I think everyone is holding their breath in here awaiting the next alpha/beta release...

 

In the meanwhile i updated Control Station to 0.0.16
- Better app quit to avoid windows hanging during shutdown saying the app is running blablabla
- Added "Do not show exit dialog"
- Added "Re-Apply On Start" in CPU Tuning which will reapply values on Start if the values changed since the last time you pressed the "Apply" button

 

i have losed my brightness control on fn buttons but other sound,touchpad activations are working. Cant confirm because of this program or not.Anyone having same?

This program won't stop anything from working. On the other hand if you uninstalled CC, some features might be missing.
What is your model?

n957tp6 just cleaned and reinstalled cc and same. İ can change brightness from windows settings by the way.

Probably need a BIOS update. Some while back that happened to a bunch of models. We had to release a series of BIOS updates to fix it.

So should I install control center, if I don't want it to adjust my CPU at all, I just don't tick "manage my CPU"? I can just use it with block background processes?

I'm waiting for the keyboard LED to happen I'm so excited to not have to use CCC ever again

 

Install Control Center for what?
Do you mean Intel Extreme Tuning?
If you don't want to manage your CPU with the app, just don't select the "Manage CPU".
If you want to manage the CPU with the app just install XTU and also select the option to stop any XTU service, so that the app applies values but then stops process.

Sure, I can deal with the backlight on my lid being on until light control is ready. I'll probably do that this evening or tomorrow.

 

So.. my UUID is now different from what it was when I purchased Updater and Fan Control, so I cannot activate with my order number. Please help.

 

I was gonna buy the Updater but I want to know something first.
I just bought a new PA71ES-G from HIDe and haven't even unboxed it yet (been too busy with exams and all). So I want to have the drivers pre-downloaded from another PC ready for a fresh and clean install but isn't that going to have a different UUID tied to my Updater purchase? Will it cause problems when I set everything up and install the Updater in my new laptop, or can it be changed later?

 

I certainly hope it can be changed! I have no idea why my UUID is different now, but I have receipts to prove that I bought them. Maybe it changed when I had to repair my corrupted EFI volume?

Congratulations on purchasing that system! I'm typing on a PA71ES-G right now and I love it. I got mine from Pro-Star. Fan Control and ThrottleStop are 100% necessary for this unit. People say it runs way too hot and if you run it straight out of the box, then yes! I agree with them! The point is: this system has to be tuned. Just because the 8750H can turbo to 4.1GHz doesn't mean that you necessarily need to do that all the time (or even at all). I usually disable turbo boost completely if I'm not gaming and then just max all my cores at 3.2GHz when I do game. The performance gain to heat output past 3.3-3.5 is just not worth it.

 

Do you recommend XTU or Throttlestop? I'm not a big fan of control centers so am always a bit weary of using stuff like that. Does TS only come with CC? (I'm on a p650hp btw)

hello. i 'm in need to format and reinstall windows. what's the correct procedure to backup my obsidian license and restore it onto a fresh windows installation? i also would like to not lose all my configuration that you did on my throtlestop john, how can i back up everything or which ones are the files that i need to save?

I'm having all sorts of issues with the fan control. First the update hasn't worked the last 3 updates, it always fails and I have to shutdown the process and restart the fan control. About the same time I noticed the gui for the fan control is only half there, I mean no boxes next to the fan modes, and no color anywhere else (just black and white). Also cant see the minimize button or the close button but they both still work if you can figure out where to click. I also think the fan modes are working but you just have to click about where you think the box would be. Fan table is blank too.

I also had a blue screen and a hard lockup in the last 24 hrs which both are very odd and a first for this machine. I believe that the hard lock was caused by the fans being off and the machine hitting max temps. The keyboard was hotter than any laptop I've ever felt before and the fans didn't appear to be running at all. So I deleted everything in the fan control folder and downloaded a fresh copy and it seemed to work great that first time (colors were back, boxes and minimize etc). However on a cold boot this morning the machine never came up fully and I finally had to hold the power button down.

Also I'm not sure it stays running unless I leave the window open, as I never see it in running in the notification area.

Any ideas? It appeared to be running great a few versions ago, I really wish I hadn't updated it now.

 

You are missing files or you are running it from the wrong directory. Make sure everything is at:
C:\Program Files\LaptopTools\
All exe needs to be there.

If you are indeed running from the correct directory then you are missing files, go some posts behind and redownload the full package and replace.

 

Copy the software to a folder and after install windows put everyback in the same dir.
ALL settings are stored in .ini files so you can just backup LaptopTools dir. Or ObsidianTools if you are using the old version.

Confirmed I am running it from the exact directory (same one I've been using sine the beginning). I have redownloaded from the links in your signature, I guess I didn't think to look into past posts for fear of outdated info. I will go searching now then, thanks.

 

If anyone is having UUID changes just mail us with order number and new UUID and we will update it.
I'm already working on a solution for that, license should survive even after changing UUID.

Headphone fix is for anyone who looses headphone output after waking the laptop from Sleep.

About brightness fn control, i tried last night installing the old intel hd graphics driver and it worked again. Your program caused nothing but updated driver it is.

That seems to be consisting with what happened with other models.
At some point intelhd driver changed something and from that point on the only way to change brightness is with a BIOS update to make it compatible with latest drivers

After applying recommended settings CPU tuner (i have i7-7700HQ) CPU multipliers have down from 38 - 34 to 28 for all cores. I dont know, maybe it`s should be so ( by the way - why for 7700HQ recomended to down turbo boost power (power limit?) from 45 to 27.5W? ). The problem here is - 1) dont display on Control Station current CPU settings (Core offset voltage ang etc). Several times it happened that in CS (control station) one values, in XTU or TrottleStop others. Because CS can not be trusted necessary used other apps (like XTU or TrottleStop for monitoring). Pls to added monitoring fuction or advise convenient soft for this.
2) After i disable CPU tuning and setting go to default, CPU mult dont changed, and in last version not possible to edit. I had to restart laptop with default setting in bios. After that CPU mult. became correct value 38-34.

Control Station uses XTU to get and apply values.

If you want to use it you need to have XTU installed and you should not use another app at the same time.
If you use something like TS it can make XTU buggy, to solve that disable TS, reboot, enter bios and load setup defaults.

We are still improving that section and more testing is needed.

For the 7700HQ both our app and XTU will not allow you to change multipliers.

Quick question!!

Can anyone with a P950 / PA71 with 8th Gen CPU tell me if they are able to install latest NVIDIA driver using the Updater Software?
I think there is now two NVIDIA packages and for new models it only allows to install a custom package which is pushed by NVIDIA Experience.
Please confirm this so i can develop a work-around

 

I just updated my GTX 1070 drivers to the latest 399.07 version and now FanControl is not using the fan values it's trying to set via Extreme Mode table for example. For example 85/70/70 or 100/80/80 but the fans are barely spinning at 30% or so. Rebooted once. Maybe just waiting for it to find it's way again will help?

Just a weird thing, I also saw Intel ACPI requesting boot after updating the nvidia driver.

I have everything else up-to-date via the great driver updater you provide so just wondering can the ACPI thing make FC lose it's ways for a second as while i've been writing, i'm hearing the fans slowlyu coming alive to normal levels.

 

Not sure what was that Intel ACPI thing to be honest... never seen it.

Yeap thanks to your report i did a test, was able to reproduce it, checked my code, noticed a commented section that i had comment for testing purposes! .... i guess i was too tired that day.... lame bug to be honest!

 

Another issue i'm facing, this time on Manual Mode atleast, if I have my CPU fan % anywhere between 51-99% it's pulsating instead of spinning normally. 100% is fine, 50% is fine. Can't replicate the issue with GPU fans.

 

Yes, I've noticed the same in Manual Mode - but all the way down to 20% at times. It seems to level out after a little while, but occasionally does not without intervention (moving the slider up/down manually in Fan Control). Only CPU fan for me, too.

 

Please test new updated version Fan Control 1.1.12
