I can't send an IM even if I'm here since 2007.
Yes, I'm using P775DM3 but at least fingerprint device seems to be different in P775DM1 ...
-
Yeah I still have all the original package installed from the first msi installer which put everything into LaptopTools.
If I backup my fan profiles I should be able to import correct? -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Yeap, or you can just backup the LaptopTools located in your user documents folder

NEW FAN CONTROL BETA:
*RAMPING TAB:
Instead of the old ramping tab you can now have 3 different ramping values according to temperature
(More ramping = faster fan RPM increase or decrease)
(More ramping = more "ping-pong" effect, you will notice the fan RPM jumps)
So i recommend using a lower ramping value for lower temperatures, so that RPM transitions are smooth. Use a faster ramping on higher temperatures so that the RPM can quickly catch up to temperature rises.
*FAN Amount Optimization
By properly selecting the amount of fans that your system has we avoid unnecessary code routines
*Advanced tab was reported in the previous BETA, i´m still waiting for feedback
Basically it includes new options to increase fan RPM according to:
- Device LOAD (use this as an anticipation option, by starting to increase the fan on load you can think of it as a prediction that the temperature will also rise).
- Unified Cooling - For unified coolers you can now sync fans to the hottest device RPM or manually tune it to transfer a percentage to the other fan(s)
Download: https://johnkeelnas.com/files/FanControl_2019_02_11.zip
How to test:
Exit Fan Control
Do CTRL+ALT+DEL > Go to "Services Tab" > Search for ClevoService > Right Click it and "Stop" it > Dont close this window yet
Extract downloaded files and replace the ones you have at C:\Program Files\FanControl\
Go back to the Services Tab in the Task Manager and start "ClevoService" again
Open FanControl.exe
When this beta ends it will be official released along with up to 4K scaling.TheChosen0ne, HawkInOz and optimisez like this. -
May be silly but does the license for the discontinued updater work on the new one? I bought the other software and just for funsies I entered my UUID/Order number in the new updater program and just got an error that it was wrong. I have no issues buying it twice though~
-
I think it does, I didn't have to buy it again, though I did have to go and get my UUID from the Obsidian portal
https://code.obsidian-pc.com/my-account/orders/ -
I have a problem with audio driver from the updater app, laptop is bought from you guys. Audio driver is not detected, doesnt show even which version is the latest, and when you click install, app hangs and gotta force close it. Where I can get the driver you guys recommend to install?
I tried j95's modded UAD drivers, they work, but i have problem with my pluggable 3.5mm jack mic, since its mono and his driver offers only option for stereo mics.

The old license will work with Updater.
Just copy you license file to the same dir as the updater, usually C:\Program Files\Updater
That is actually a BUG from the Updater... i will release an update ASAP!!!HitZ2976 likes this. -
I also noticed in Updater that if I choose to ignore an update by checking the Ignore box, the application still tells me that I have one update:
Seems a bit counter-intuitive. I would think it would only tell me how many updates I actually have to install (not ignored). Maybe it should state: "X Updates Available" for the total number that could potentially be installed, and "Y Updates Ready to Install" for the actual number that would be installed, subtracting out any Ignored updates. Thanks.Last edited: Feb 12, 2019John@OBSIDIAN-PC likes this. -
I tried that too and it just says invalid license when it works fine on the orig program. Maybe its because you had to change my UUID from the base order last year?
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Hummm you actually make sense, for a change... *joking* thanks! Will fix that in next update!
Can you please PM me with your license order number and your current UUID (copy and paste from the app screen). I´ll fix that for you!
EDIT: Not a single FAN CONTROL Beta report?!?!?
Can someone test it please!!!!! *insert needy teen voice"
or else...
Just read some posts back about the latest Beta and please give it a try guys!HawkInOz likes this. -
Fiiiiine (to both) I will get on the beta wagon in a few hours

is Fan Control the only tool with a beta at the moment? I wouldn't mind a license in exchange for beta testing : P
But really, didn't see any of the other tools listed as having betas but maybe I missed it. Would be glad to play around with one if they do indeed. -

Beta is now open, you can simply install Fan Control and it will work.
Download the installer:
https://code.obsidian-pc.com/FanControlSetup.zip
(make sure it is working on your system)
Then follow this instruction to test the latest BETA:

Hi @ John@OBSIDIAN-PC,
1) Can I just reinstall from FanControlSetup.zip to rollback to stable version if I try Fan Control beta ?
2) Do I need to rollback to stable version after Fan Control beta ends? -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
You dont need to rollback, you can keep using that beta and it will autoupdate to latest stable when it´s out.
The next version will be 2.1.7, codename "PinkButteflyProgressiveVibeKindaStuff"optimisez likes this. -
Hi John. ClevoService keeps starting, and shutting down, program constantly requests to restart it. Starting service through Services.msi also has it shutting down.
Installed using installer, then replaced new files from beta zip. -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Did you maybe replace the whole "monitor" folder?
The monitor folder needs to contain:
-ClevoService.exe
-OBSIDIANlib.dll
-Qt5Core.dll
-Qt5Network.dll
So you basically only replace the ClevoService.exe
Also, a reboot might be needed after installing FanControl. -
I now have the beta installed, and am not seeing the problems reported by Chastity.
Here is my modified method for installing the beta files:
Exit ALL Obsidian-PC Tools, including Fan Control
CTRL+ALT+DEL > Select "Task Manager" > Go to "Services" Tab > Search for "ClevoService" > Right-Click on it and select "Stop"
Rename C:\Program Files\FanControl\FanControl.exe and C:\Program Files\FanControl\monitor\ClevoService.exe so there is a fall-back option without needing to re-install
Extract downloaded files and place them in C:\Program Files\FanControl\ and C:\Program Files\FanControl\monitor
Reboot
Will post if I encounter any problems with the FanControl beta. -
There is problem with 3rd fan (2nd gpu?) with max power. Also, there is DPC latency problem with other modes, so i'm kinda stuck with using only max power while laptop is on.

DPC ? How is that? Can you show me your latency?

Do you have any AV Software installed?
Do you have Control Center installed? -
Is it hard to add compatibility with windows 7?
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Hum have you tried it in Windows 7?
It actually should work...

I have McAfee's but I disabled it for testing. CCC is not installed, just your ControlCenter and KeyboardLED.
-
The KBLed offers to download the dll file for work, but the keyboard does not respond to the buttons for changing colors.
Clean install win7 x64+sp2. (KB3125574)
Dont have any AV or CCC installed. -
The Fix don´t work for me.
Everythng runs fine, only the brightness change wont work.
not only with the FN buttons, also in windows setting it wont work. -
Jonh, to purchase the software on the site obsidian-pc.com/shop/ I only see the payment option in Euro.
Is there any way to make the payment in American dollars?TheChosen0ne likes this. -
You can pay in Euro - your bank/ credit card/ PayPal will make the necessary conversion and debit your account.

Decided to just uninstall it and reinstall. Working properly now. -
@mcalago same here on 7 x64 on p775tm

I might have missed where something similar was mentioned, but I am unable to run the beta of Fan Control. I end up getting an error that QT5widgets.ddll is not found, and Fan Control never opens.
Any ideas? -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
You can't simply run the beta. You need to install the full latest and then replace the two files from the BETA archive.

I would like a response from John on this as well..
-
@John@OBSIDIAN-PC
I wanted to say that after trying the beta, that I loved the results. The default EC fan plans are horribad loud, and using your presets for my PA71HS-G (PowerSpec 1710), Normal User Profile, they work wonderfully, with a minimal temp change. As such, I decided to purchase a license.
(And it's on sale too, bonus!) Too bad you don't have a cost-effective package including the Updater.
ProTip: I couldn't place an order using your CC method, so I had to resort to using my CC via Paypal. -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
I have Paypal there, doesnt it convert automatically?
Is there any advantage of running a paypal account with Dollar? Can i add that currency in my store paypal account (im no paypal expert)?
Can you tell me if the Advanced tab is working good on your system (The Unified Cooling Logic and the Load Based Logic) ?
Also, the new ramping options? How much do you like them? -
I just started using the product in-depth, so I will have to experiment when I get home, so I can use an external panel to game on, and monitor with the laptop panel. I do like the ramping options, tho I have yet to feel the need to make any adjustments. I'll do some gaming while I lay here in the hospital. (Thankfully I invested in a gaming laptop instead of redoing my desktop)
Currently using the Normal User preset defaults.
My big issue is that KBLED and Fan app will not start up on WIndows load. CC does, however.
I had no problem using Paypal as a front for my US Debit Card. It did the conversion to Euro automatically. You may want to put on the Store Checkout page to recommend US-based buyers to use Paypal instead of wasting time trying to use your CC payment option.
-
I had the same issue. Found a Windows update to be to blame. Uninstalled it and manually re-installed it to fix the issue. Details posted a few pages back in this thread...jclausius likes this.

I can't get the control station window to show. Not sure what happened, think it somehow got resized to 0. It shows up in my tool bar but cant see anything and the snap shot of it in the alt + tab and win + tab displays are blank.
-
This happened to me too.
I think this is due to some interaction with some multi-monitor configuration. At least it happenend to me when I was on single monitor after having used the control station on multi-monitor.
By the way, if you want to force it to open you can:
- click the control station icon in the toolbar so that it should open
- open task manager
- expand controlstation application
- right click on the expanded "control station"
- click expand (or however it is called in english)
Now control station should be forced to open at full screen. This actually didn't fix (for me) the control station window since I could not resize it to normal dimensions but at least I could see it at full screen. -

The power modes tab in my control station is greyed out. Why is that and how can I enable it?
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Seems there is currently a bug in multimonitor, to fix kill control station and then open:
C:\Program Files\ControlStation\settings\controlstation.ini and delete the following entry:
mainWindowGeometry=@ByteArray(......
Go to setting tab and check "Enable Power Modes" -
Thanks for clarifying, knew I had missed something.
Fan beta seems to be running as expected on a Powerspec 1510. Auto, Maximum, and Silent all working as they should. No noticeable issues thus far. -
Indeed. I think I mentioned it a while back, but do not drag the window around of any of the apps (ControlStation, FanControl, etc.) with multi monitor.
They fly around erratically and can end up outside the window bounds, and you have to clear the configuration as John said to be able to see them again. -
TheUberMedic Notebook Evangelist
Well Im an idiot. Saw that option and never thought "hmmmmm.... Maybe that turns it on?"
Thanks anyway
-
Hey guys, I've been off the forum for a bit. TS has been giving me a "CPU not supported" error message and won't load up for a while. I tried reloading the original .ini file I got when I purchased the obsidian tool but it didn't fix it.
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Are you using the old OBSIDIAN-TOOLS or the new which is split in 4 apps:
- Updater
- Control Station
- Fan Control
- Keyboard LED
If you are using the old then you should update to the latest, you can use the online chat in our website and we will help you do the transition (even with remote control access if it´s better).
If you are indeed using the latest software and you have integrated TS with Control Station, then you need to check in the ThrottleStop thread to get the latest version and replace the .exe you have, we are not the developers of TS.
