Can you tell me which drivers you could not update?
What are the reported installed version for them?

    Hi John,

It was the Intel ME driver. The latest the Updater recommended was 1914.12.0.1256 whereas I was stuck on 1914.12.0.1208.

However, since then I've actually reinstalled my Windows10 owing to the login screen freezing issue and made the following changes:

-Completely disregarded Clevo's backup disk installations
-Downloaded/purchased all Obsidian's suite of apps and set up everything from there. No CCC.
-Now all is well and the laptop flies even better and cooler than before!
-Driver versions all displaying as they should.

    Great tools John! Thanks again.

I've only got two niggles remaining with my system, and both are to do with component temps (not the CPU and GPU for a change though!). I won't take this thread off on a tangent, but if you could be so kind as to weigh in on the following:

-PCH temps. I haven't got a straight answer to this. Idling sees the PCH averaging in the high 60s (celcius) while any heavy usage for an hour or so sees an average in the low to mid 90s, whereas the 9900K and 2080 sit comfortable in the low to mid 70s. Where is the PCH located in the P775tm1 and it doesn't seem to be cooled as it takes forever for the temps to come down.

-I've two Samsung 970 Pro NVMEs installed in the system (both slots populated but no RAID active). The primary drive with Windows on it sits in the slot under the main cover (by the RAM slots) and it just stays hot no matter what I do. 60s to 70s. Seems pretty crazy. I've got little metal heatsinks mounted to them, but doesn't seem to be doing anything! Any clue what I could do to mitigate that? I was thinking about a custom fan curve to always have them running just for the sake of the drive as opposed to the CPU/GPU, which is kind of ironic!

Finally got around to giving Control Center and KeyboardLED a try on my PA71 ES-G, and it seems that the LED module isn't working for me. From what I've been able to glean, that seems to be the case for many others as well, yeah?

Anything I might try or check to see if there's a conflict?

On my laptop it's just an exposed die on the motherboard. Similar in appearance to older "north bridge/south bridge" chipsets, just without any active or passive cooling.

It depends on chipset but the PCH is designed to withstand high temps. I believe the last documentation I read was something close to 127C TJMax for the PCH.

On battery power I will hover 50+60C. On AC power it idles 80-90C. Extended load maybe 95C.

If you google "Intel Coffee Lake PCH" you should come across a .pdf (long) that will have the exact temperature specifications within.

Keyboard LED needs a service that is installed by Fan Control. Install Fan Control. You don't have to use it at all if you don't want to - just install it and leave it alone.

hey guys, i'm sure this has been brought up before but the search function isn't being my friend. I updated to the latest audio driver for my p650hs-g and now my soundblaster program is broke, says it can't find an audio device. Any ideas? Do I need to go back to an older audio driver? Anyone have a link to that? Thanks in advance!

Control Station is fine. You need to just install Fan Control once to install a service that KeyboardLED requires althought John will fix that in a later update.
Having said that, KeyboardLED doesn't yet support per-key RGB keyboards so you're going to be stuck with an always on blue keyboard backlight. For the past couple of days I've been wanting to try out Clevo Control Center 3.0 (for Intel 9th-gen GPU models) to control keyboard LEDs but unfortunately its not working. Hopefully you can try and maybe it works on your end?

I´m getting some weird reports of users who had CCC installed having problems making ACPI calls using WMI.
I use some of that calls in my software.

As for getting all temperature sensors i think you need a sensors driver from Intel which i bundled with the chipset driver, that´s why some users are probably seeing new sensors after using Updater (not sure).

Cooling down the PCH is not that easy, heatsinks wont do much unless you have some air moving inside.
Can you tell me if boosting the fans to MAX make the temperature go down for the PCH ? If it does i can add support for PCH cooling, but to be honest i don´t see how that can work, i was under the impression the PCH is under the keyboard?
    Can someone check that?

Hi John, I have a weird problem on the latest version of Fan Control (2.4.2). I have a P950HR, and sometimes when resuming from standby and running on battery (low CPU speed, GPU disabled, no fans), I can hear one of the fans spinning gently - I think the CPU fan. But in the Fan Control app it shows both fans as 0%. The way to fix it is to set max fan and then return to normal mode, then it goes fully silent.

I didn't notice this issue before and it usually only happens after resume from standby.

Looks like it's under the keyboard basically right in the middle

Bunging a thermal pad of appropriate thickness to contact the underside of the keyboard (aluminium frame) usually works wonders for pch temps with minimal heating effect noticed on the keys themselves

Using a laptop cooler to increase static air pressure on the underside of the laptop (assuming same-said laptop has underside vents) will improve airflow in the case.

Agreed. Kind of cuts down the portability, though. Good for the desktop replacement models. Not so much for the thin and light category.

Someone did make a physical mod where he rerouted the air flow so that a small portion of the air from the fans ran over the PCH area. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Btw. I have mentioned earlier that these are not really laptops, mainly because the intake vents are on the bottom, and those get blocked when you place it on your lap. Best to run on a flat surface.

So I've got a new Sager NP9176 and the fan speeds seem a little aggressive on it. I'm looking at the Obsidian fan control software but Speedfan seems like it has the same functionality. Not trying to throw shade here, this is an honest question: What makes the Obsidian software worth the 30 euros when Speedfan is free?

The Obsidian app is better supported, uses low latency techniques for accessing data, and is more customizable.

Depends on the cooler. I have 2 of them, one is quite big and not ideal for moving and is AC powered, and a second which is light, and is powered from the USB port. This makes it ideal for using while moving around, and fits nicely in the backpack.

I just tried Speedfan. It could be conflicting with Fan Control. Running Speedfan freezes my touchpad (keyboard still works) and gives me BS data like CPU fan speed 19000+ RPM and CPU core temps 35 C (actual temps are around 50 C - even the HDD is at 40 C; 35 C is room temperature). No way to configure it with touchpad non-operational.

So if I want to completely replace the Clevo CC, I basically need the Obsidian CC, KeyboardLED, and Fan Control, yes?

I'm on the latest windows and BIOS releases if this helps.

There is no longer a driver version.
I now have my own version code, because that's not really a chipset driver, it's a package with a series of drivers.

Force install it to be on the same version of the app and to know when to update in the future.

PS: how do I fix the window settings of the apps? Video driver update screwed them and now everything is hella big. Might be handy to have a button to do this directly from the control station app maybe

If the right bottom corner is off the screen, it is impossible to adjust the window size.
I once had to kill updater, go into documents/laptop tools/updater/updater.ini and delete the line about window geometry and relaunch updater.

I thought fast startup was so that the computer can startup faster after shutdown, not waking up from Sleep?

I can't seem to find a place where I can check if it is enabled, as it doesn't appear that it is in the Windows Power Options.

Ok i just tested on my laptop. I made the Updater window bigger then my actual screen size so that the bottom right resize corner was out of the screen.
I was able resize it easily by moving the window up until i was able to see the resize corner, then i just used it to resize.
So i really don´t get, whats the difficulty about resizing?

weird enough: latest intel graphic driver does not install even though I'm on MS-Hybrid.

    - using updater resulted in the compatibility error and no installation is performed
    - using direct download from intel site resulted as the previous case
    - going through device manager, update driver, online, resulted in the driver being updated with no issues

...again, weird enough the latter approach updated to 26.20.100.6911 while the first ones would try to get the 26.20.100.6912 installed.

BTW, just to point out the sound driver problem. Everything got installed after an upgrade to 1903 and it seems to work just fine. Have been delaying this for a long time just to mitigate possible compatibility issues with some of the programs. So, in case you have sound issues, upgrade your version of Windows under update tab manually.

@John@OBSIDIAN-PC, I got a weird issue with Control Station on my PC (4k screen).

    See attached file.

    upload_2019-7-29_15-17-54.png

When I open the main windows it occupies all the screen with a very weird view. It's the first time this happens. Can you check?
