Can you make a start minimized option?![]()
Also Do you plan on adding more features? Maybe something like a custom cycle of flashing or so? =D

Let me just finish Fan Control first
First non-beta should be out this week

But you can mail us to update the license.
We will add either an automated license uuid updater or other solution.
Until we polish our stuff you can rest assured that we are easy to reach, proof of that is our active presence here and speed that we add features requested by users.
Guess that's actually our strongest.

Would it be possible to have the tool update notification dialog / prompt include a changelog, for those that don't track this forum regularly?

Hi John,
Just updated to the new update and Internal CPU monitor has now froze on 0% albeit the temp seems to be monitoring properly

It's ok tough we are not using the Load for anything at the moment.

You mean after suspend or after sleep?

While compiling Linux I noticed that I can't seem to trigger the fan table cells for CPU 80 GPU 40 or CPU 85 GPU 40. It always goes between CPU 75 GPU 40 and CPU 90 GPU 40 even though my CPU is not passing 83 according to the CPU temp displayed by the Fan Control program.
Here is a screenshot display my configuration: (3440x1440 sorry) )

We have been focusing on the manual mode so we been neglecting those table based automatic modes.
I will try to reproduce that tomorrow and check what's going on.
EDIT: Well i got curious, and i just checked and found the bug... it's fixed now, i will release an update first thing tomorrow morning!Last edited: Aug 15, 2018 -
Just purchased the updater and I'm looking forward to Control Station and Fan Control. Will it be possible to have simple fan and power controls be provided for free similar to how CCC did it, or is it already a feature?
Also, anyone happen to have the latest CCC for P650HP? I want to reinstall it again because it broke a bit. Don't want to switch to the Control Station beta yet. -
Not sure if this has been reported yet, but FanControl appears to have a memory leak in the current build.
After about 1 hour uptime I'm looking at 230MB ram usage and it just keeps climbing at a rate of about 0.5MB/second. -
Indeed - I'm seeing the same memory accumulation here for Fan Control.

Most of it is debug stuff that is being removed on first non beta release.
We can either release per cycle or according to system let it release when the system wants to.
I'll do some testing later and remove debug stuff which we do not need anymore.
I was aware of the behaviour already, it just wasn't time *yet* for optimization, that was going to be the next step after I finish the last item on the list, which is basically adding CPU Load in the internal engine.
First non beta is really around the corner

Can not wait. I can wait, but really I can’t. Did some stupid things tonight and had 100deg temps on cpu
-

The internal cpu sensor is stuck @ 0% load for me.

John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
A proper Load Report is a calculation
I was doing it in the "real way" not some stupid windows query.
Thats why in the last release notes i wrote "NO LOAD FOR INTERNAL ENGINE YET"
No one reads my stuff.... sooooooo lets do this:
FAN CONTROL 1.1.05 released
- Internal Engine now includes CPU Load too
- Fixed a bug in the Automatic Modes (Table Based) where some temp ranges skipped to next value
- Greatly improved memory management
- Fixed a bug in Behavior ramping down
- Increased Delay to start Security
Milestone First Non-Beta (Whats missing):
- Get FAN RPM
- Add Display Changelog on update

I think i might have only 9 months to keep this up, then i will REALLY need to calm down and start to share some time with another very tinny project!
So i need to have stable releases for all apps ASAP! -

Hi @John@OBSIDIAN-PC,
Does http://obsidian-pc.com/KeyboardLED.zip work without the full LaptopToolsFull.zip? I was wanting the use the Keyboard LED as a standalone, but wanted to make sure first
Also - what's the status of Keyboard LED - is it alpha/beta?. Thanks. -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
The only thing that might be missing is the Clevo dll install in case you have not run Fancontrol or control station at least once.
BTW you can use the full package, we do not create additional files anywhere, no junk, no registry entries, zero!!
You then decide what to use or not and what to start with Windows or not!
Keyboard LED is the most alpha of them all... Almost no work done there.aznxwill likes this. -
What exactly is controlling the fans before a user logs into their laptop and the delay period passes? I wish that Fan Control would actually start in the background without requiring me to log into the laptop, and therefore be controlling the fans both after a normal boot (from being off) and after a reboot (such as one in the middle of the night for updates). I'm a bit nervous about leaving the control that I have tweaked in Manual Mode up to anything else now. Prior to this utility, I rarely ever heard my fans spin up - which was more of a concern than I even realized at the time. Should I be worried about these times when Fan Control is not in control of my fans?
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
If you sleep or suspend the laptop and then awake it the fan control will keep controlling it like it was before.
This is the more secure method, nothing I can do to change fans while booting
Not sure I can make it kick in after boot and before you login... I will test it!

The alternative would be a Windows service but that's also pretty hard to setup. -
I think it uses a bit too much CPU cycles this update; it keeps my CPU from going down to nothing with light loads. But otherwise the internal information looks pretty good!
I know it might not seem like much right now, but it's a lot for just fan control. Hopefully you can iron out what's up soon =D
Edit:
Have some sweet sweet fan tables!
-
Oh indeed, I didn't notice it was using so much CPU and also 1 GB(!!!!) of memory until you pointed it out lol. Maybe its UI is updating in the background (noti tray) and not freeing resources?
It would be cool to have a different variant of the program that used a headless windows service for Fan Control, Keyboard, etc. and then just had different .exe to launch that provides the same GUI but communicates with the service. This could drastically reduce resource usage without needing to run things in the tray too.
One thing I'd really like to see if it isn't already a feature is a ramp limiter in the automatic modes. Ex. in behaviour tab:
Limit fan speed increase to [ X % ] every [ X ms ]
Limit fan speed decrease to [ X % ] every [ X ms ]
This would help immensely with the sudden fan jolts I'm experiencing when my CPU has a load spike for half a second, where it doesn't *actually* need the fans to go instantly to full speed ahead. -
Edit: mine is only using 22MB as of the last update -
So much better thanks John! With 10min of tweaking and a compromise I finally have my temps down to mid 80’s. I hope your hard work pays off...

So I have not tried your program, but it sounds like it could REALLY fill a need for the community. I just wanted to share some of the limitations I found with CCC and see if they will be an issue for your program or not. I found that I could not have both XTU and CCC installed at the same time. I later have read where I think Phoenix describes a way to keep the XTU service from running at start up. I have not tried that, but I imagine even when you do go ahead and run XTU; that if you haven't stopped the CCC services, the same issue would occur. The problem is that neither application will register the cpu, no temps no nothing. The only way I found to fix it, is to uninstall both, and only have one or the other installed. Uninstalling just one doesn't fix it, even after restart, so my guess is even the stop or prevent services trick might not work either. I like XTU quite a bit, for many reasons. So for me I don't want to uninstall XTU. Also I wonder what happens to your control once an application like XTU gets in the way? And would it cause fans to not work when needed? Out of the gate (having both XTU and CCC installed) gave me a BSOD just from making a meaningless change in the bios.
So I know you are using the CCC dll, and that CCC itself does not need to be installed. But I wonder if it will have the same type of behavior as CCC does when XTU is installed?
Thanks! Sounds like you are doing some great work there! -
For the past few hours at least, latest Fan Control is 1.1.06 but when you click update it downloads 1.1.04 instead. (I think?)
It might be downloading 1.1.06 but not extracting properly. I can't find where it's downloaded to. -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
If it wasn't minimized then it was UI related, normal, goes away when you minimize.

Hi John, for some reason, the newer KeyboardLed stopped restoring the config after resuming from standby. It's gone back to blue. And for some reason at this point there are two "KeyboardLed" instances in the task manager. Not sure where exactly to confirm the version in-app but it's 0.0.1.0 file version and 0.00.01 product version in the exe properties.

I believe minimized, but what I did was right before I took the shot I had updated, I was still on the one you had given me. I just noticed I could no longer get idle usage as low (I did exit core temp)

Hi all! New member here
I just purchased a licence for Obsidian Tool for my Clevo P651HS-G. However, when I try to run the installer fails to install all the .dlls
Same problem with Fancontrol. The funny thing is that if I download Obsidian Tool not from my account but from the downloads area of the website, I can installi it, but when I insert the activation code it says "product activated" but nothing else happens.
Anyone experienced similar problems?
Thanks -

When you minimize it is very low resource, around 0.1 to 0.5 max...D2 Ultima likes this. -
