No point in going mainstream desktops vs. laptops with similar Cpu and chipset. HEDT is my only option if you skip laptop with socket hardware.

add that HEDT with battery built in, and at least 2 display built into along with the case.Papusan likes this.

The idea of TR4 being put in a notebook does make me chuckle a bit at how much space it would eat.

But it would be nice

Can you imagine a notebook with a cooling solution built for a Threadripper? Then pair it with a Vega GPU or two. LMAO! It certainly wouldn't be a light or quiet notebook.

Not for the PCB designers or the cost of such a thing it would not be, especially if you intend to use all those lanes.
It would make the P570WM look like a baby.Last edited: Aug 7, 2017temp00876, hmscott, AZHIGHWAYZ and 1 other person like this. -

Maybe get Clevo to make you a one-off? I'm sure the cost wouldn't be too high. Like just your left arm, you firstborn and your soul.Papusan and AZHIGHWAYZ like this. -
i wish Clevo used kickstarter to see design a laptop with Ryzen and 1060/1070 in a P750XX chassis

I googled "kickstarter crickets" hoping to find an amusing collection of zero interest kickstarter projects, and instead found these:

So happy I googled...

Yes, unlike I assume a Ryzen CPU + Nvidia GPU kickstarter would have been, as in "so quiet you can hear the crickets" - *crickets chirp*:
*"Used to point out or emphasize silence. (Well, not precisely silence, since chirping crickets make sound. But you get it.)
The idea is that you can only hear crickets when there are no other sounds, such as conversation or laughter. Often used to denote the awkward pause after a bad joke.
Joe: What's the sound of two drums and a cymbal falling over a cliff?
Ted: *tiredly* I don't know, Joe. What is the sound of two drums and a cymbal falling over a cliff?
Joe: ba-DUM-ksh!
*crickets chirp*
Joe: ...Oh, come on. That was funny."Last edited: Aug 9, 2017Georgel likes this. -
It's not Clevo that is holding back the existance of this type of product.

Though you also have to understand that AMD is not in a great place financially so they have to be laser focused at the moment on their markets. Hopefully they do well and can expand out from there.

AMD is hitting another peak valuation point...
AMD: A $10 Billion Valuation
https://seekingalpha.com/article/4035299-amd-10-billion-valuation
"2016 is over and AMD's (NASDAQ: AMD) market capitalization has risen from $2.178 billion to $10.21 billion today - a 377% increase over the past year.
AMD has traded at this level on only two other occasions before: Q2-Q3 of 2000 and Q4 2005 - Q1 2007. The rise in market capitalization in both occasions came with the release of a competitive CPU processor/architecture."

That may be tenuous though, depending on how Vega does and what the fallout of these vs the newer intels turns out to be. The current valuation is based more on speculation that they will regain significant market presence in the near future.hmscott likes this. -
At any rate, there is not enough customer request to build those yet, if AMD hits well, I do think that they will sell MAD well.
-

Agreed. I'd say regardless of features or even performance, the crowd that just wants to stick it to NVidia/Intel is big enough that they'll snap them up. -
Well by the looks of it , AMD has taken the lead on the CPU sales but the question is :
Will we see any Ryzen CPU on Clevo laptops...? I see more and more people interested in Ryzen even with the 8xxx Intel series coming up .
IS this idea of getting Ryzen on Clevo (with Nvidia video card) dead?Last edited: Sep 11, 2017 -
All depends on the motherboard manufacturers. We need their laptop designs first.sicily428 likes this.

A bit more work and they could get viable.

wow! so that could be real

This is not based on insider information, just the basics of having a mind share, a strong product and a decent price. -
Clevo should develop this project IMO
-
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
If I were a betting man I'd put decent money on them already having something in the works, I can't imaging them sitting on the sidelines for long. -
Ryzen is too promising for not developing a clevo beast with that IMO
a 8core cpu workstation with a powerful mxm gpu could be great!
I hope AMD and Clevo can find a good agreement -

Just have to wait it out I guess, but hope they drop something before coffeelake. -
Atm Intel is too under pressure for making things with a sense (reasonable things)Mr. Fox likes this.

A big thing for the market would be having a thunderbolt port hooked straight to the CPU, that's not going to happen though.

apple just makes that

I don't know that

Yes, Apple uses thunderbolt too, they don't own it however.

ok. I know AMD developed Xconnect technology. that is used by EGPU for working

what do you think about this?

Im worried that they will wait and see if the Asus iteration flops or not. If the GPU wasnt 4GB vram it might have more longevity which is what people might want to have from a soldered GPU so I dont have my hopes high even though I want it to do well so we can get more offerings.
-
I think clevo doesn't trust enough or asus has a sort of secret agreement with AMD
-
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
That makes sense, letting another company be the guinea pig. -
May be AMD used Asus like a money tree

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Until something official comes out it's all just speculation anyway.sicily428 likes this. -
I wanted ryzen in a laptop since I want more multicore performance. Ive been using the m4600 for a while so I can wait until we at least get 6 core laptops but I have no qualms with ryzen as long as the GPU is suitable for long term use
-
Now we just got to see if you can push more with an overclock.
hmscott likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Ryzen starts getting real hungry as you push it up.
TBoneSan and AZHIGHWAYZ like this. -
Yeah I wouldn't get my hopes up for even a moderately overclocked Ryzen Laptop. They just consume too much power to make it very viable. Maybe from some of the lower end CPU's but certainly not from the higher end parts.

Ain't that the truth

The quads should be fairly clockable.
I think AMD should do a hex core APU really targeted at notebooks.hmscott likes this. -
Support.2@XOTIC PC Company Representative
How likely is that for this gen? I recall reading some speculation on this earlier this year but hadn't heard anything since.hmscott likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I think they will want to focus on strong quad + GPU but I would like to be pleasantly surprised. -
Yeah very true, but people on the forums arent afraid to use dual power supplies to get what they want. The other question would be if the laptop could handle power delivery, recognize additional power supply capacity, and all that jazz. Just circles back to really wishing the VRAM was 8GB instead of 4GB.
The only game I play these days, R6 Siege can take 6GB VRAM on UltraHD textures which is what I would like to be able to do lol, cant do that on a 4GB card.
Hopefully we can get another offering with favorable configuration...hmscott likes this.
