You can. You just need an image file editing tool that will allow you to extract the hidden data from the ISO to your hard drive.

I used Smart Projects IsoBuster but you have to buy this tool as it's not free.

Well that's exactly the problem. If anyone else can do it please upload the content in a rar file so I can put in the first post. Credit will be given.

By the way, the latest EC for the D900F is still 1.00.03?

    Yes,

I`m a member from kobalt forum board.

I would try the ISO version of the BIOS first, see the below link for download.

    http://74.212.252.103/Sagernotebook/misc/928bv07cs.zip

I`m not sure how to apply the bios from my extracted one from the above bios download, as I originally used the ISO CD method to update my laptop.

Sorry Sylver, did not see your previous post. I will update the initial post now. Rep given accordingly.

I've made an edited version of Sylver's files with STEP1 and STEP2 included. However, I have no idea if what I have done will work, but I will post it here for anyone crazy enough to try it. If it works I will put it in the initial post as well.

What does this "Base on V4.1 and later version main board to support Arrandale CPU." mean in the W860CU BIOS of the first post?

Also, how would you know the BIOS revision of your motherboard if you don't have a graphics card installed yet? Example would be if you buy a barebone W860CU and planning on buying a 5870 but aren't sure if it is compatible with the current BIOS revision of the motherboard.

It doesn't matter. It should work even for older MB revisions, just that it won't affect your Arrandale support.

Oh, now I understand. I think you need at least BIOS 08 for your notebook to recognize the 5870.
If you bought your laptop after Feb. 2010 it should support the ATI without an issue.

    Sorry Kevin I don't know.

It's just a BIOS update, if you want to update the EC you need to download a previous release that has the latest EC.

Hello everyone, I would like to ask Pkhetan:

My laptop is a "Positive V146" in the BIOS test is written:

    CLEVO M550SE/M540SE
    BIOS revsion 1.00.09PO
    KBC/EC firmware revsion 1.00.03B

Which bios update should I do?

First "M5xSE_H805" and then the "M5xSE_13"?

    Cheers.
    Thank you very much!

As Clevo themselves haven`t released a 1.00.07 BIOS yet, only 1.00.06, it's more likely that Sager 1.00.07 release is based on 1.00.06 with some small changes.

If anyone could dig up more of the in between X8100 BIOS's and the change notes that'd be appreciated. My old machine was on the first revision 00/01 (not 02 as on the front page) whilst my current machine is on the latest 07.
I've got a few questions in regards to whether certain issues are caused by the BIOS's power management in later BIOS so I'd like to find out.

Also Im presuming later KBC BIOS (Im on 04) will be back compatible with older BIOS?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, the EC should be backward compatible with any BIOS.

    Hello,

Probably a stupid question, but always better than doing a stupid action...

Any chance the bios for the 900F might be compatible with 900C. I've read earlier in this thread that they tend to keep backward compatibility in their bioses, but dunno to which extent.

Assuming it is possible, would it be beneficial ?

My CPU fan seems to keep on turning a bit fast, and it seems 900f bioses offer better fan speed control.

    Thanks
    Nyth

I have purchase from Xoticpc a notebook Model 9820 last year during July 09 and the BIOS has never been updated yet. I'm using Window 7 64bit and have installed a Intel SSD drive and so far had no problems.

I notice on Sager they have a verision 1.00.07 and was wondering if that is ok to use instead starting a early verision first and just put ISO file on CD and just bootup to CD for installation.

I have done BIOS updates on Desktop with no problems.

Is this a link to the Sager site?

    It shows as: 74-212-252-103.static-ip.telepacific.net

    Is that you or Sager?

I tried mounting that ISO and don't see any files?

If its a premade ISO you often can't as IIRC they do something funny like put them in the boot sector, I've seen it before.

When I get my X8100 back I'll take a look at this, dependant on by turbo whether you mean it has the overclock functionality, or whether you mean it just allows you to switch turbo boost on and off.

I need the BIOS files separately to inject a 2.1 SLIC into it. I wouldn't change my BIOS except that the Turbo function seems a good idea.

Ok mate, here you go, just extracted it for you, repacked it as a rar, and have uploaded. It's not too common to stick all the files in the boot sector, so a lot of programmes dont have an option to deal with it, or deal with it properly :)

    Download X8100biosextract.rar

Once you've installed it, if you could let me know what options it unlocks, and whether it opens up the advanced options, that'd be appreciated :)

Thanx! It's factory, so there won't be much I imagine. That's why I don't usually mess with the BIOS much. But having the Turbo otion would make it possibly worth my while to take the time and effort to inject the SLIC into it.

I used a programme called WinImage. You basically have to load the ISO, then extract the boot sector as a seperate image, open that seperate image and then you can take the files out like you would with winrar.

Bit long winded but it worked :)
I did used to have a non-time trial based programme that did it properly but cant remember what it was called for the life of me.

Let me know what you find once you've had a play with it. Im interested in what the turbo option exactly does, whether its overclocking, or whether its just turbo boost.

The bios that we have reads the 920 as a 720 for overclocking purproses, have tried the .02 with OC options and the others, but they havent released one that fixes it

The oc options we have are labelled 1-4 adding 1-4x multi to the base clocks, the problem is the bios reads all CPU's as 720s even when you have a 920 so on OC4 it is actually running at stock

Turn off the oc options and it reverts to the 920 stock speeds. We know its not a CPU issue as they work in other models of laptop, just not with the x8100 bios

    really annoying

It will come with an EC update if it needs it and YES, you MUST install the KBC/EC update before the BIOS if it comes with one!
