I am wondering, are you able to make the volume go past 100%? Same way VLC Media player was able to push to 200%?

In the app I could add compression or gain or even a simple EQ...
The thing is, when a app is the source of the audio that's easy, when we are talking about routing the master through the app and out that would add audio latency and CPU usage... Not ideal!

Still loving the product, but have a query. You’ve probably already answered it somewhere sorry, but hardware monitor and fan control are reporting different max temp numbers. Which is likely more accurate? 93vs78

With the 6th / 7th and / 8th gen CPUs i tested i got around 2-3 ºC difference. -
Hey @John@OBSIDIAN-PC, I know the Power Modes are in early beta (even alpha perhaps) but I simply switched to Maximum and then back to Normal and it disabled my CPU Turbo and set all CPU Multipliers to 2.2GHz (i7-8750H base). I've set the multipliers back to their original values (41,41,40,40,39,39) but it isn't working. The CPU is maxing out at 2.2GHz.
Sorry if I shouldn't have touched them. Any help is greatly appreciated! -

Or.... Use power modes to tune it to your liking for each mode.
You should be able to use the power modes already.... It's working.
Disable the turbo boost power override... Everything else is simple windows Energy profile!

Also, the Turbo Power Override is causing the brightness to set to 0%. Dunno if its related to it or a bug, just thought I'd tell.
Sorry for the bother! -
1.0.4 control center force closes on me! The icon appears on tray but can't open the app

There appears to be an issue with the internal monitoring methods used by the Fan Control program. It's creating DPC spikes up to 3000 microseconds every second within the Windows ACPI driver. I went looking for the source of my audio issues and seem to have found it!
I simply changed it to OpenHardwareMonitor for now and the DPC spikes are much less frequent (only a couple every few minutes up to 1800 microseconds, still generated by Fan Control though)
Update: Had to change it to Core Temp instead of OHM, Fan Control does not appear to be able to read my 7700K's temperature from OHM despite it being reported fine in the OHM interface.
It seems a bit dangerous, perhaps Fan Control should revert to EC Automatic if it can't read the temperature?
My average input to process latency is 82 microseconds with a maximum spike of 126 microseconds when Fan Control is closed.
It's 680 microseconds average with a maximum spike of 3026 when Fan Control is running.
I would really appreciate it if you could fix this.Last edited: Oct 3, 2018 -

Since the initial brightness slider is at 0 it applies zero brightness too.
Basically you need to tune all values to logic positions to make a complete functional profile.
What's missing at the moment are just some easy to understand default values, I'll make that tomorrow so that it will all be logic and easy to start using it with ability to reset to defaults.

It uses ACPI to talk to EC and it causes spikes.
That's something we are working on for the next big Fan Control update.
Some systems can manage it fine while others stack ACPI really fast and heavy.
Reducing the update time in the behaviour tab can reduce it, same for using Core Temp or the OHM alpha with support for that CPU of yours.

Hmmm package but also top temp for individual core was 93.
Will keep an eye on it... -
Confirmed, 1.04 control station auto-closes. Cannot keep it open.

I am currently not experiencing this same reported issue. The closest I've come to reproducing the problem is double-clicking the icon in the tray. If the app is already open and in view, it causes it to disappear (hide) back to the tray, and since I also have it pinned to the taskbar the (open) white bar under the icon is removed as well. Double-clicking the icon brings it back to the forefront, and the white bar returns. At no point does CS ever exit completely, it just changes the view - from foreground to background and vice versa (hidden in the tray) - could be a feature that John intended to include as this sequence is not exhibited with other programs in the tray, while the taskbar is another story. This is a non-sequitur and seemingly separate from the problem that you all commented on, but I thought I'd include it nonetheless.Last edited: Oct 4, 2018 -
It opens itself and the process for approximately 1-2 seconds.
It closes itself as if end process in task manager was used.
That is the problem.

Give some hours.
I think that in the future i should add a Opt-in checkbox to "Update to latest Beta" so that users can decide to have all the latest stuff, even the stuff in development and give feedback about it or running/go back to latest stable. Seems a good idea right?
EDIT:
Just launched a new update!
Are you guys able to update the Control Station?Last edited: Oct 4, 2018TheChosen0ne likes this. -
I think that you can be more specific in the update window. For example you can add a changelog for every update (I don't always check the forum) and maybe you can divide releases in "stable" and "beta" so every user can choose if update anyway or stay with the last stable version.
EDIT//
With the last two updates when I start Windows with Control Station I've always the keyboard led brightness set to 0.Last edited: Oct 4, 2018 -

Fixed that reported bug:
Keyboard LED updated to 0.1.5
- Fixed a bug where it would not load initial values
Control Station updated to 1.0.5
- Power modes now have default values
- Greatly improved the way power modes are appliedTheChosen0ne and FTW_260 like this. -

It should not overwrite your settings.
After that it should be fixed.
-----------------------------------------------
A more advanced fix:
Go to C:\Program Files\LaptopTools\updates\ and edit the work.ini like this:
ControlStation=true
Now run Update.exe in that same folder... voila!!!
PS. it will probably wont allow you to save the ini file so save it to the desktop and then move/replace it to that dir.joluke likes this. -

1.06 Control Center is also shutting down for me, even when .ini is removed.

Ok so I did a CRAPTON of stuff.
Control station crashes with updated fan control or updated keyboard LED. It simply will not run. I am NOT using control station to handle my CPU/GPU, I am uncertain if this is the tipping factor, but here you can see a troubleshooting video:

One at a time.
Close everything and just open control station, does it work?
Close everything and just open fan control, does it work?
And so on...
I wish I could reproduce this... But I'm not able to... On my 3 units its running just fine.
Edit: just checked the video... Yeah something is wrong... Will need to debug it later.
Sorry! -
Please note that fan control or keyboard LED updating breaks even the older control station software, 1.02 as in the installer file.

Install the LaptopTools setup (that way there is no settings files).
Try it and tell me how it goes.
Also what Windows language and regional settings do you have configured?
Is battery inserted?
Any AV software?
What screen resolution and scaling?
So i can try to reproduce...Last edited: Oct 4, 2018 -
It seems like some other process is killing it, maybe Defender? SmartScan? I don't have it enabled, but you know how screwy MS can be with a new release. 1.02 runs fine, but when it updates, it no longer works. App signing maybe? Expired? Cert needs to be updated for 1809?
Latest KeyboardLED works OK.Last edited: Oct 4, 2018 -
I don't have any AV running, not even windows defender. Smartscreen is disabled. All telemetry in windows is disabled.
W10 Pro 1607
1080p 120Hz 100% scaling
I've determined that fan control and keyboard LED being updated don't cause any problems. I have removed the .exe for fan control and keyboard LED, reinstalled everything, then made backups of the old versions and replaced the .exes with the up to date ones and they work. Control station 1.02 works with fan control 1.26 and LED 1.15. It seems once I updated anything it caused problems, I don't know what else to say specifically. If you want to give me a debug version that logs its own reason for closing itself, I could send you back a log, and you might find what may or may not be interfering with it.
Note: I do NOT have updater licensed, it is the only thing I can think of that may be different between us. @Chastity do you have Updater paid for and Fan Control paid for? Or just fan control? -
screeny attached... I feel like Im staring at something obvious. I never can rule out my own stupidity...

I haven't tried the very latest version yet but will post back. Can also post the Windows Event Log stuff if that helps John. -
I want to buy the license for the Updater, what model should I select for my PC Specialist model please?
-
I'm using ESET NOD32 AV, running Windows 10 Pro 1809 1080p 100% scaling; everything is working fine.
Just thought I'd let you guys know. -
After updating the Control Station today, the app can no longer start.
Anyone else experiencing this? The other components, ie Fan Control, Updater, etc work with no issues.
Edit: Seems to be sporadic. On some reboots, it works. Then the issue returns.Last edited: Oct 5, 2018 -

Hi John. It's been a while since we talked, hope everything is going well for you
I had to reinstall Windows and so I installed the latest Laptop Tools today. I found a problem and I have a question.
Problem: When my external DAC is selected as the default sound device, Control Station does not start, it just crashes. If I change to internal sound as default device, it works.
Question: Is there a way to disable the glowing logo on the Chassis ? The Keyboard LED tool only disables the Keyboard lights, not the blinking light on the chassis.
Thanks.
