I found a workaround the scaling issue right click on the exe file, properties, change high DPI settings, click on Override and pick System (Enhanced)

Found the engines, the default displayed was Core Temp that did not work ( it was showing me 0C as the CPU temp) so I switched to Open Hardware Monitor... and it reads the CPU temp corectly. Thank you !

The funny part is now when I am switching back to Core Temp is CPU temperature displayed remains the one read by the working engine... it's stuck... Maybe it would be a good idea to go to zero instead... some might get fooled in thinking that is started to work for some reason.

    Ok, first issue detected

IF I have Open Hardware Monitor open no matter if it's minimised in the tray or taskbar and I start ThrottleStop 8.60 and start an TSBench session, while it crunches numbers the computer freezes for several seconds at a time (3-10 seconds). During this time the CPU fan does not ramp up according to the CPU heat.
Closed Laptop Tools... the issue was present... closed Fan Control... the issues was still present but less frequent... then I notired that the Open Hardware Monitor was still opened... closed it and everything was fine...
Opened LaptopTools, Fan Control again tried a new test in ThrottleStop.... everything worked fine.... no freezes..hmmm

Thanks why I like core temp better ;)
We should soon have our own monitoring lib that should be actually the best solution for this cases.
Our code for GPU ended up being something very unique and something I'm proud of.
    Gimme time for CPU

Oh and be sure you are not running multiple instances of OHM ..

The behavior described earlier it repeats itself each time I restart or boot the computer.
Discovered that after windows boots, if i close the fan app and Open Hardware Monitor and I relaunch them everything is fine... so I kinda need to cancel the boot start.
No, only 1 instance of OHM present, I've checked.
Regarding the CPU ... Yes, of course, take your time, I just wanted to signal the issue.

What if you go to Task Scheduler, edit the startup task for Fan Control and add a 1m delay?

Hi John. Testing your Keyboard Lights app, and working ok. Only thing I miss is being able to enter my own RGB values for each zone. (I like to match the kb color to the characters I play on SWTOR, which have unique lightsaber colors, like turquoise, Hot Orange, etc.)

That's the next step for Keyboard LED, not only being able to type RGB values but having a RGB color picker.

You should know that your described behaviour never happened to me, and I'm actually quicker to believe there's something else being a problem in the background. Since our systems are almost the same.

See if you can get a Prema mod from Prema with a donation and see if this fixes it. Your behaviour sounds more... weird than standard.

I did and no, it's not working... there is something odd going on.
I had to give up loading Laptop Tools and FanControl at windows start because if the freeze on heavy CPU loads.
I encountered the issues even if only the LaptopTools were set to load at windows start.

One more minor bug that I've encountered : Every time you enter FanControl Settings section is show that you are using the Core Temp engine although you are not actually using it.
Also there are issues selecting Core Temp... i tried a few times to try and get rid of Open Hardware Monitor by selecting Core Temp but it did not stuck for some reason
Also when selecting Core Temp, the app did open along side FanControl and it was working, it was reading my temps alright... The FanControl did not seem to pick them up from the CoreTemp.

    I have:

    CCC installed (being properly overridden)
Dirty windows install (1.5 years old)
    Tried both OHM and CoreTemp
Ran a bunch of tests on varying product versions

I simply cannot reproduce your error.

Hey John, just wanted to report that the Control Statoin is using 0.5% CPU constantly and also using around 400 MB RAM. Has been open for a couple of days now. Not using any of the monitoring features/widgets, so it really it shouldn't be using anything. This is also when it's minimized to tray.

Unlike other software like Fan Control and Updater, Control Station is yet to be optimized.
RAM wise you do not need to worry as it will use and release automatically according to available.
The CPU cycles are mostly debug code running ever X seconds.

EDIT: Just checked mine and it´s at 0% with 18Mb Ram, running widgets and all!
    Are you running 0.0.10 ?

Have you downloaded Fan Control from here:
    http://obsidian-pc.com/FanControl.zip
    Place contents in C:\Program Files\LaptopTools\
(I would download again and replace all files)

I tried reproducing your problems but was not able to.
    Any heavy Anti-Virus software running?
    Do you have CC installed?
What windows version and language are you running?
I can switch around, the only true bug i could find is that it isnt saving the Engine selection! Dumb bug from my side, sorry, will release a fix right away!

    Will do

I tried reproducing your problems but was not able to.
No, just the inept antivirus software that comes with Windows

No, clean windows install, no CC installed on it... ever. (I wanted to avoid issues)

That I can't tell for the moment but I will a bit later...

No problem, I am just doing my tiny part to help with the project, pointing my finger at bugs :p

I began to suspect that it's generated also by LaptopTools. Yes, it's a good possibility that my bios is to blame here but it's a stock, although old, Clevo bios that most of the sellers have. I just got my machine and to be honest I will use this bios for a while, just to make sure the hardware is alright. I might upgrade the bios to a newer version, also Clevo stock but I am waiting for newer version from my seller and instructions how to.

Yes, read about the issue on this thread prior to me actually using but people were taking to stutters... mine freezes for many seconds at a time... sometimes up to 10... during that time nothing works... then works for 2-3 seconds... then it's frozen again for many more seconds... and this goes on till the TS test ends (usually I use the big one, 1024)

Yeah, I'm running 0.0.10. It's 0.1% and 26MB for me at the moment. The earlier figures was after a long session of Windows without a reboot, like 4 days (I usually just sleep the PC overnight so the uptime can get very long). So it might be something that happens over time.

Yeah but those were caused by the actual UI.
Just by minimizing it should be solved.
BTW this only happens with the OHM engine right?

I only used OHM because the other engine does not work.
The odd thing is that the freezes happen only with ThrottleStop on the screen... I keep the FanControl and LaptopTools hidden away in the notification area
If I stop the TSBench, close FanControl and LaptopTools and open them up again and start running the stress on then CPU with TS everything works fine.

Might be something related to both OHM and TS use WinRing0 to fetch values.
But CoreTemp should be a better engine then OHM for CPU temps. I do not understand why it does not work on your system...
Are you running from C:\Program Files\LaptopTools\ folder?
    Please try with latest 1.1.02

Fan Control Beta is now closed again!
We are now developing our own CPU Temp method, we re-open Beta when we have some update.

The Security Thing is still very annoying if you use a 8750H.

Yes it spikes up to 95° but not for long and will drop down 20°+ or more in a millisecond.

If i set to automatic and shut fan control of and the laptop spikes again into the 94-95°, the fans doesnt even care, they dont ramp up. and that is because they dont have to. the laptop will drop down back to the 40-60° in notime.
clevo did a suprisingly good job with the fan tables in CCC 2.x for coffee lakes.

the laptop doesnt even get warm at the outside. realy.

pls add some hidden switch in the config to disable the security feature.
for my second device with a coffee lake, it sucks bigtime.

And let me disagree, they did an awful job with both fan control and cooling system, but hey that´s just my opinion :p

Did download the FanControl again, unpacked it over what I had in C:\Program Files\LaptopTools\, did overwrite everything.
Started FanControl, it asked for me to update and I did. Entered settings and picked the OHM engine the only one that can read my CPU temp and I also set the FanControl to start at windows boot. Restarted computer.
Booted in windows, waited for 2 minutes to settle down, started TS Bench, I've chosen the 256M, started the bench, computer froze in the first 3 seconds for 4 seconds, unfroze for 2, froze again... and so on.

Ok, after many tests and restarts I concluded that the freezes happen only when FanControl is set to load at windows start.
I did set a delayed start to 1 minute but no luck... the issue was still present.

If I have KeyboardLed and LaptopTools and TS run automatically at windows start and I manually launch FanControl (with OHM engine) I have no freezes.... no issues.

I'm not sure that I have not written about it here, but I found such a bug Keyboard LCD - after leaving the laptop in sleep mode (closing the lid), the application of Keyboard LCD turn off settings, the keyboard glows blue. Enabled / disabled did not help, only closing the application and running it restored LED.

I agree with John. CCC was not doing really good with fan tables.

And personally, I didn't like a single thing about CCC. John's software is on a whole new level IMHO.

Now it works perfectly for 1 maybe 2 minutes from the moment windows boots up (when I have the app set up to run automatically at windows boot)... then it freezes heavily.
In the prior version it was freezing from the first minute IF the FanControl was set up to start at windows boot.
I don't know exactly what the "delay to start security" does bit it looks like once it kicks is i am toasted... pardon... frozen.

For your particular problem the next update should include a new CPU monitor engine that should fix that

BTW system freezing on 100% CPU is common, that's why you usually would want longer TRdelays. The real problem I see is that during that freeze you are not getting your fans duty updated right?
I will tweak thread priority for safety reasons.
I'm sure that this is also happening to you with other apps that keep querying Windows APIs like WMI.
The final Fan Control will not use any WMI query with included monitoring engine so that should solve your problem.

I ended up purchasing the Updater since I've used it a few times with NBR license and felt guilty, then found out how awesome the silent mode on fan control software was! (I was able to use it without a license by right clicking the notification tray icon and choosing a mode, not sure if it's supposed to allow me to do that with no license?)
Realized how much I like the silent mode instead of EC and bought that as well, woo, I'm on a roll.
Anyways, I just took an update to the ControlStation.exe today and now it no longer opens. I also removed one of my GTX 1080s, not sure if that messed with it in some way.
It will put the notification tray icon for ControlStation.exe briefly in the tray and then disappear entirely.
There's no config files created, nor logs. Let me know if I can assist in any way debugging it.

Excited for LED control of the back of the screen to show in Keyboard LED (it will be there eventually, right?)
It's the only thing I'm missing from CCC now, and the only thing keeping me awake! (literally lol I started putting a piece of cardboard over my laptop at night)

BTW my SoundBlaster is always ahead at 1.00.19, I guess you guys just don't have an installer for that one.
New nVidia hotfix driver available too: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...vers/announcing-geforce-hotfix-driver-398-98/
(has G-Sync windowed mode bug fixes)

im with you, i hate ccc and the clevo fan tables on my older P670RS-G are terrible. but they improved that a lot on my new device.
your software is far better of course. i will check the 2 sec. delay tomorrow but im afraid it is not enough for the new cpu.

my old laptop will never trigger the security settings and if it would some day i would be happy about it :) but on my new one it happens to often.

gitkraken for example does trigger it if i check out a new repository. if all data is downloaded and its initializing the rep., the cpu temp ramps up to 95° temporary, but longer than 2 seconds. the funny thing is it never gets hotter than that, no matter if the fans spin fast or not. sounds strange and i never expirienced this behaviour in the past but it is like it is with this type of cpu. as i mentioned again, the fan tables from clevo on my new device doesnt even care about those spikes, they ignore it more or less. the laptop doesnt get warm or even hot on the outside too.

those temp spikes are to short tto harm or heat it up but too long for the current security settings.

am i the only one with a new coffee lake btw? maybe some other guy here can confirm this behaviour.

its this device, maxed out configuration: https://www.mysn.de/schenker-multimedia-laptops/schenker-media17-m18
which is basically the same as this one: https://www.mysn.de/xmg-advanced-gaming-laptops/xmg-a707-m18

anyone here does own one of those with a 8750H cpu?

I have plenty of those units around here.
Those spikes throttle the frequency down in mine.
So what I am doing is undervolting them, limiting the max clock a bit down and adding a thin sheet of copper in the CPU.
    No spikes here....

I've just purchased a Fan Control licence. I've wanted something like this for years.

Thank you for all your hard work.
