shifted to a paywall model entirely? If so is there an alternative software that gets the job done?

Did the Control Center alpha get released this weekend? Or am I confused?
-
It was a trade, I give you Control Station and Keyboard LED for free and in exchange I took away the free license.
Leeching was out of control damaging the server load and overall service quality.
There will soon be 4 apps:
- Updater for drivers
- Control Station to replace Clevo control center
- Keyboard LED
- Fan Control
Control Station and Keyboard LED will be the free apps.

Buying before release means you are supporting the project, BUT if it's not going in the direction you wanted you should suggest what we should change and read our reply first, we might be unable to add the features you want...

The purchase URL is right here: https://code.obsidian-pc.com/product/fancontrol/
Acquiring a pair for the Q6 and the P751DM2-G. At last I can now ditch the cancer that is Clevo Control Center. -
-
For one, I'd want to see this project succeed, and I have the financial means to make a decent contribution to it.
Seeing a Clevo partner take the helm and address this long-standing issue (dropping Clevo Control Center's bloatware as a necessity in fan control and keyboard back-lighting) is commendable, to say the least. Keep up the good work.
This is an example of a vendor walking the talk. And this effort, and the financial constraints involved in making this project a success, matter as well.bennyg likes this. -

May I request the ability to disable exiting confirmation dialog for Updater? Also will there be a "bundle discount" when purchasing both Updater and Fan Control?
Thanks for creating these great software!John@OBSIDIAN-PC likes this. -

PS. So not a single comment on the fan control thing??? Does it even work in your system?? Cmon guys let me know!

Such a great news for clevo users! Seems by testing that my undervolted 7700hq on N870HP6 (Sager) dont need even more than 65% of duty cycle in full load to maintain under 73c and do not heat up more than that, WAAAAAAAAAAY more quiet behaviour than with EC automatic profile and basically same temps so far (compare to 50% duty on 50c stock fantable lol)!. Not so good with GPU thou.
@John@OBSIDIAN-PC A bit of report: maybe it's due to Open Hardware Monitoring engine, but it seems a bit problem with GPU fan in manual mode. When GPU is heated up to, e.g., 75c, and i close the benchmark app, fan stops spinning at all immediately, without cooling it to certain value. With working MSI Afterburner monitoring thou after closing the benchmark fan will start and stop spinning every polling period until reaching certain temp (like on-off every 2 sec or so, until specified temp for 0% fan duty is reached). Dunno if that is specifics of this model.
Want also to ask @Meaker@Sager if any cooperation with Obsidian is planned for Sager users could get this cool stuff somehow in future?Last edited: Jul 23, 2018Boseph McGee likes this. -

This will be solved by the time of release version.
At the moment i will just improve that by adding a forced ramp down on optimus systems, you should get that on next beta update... i honestly did not had enough time for all Optimus related considerations.
Thanks for your comment!

Guess everybody are busy with testing, it's been a desirable thing for several years as i know
Trying to figure out how the ramping works, am i right that basically with minimum 'fan update interval' and maximum 'Fan ramping steps' CPU fan should change it's speed most smoothly?.. -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
So it´s basically at each X ms (update interval) the fans will go up or down X amount of steps....
Smother Ramping means less steps, being 1 step the smoother.
With few steps it takes longer to update the RPM so you might need a faster Update Interval (smaller value).
With bigger steps (25 steps or more) you can get away with bigger update intervals.
I use 160ms update time, 5 steps for CPU and 20 steps for GPU.
The beauty of this is that on next update you will be able to setup the Behavior for EACH fan mode. So for Silent i will use something like 200ms / 1 step / 2 steps, for Normal something like 160ms / 5 steps / 10 steps, for Extreme 100ms / 25 steps / 25 steps. -
I'm still at work so I haven't been able to test the fan control!
But before I do and feedback, do I need to uninstall CCC or close it, or can your fan control tool be used alongside it? I have some keyboard lights configured so I don't really want to uninstall CCC until I can fully replace it with your keyboard LED. -

If the app crashes it will get your fans stuck at the last RPM... so you should consider keeping an eye on it, and if it crashes double tap FN+1 (max fans, auto fans).
THIS IS ALPHA!!!! Testing purpose only!
Here is what´s coming next, Fan Control will not run unless Control Station is running, this will give us a DOUBLE security, if Fan Control crashes then Control Station will immediately set fans to Auto and notify you about the crash! This is possible due to an already included system that allows our apps to talk to each other, not just checking if it´s running but doing all sorts of data exchange.
To this date i was unable to crash Fan Control to be honest.... i´m doing my best... the only way i can make it crash is if i use a Automatic mode and format the entry tables with wrong numbers or letters... but even that wont be possible in the next update... so it seems solid!!! VERY solid.... I guess having a double security will be just a matter of really wanting to be able to call it a 100% secure app. Also let´s not forget that if system overheats it will throttle down, if that´s not enough it will shutdown (all systems do this by EC).
If anything closes Fan Control it already sets Auto fans on exit. -

John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
A) Make an option to run Control Station with minimal background stuff (already in the works since it will have a Gaming Mode)
B) Instead of using Control Station to add a security layer i can create the lightest possible background service (around 10 lines of code) just to keep an eye for Fan Control crashes, this task will start along with Fan Control and be killed when you exist Fan Control
To be honest i don´t know what´s the new CC (2.0) take on this, if we set it to manual and then Kill it what happens to Fans? Have anyone tested it?Papusan likes this. -
Seems to be working great for the CPU fan even while CCC is running in auto mode. The fan control app is very responsive to the temperatures in manual mode. However, I can't get the GPU fan to work. GPU shows up in the app as "Disabled". I have a P950HR. Open Hardware Monitor the app itself does detect the GPU and the temperature, so not sure why your fan control app doesn't?
-
Thing i've noticed now is that if you set Fan Control on 'Manual mode', close it properly with automatic EC restoring and then re-open the app fans will turn on 100% for a second before starting to behave according to manual config -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Try killing all instances of Open Hardware Monitor (ALT+CTR+DEL) and then restart fan control.
i went for that first high rev sound like when you turn on a Ferrari...

So far the Fan Control seems to work fine, it took my settings and work fine, however there are a few things that don't work:
Webcam
Touchpad
WiFi
Doesn't work at all, can enable or disable those things.
Apply volume on headphones doesn't work either.
FN +1 doesn't work, when selecting the option "max fan" works flawlessly, maybe add the fn+1 hotkey in the fan control software.
No crashes etc. after using it for a while. Will keep you updated. -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Turning ON and OFF webcam, touchpad, wifi is Control Station stuff.
I´m 100% sure those work on systems with latest drivers / windows 10, BUT the P375SM is a system i never sold so i have no way to test a unit that goes so much back...
Maybe you should focus on Fan Control only and forget about Control Station? Since Control Station will have supported ONLY for the same models that the Updater supports. -
But the max fan thing is something you can look at. Kinda weird, especially since it does accept "automatic mode" but doesn't switch to max fan. -

I'll give feedback on Fan control when I'm back on the Clevos. -
Also when doing a stresstest, fan control will cause microlags, not when doing normal tasks tho, only on stresstest.
Also I noticed that the CPU reading is bugged. It says my Fan runs at 5-10%, when changing settings in manual mode, I ramped the fans up to 50% to test if it works, and the fans spin up accordingly, however the tool still shows only 5-10%, not sure what causes this funny reading tho.
EDIT: nevermind, apaprently it's the CPU and GPU usage, which is odd. I think you might want to add "usage" somewhere, since I thought those were actual fan speeds and not usage :'DLast edited by a moderator: Jul 23, 2018Boseph McGee likes this. -

There is NO indicator of Fan Load / spin... The indicator show actual CPU and GPU cores Load/Usage.

when doing stresstest on GPU, it doesn't cause microlags. Only when doing CPU stresstests.
Also it doesn't start with windows when I select "start with windows".
There is also a little glitch which I think is a conflict with my clevo control center, because when I do a GPU only stresstest, the CPU fan goes beserk and then slows down in specific intervals. (goes up due to Clevo Control Center and down due to manual fan profile)
tested the tool for couple of hours thus far and didn't crash a single time.
