A lot of people ask : What are KBC/EC firmwares?

KBC firmware : Keyboard Controller firmware is special firmware that provides interfaces to allow the CPU to communicate with PS/2 keyboards and mice. KBC, among other things, translates a keystroke on the keyboard into a numeric value that the CPU can identify.

EC firmware : Embedded Controller firmware is a special firmware that provides interfaces for the CPU to communicate with the system chipset.

:( , do you know any tools that can access and do H8 backup, so i can copy from another laptop?
Do you think clevo would send i to me?
What if i would try H8 firmware designed for different model? how dangerous that would be?
    Thanks

    Hi all,

I am looking for a newer firmware and BIOS update
    My notebook details:
    Sager NP5791 (Clevo M570RU manufacturer ver: CLEVO:M570RU-1.00.03cE)
    Phoenix TrustedCore(tm) NB
    BIOS Revision: 1.00.03cE
    KBC/EC Firmware Revision: 1.00.03
    BIOS Version: SROSA001.86C.
    07/31/2007

I bought my notebook at Evesham's store (UK) which is no more on the market being shut down. Where to look for BIOS and firmware? Can someone send me or provide links to get these updates?

    TA.

    Regards!

Cheers dude for a quick response :)
Hence to this I have to ask one more question to blow my doubts. It's concerning BIOS flashing, so, no one mistakes is allowed in that flashing process, isn't it.
Namely, the posted resources are for M570RU - Sager NP5793 but I have Sager NP5791 which comprises NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT GPU, Intel Centrino Duo [email protected] CPU, and 1GB Intel Turbo Mem card, the components that are different in Sager NP5793. Will that BIOS match up to my notebook?
And the last qustions. After a successful BIOS and firmware update, are there any requirements to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit RTM op. system or anything else eg. right settings in BIOS beore and after updates?
Is there any possibilities to boot up not from a prepared USB pen drive but from a SD Card plugged in the card reader?
    Many Thnxxxxx!

This BIOS & EC firmware are for all Clevo M57xRU machines including any branded Sager based on that Clevo model, so it's ok for your notebook.

After you update BIOS, you have to enter the BIOS settings, load default settings (F9 i think), save and quit BIOS, restart, re-enter the BIOS settings, change the OS in "advanced" to Vista and enable the ROBSON (normally this is the default i think), save and quit BIOS. There is no BIOS update to completely support Win7, but i think you should run Win7 without big problems.

Theoretically, it's possible to boot from SD card as long as you make it DOS bootable and save the BIOS & EC files on it. I have never tested SD card, but you can give your feedback to other members here :)

I've tried to boot from SD cards, but it appears that the carder reader is not bootable.

    Thanks a lot for your help :) :) :)
I appologise you guys! I was wrong thinking that I have Sager NP5791 model that is very very similar to mine. I have looked at the bottom of my notebook and seen on a sticker that it is not Sager, however, Clevo M570RU, but I have Evesham branded: Zieo NX600-HDS. Sorry for my big mistake. Evesham store has been shut down and I cannot get support anymore.
Couple days ago I searched on Internet by a key value: "Clevo M570RU", and this led me to the web-sites of Sager computers. I looked at each model carefully for similar hardware specifications, and model Sager NP5791 was identical to my Zieo NX600-HDS: the 17"screen size, CPU, GPU, Memory and timings. Even on a picture a chassis was looked identical to mine. So, I thought it was the right model. Once again, I apologise you. I am a newbe in this matter, but fortunately I found the right name of mine and this stopped me to update BIOS and firmware. That would led to the damage and the notebook worth nearly £1500 2 years ago would be thrown to bin, wouldn't it?
If I may still proceed the updates with no worries, let me know that.

    Best regards!

those updates for the M570RU are applicable to your notebook, the NP5791, 5792 & 5793 are minor hardware revisions (as are M570RU/M570RU-U/M571RU) and ALL take the same BIOS.

That's super news, I will flash my BIOS :)
If with success I let you know that. If unsuccessful, I would be not able to post this :)

Last question: I am not sure if my model comprises the second backup of BIOS (dual BIOS) in case of an unsuccessful update in order to be able to restore from this backup? If not, can I perform somehow the restoration in that case whenever happens? I mean a backup of my BIOS before updates

Please, confirm my steps from scratches:
    1. create bootable CD (I havn't got a USB mem stick) - I gonna burn CD-RW via PowerISO tool. But before this, I need to include to a project extracted files from zip files:
    1.a. 57RU_11.zip:
    - 57RU_11.WPH
    - PHLASH16.EXE (just a copy from one of two archives, because the same file is either in the both zipped files)
    - Refresh.BAT
    1.b. And from 57RUEC10.zip:
    - ECM57RU.10
    - Update.BAT
    2. Start PC from the bootable CD
    3. Run first Update.BAT, and PC should restart when job is done
    4. Boot up again from the bootable CD
    5. Run Refresh.BAT, then PC should restart after job is done
    6. Enter at this time to BIOS Setup by pressing F2 in my case, during booting up process
    7. Find and set "Load System Default", than exit with saving the changes option - PC will restart
    8. Enter again to BIOS Setup by F2 whilest booting up process
    9. Change the OS in "advanced" to Vista and enable the ROBSON, save and quit

    1. I found on the website http://www.allbootdisks.com/ many op. systems on ISO, and now I am confused, what an OS version is the best I should get to create a suitable bootable CD disk for flashing BIOS purpose? I found out that not all are good and some configuration in AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS may fail the BIOS update if some drivers are loaded that relay on BIOS resources.
    2. Need I power off the notebook after the BIOS update procedure is completed by removing battery pack and AC adapter, and plug in battery pack or AC adapter back after few seconds? In some places on internet I found there such instruction.

    Cheers!

    Thnx dude!

I have downloaded bootme.zip, however, it is for USB mem preparation with a boot system. I viewed MSDOS.SYS file from that archive in notepad. There is a line command: ;W98EBD so, I have found bootdisk on ISO from "WidowsME noram" from http://www.allbootdisks.com/ which has the same line in MSDOS.SYS file. I deducted that WinMe - noram boot system will be suitable and I have burned this on my CD-RW.
If it is wrong boot system to flash safely BIOS, let me know.
So only few steps left to comence these BIOS updates

All you need is to get in an MS-DOS environment and nothing else. From the sound of it, it looks like you are good to go.

I am still straggling with the bootable CD preparation, because, whenever I burn, after reeboting from this disk DOS cannot see new added files for flashing. Only original files are presented when I list disc source by DIR command. Something is tight with preferences settings but I have not got any clue what options should be set in the burning program. I am useing now MagicISO, where in File->Preferencess there is ISO tab. PowerISO hasn't got such options. What options should be chosen before burning disk?
    Regards!

I've found similar properties in PowerISO program. But, neither MagicISO nor PowerISO resolved the problem. I cannot see added files from DOS after boot up from CD, however I see these new added files in windows explorer when I view the disk source. Please for any advice what I am doing wrong?

I have absolutely no idea what you are doing wrong. Are you sure you are accessing the CD when you type "DIR" ? Try to put in the CD in windows and look on it with Explorer, if they appear there, then you are probably typing "dir" for the wrong drive.

You might be right, I should check Z drive, as it was probable assigned to. After re-booting I was on drive A:
    So, I gonna check this.

Deam it! It doesn't work!!!! The flasher shows message: "File Open failed on ECM57RU.10"
Maybe the file is corrupt? What is CRC sum check of the files to confirm I have got original and not damaged?
I prepared bootable disk accordingly to instructions on http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-cd2.htm

I don't keep the files on my laptop. It would all be easier if you would just make a bootable USB stick.

Neither do I! I have Windows 7 on C: and hence this, the partition is in NTFS, so, DOS cannot see my HDD
I copied and burned all the files on CD-RW main root. when I put dos command cd k: there DOS still prompts line A:\>
K drive letter is assigned to CDROM drive in my case. So, I preparet again bootable disk with the renamed bat files to "step1.bat" and "step2.bat" where I have added line: PATH A:\;K:\ in order to let DOS know where to search
Is it correct, because neither this helped me to run flash? Still the same window message :(
I haven't got a USB Pen Dive. I will have to buy one.

HURRRRAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!! That was the right hit on the nail!!!
    The machine is working!
Ive updated the first step and restarted, then, the second step and the notebook switched OFF after pressing any key :) Then I powered back ON and it's running.
Thanks Dude! Just "K:" - unbelievable, Ive straggled all the day hehe
I gonna test my laptop if its stable during work and gaming at high load :)
So far, Ive noticed that one LED is not lighting green. It relays to WiFi card. It's steel orange whatewer I do when switching ON/OFF the card ([Fn+F11] in my case), however, the connection to internet via WiFi - wirelesly with my modem/router - is acting well, hence I am with you to post this :) :) :)

In the relation to the M570RU BIOS and firmware updates, I wanted post here a solution for those who have encountered such the following symptoms like visible persisted hdd running non-stop even when system is idle in a time while you are expecting it to be, hanging processes, applications, and often entire system. At the beginning Windows starts slowing down after log-on, and its shutting down/restarting time was extended much much longer, in my case even around 5 minutes. These were happened to me after BIOS and EC/KBC updates, however, yesterday I just run Media Windows Player and watched HDTV movie in 1080p, being stored on my local disk saved in mkv format, without any problems. Nevertheless, today I have encountered the above symptoms and I have found out what might cause them. I just reinstalled most vulnerable drivers in my windows and all problems disappeared. Namely, these drivers are, of sure, Intel Turbo Memory and Intel Matrix Storage Manager, which I reinstalled. There might be more similar drivers like machine chipset driver, but so far, mine is running now with no problems and I have left them, by the time :)

    Good luck,
    Regards to all!

According to CLEVO, this BIOS is for the M770CUH series in addition to the W760CUH.

If you go to the drivers download section in Clevo website http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/Download.asp you will see these 2 series under the same category. Apparently, the 2 series has a lot of similarities.

YEap, you are right, I should start adding BIOS updates for the X8100 as it's phasing out the previous Clevo 18inch.

Any info on what's new in that updated BIOS. New machines shipping MIGHT have it but they might not :p

(Upgrading the raid firmware to support more than 2 drives would be sweet).

This is an emendation of my issue at #483...

First of all, I want to appologise all. I was wrong about the real source of these problems I wrote about in my last post, thinking, that the Intel drivers were guilty! Ive found out the real source of the problems that slowing down my computer and these don't relies to the BIOS updates. These symptoms, however, can happen to many of you and not only notebook owners. Namely the problem comes from Microsoft Windows 7 (all versions) update KB971003. You may find full description about this update by google it. If you have cracked Windows you may notice big drop down in windows performance all tasks and system load/shut down time after this update installation. Solution: Simple uninstall Windows crack activator/windows loader, then restoring backward to a trial version activation key, then find installed update KB971003 and if presented, uninstall it. Put this update to hide list to never install. Finally, activate your windows with the latest loader ver that you should update up to.
Personally, I use the latest RemoveWAT 2.2.5.2 from http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/10895-RemoveWAT-A-safer-activation-solution despite of a windows loader software, and it's working perfect like a charm!!!
Hope it will help those who got the same experience with windows 7 :) :) :)
    Best regards!

I've a question about KBC firmware:

"my updated Santech N48 ( Clevo M860TU) with italian keyboard, when it works in "DOS" mode, it does not recognize the Italian keyboard of my notebook, and special characters and symbols do not match. I recently updated my N48 with the latest SANTECH EC / KBC Firmware 0.13 and bios 1.02.17 on the front page ...
Firmware EC / KBC 0.13, exists in the Italian keyboard?!?"

NRG: I have no idea what to say, but Clevo does not have a KBC specially designed for Italian keyboards.

Updated initial post with X8100 BIOS. pkhetan, is there any EC for the X8100 ?

Well done. I just installed Win7 from CD and no problems as I had before and working like a charm with this newer BIOS I updated. I found another problem with my notebook :( It's indeed hdd fault. I just need a replacement on the free guarantee being still valid. When I start up my notebook after long time off, so, while being cold, hdd runs well by the time when starts knocking inside and all reading/writing processes are stacked up. Hence that, the time takes far longer to load system, all startup apps and services. It happens when notebook is cold, and if it occurres, I shut down the nbook. After a few seconds I turn it on back and hdd works with no symptoms of malfunction. What a freaky disk. Nevertheless, Ive reported the fault and I'll get a replacement.
Still likely using windows 7 ult, the best sexy OS for gaming, and not only ;)

    Regards

    NEW

Clevo has just release a EC firmware for the W76xSUB Series :

EC_02.zip : 1.00.02 - 2010/3/12 - Solve “sometimes system issues warning tone then shuts down during high temperature burn-in test” issue

    ftp://ftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W76xSUB/EC_02.zip

I know that this is not a common machine, but in case anybody need it, it's here.

    Hello,

I'am new at this forum. I'am using a XXODD M860tu (Clevo 860) as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for 1 and 1/2 years now. This works perfectly and I am quite happy with this notebook but since some time I noticed that systeminformation (XPpro) only sees 2.5 (2.49) from 4 G internal memory.
Lookin at this thread I saw that there might be a problem that is solved by upgrading the BIOS.
I am currently on 1.00.06 and the most recent is 1.02.17. I recieved the latest from XXODD but I read that it is necessary to upgrade to 1.00.08 first.
    I have two questions:

    1. Does this problem sound familiar to anyone in relation to the BIOS
    2. Does someone have the intermediate BIOS (link) for 1.00.08?

    Thanks very much in advance.

    @rachmaninoff

Just so you know, normally XP can only recognise a maximum of 3.2 GB of RAM because it is a 32-bit operating system. You need a 64-bit operating system in order to utilise all 4 GB.

However, you are saying your system is using 2.5GB, which should be in your case 3.2 GB. Updating the BIOS might solve the problem. However, I don't have the 1.00.08 BIOS but I will look around for it. If I don't find it, then pkhetan might help you there.

    P.S. I also like Rachmaninoff.
