You just need to flash straight to the latest EC, then the latest bios.

OK i did a BIOS update and EC update as the ones i had were ver 1.00.02 and 1.00.02. there now 1.00.09 and 1.00.04.

problem was i lost my hard drives after this, they where there but would not boot, comes up as a non raid disk so after i reinstalled win7 it seams back to normal.
i still get this press CTRL I to assign them and there listed still as a none raid driver's

in the bios where raid is i have tried to change it, but then it just will not load windows or install even with the intel drivers?

have i done it right to just leave my bios as raid and leave it, as is? even with the none raid drive coming up in the boot screen?

hope some one can help me get my laptop back up to speed.

o and i have the 3xST9250410AS hard drives

There are mediafire links on the first page :)

You'll usually need to burn the ISO to CD and then boot off it.

Hi, got an older Clevo M575U with T7400 and Geforce Go 7950GTX. Can´t find a BIOS younger than from 2006. Is it possible to use the BIOS from M570RU from the first thread ? Main problem is the cooler-noise. And all the links for the inofficial fan-patch are dead. Thanx !

Latest Sager version bios (.18s) in zipped .ISO format for the NP8690 (Clevo W860CU) should be available for download here:

    http://www2.sagernotebook.com/Sagernotebook/misc/869bv18s.zip

All the same rules and cautions listed on the first page of this thread apply here. Don't attempt flashing unless you know what you're doing and understand the risks.

I have been told (and read on other posts here) that this same bios works for the NP8760 as the motherboard is the same as the 8690. I have no personal experience with this and I mention it just in case somebody else can confirm and post here.

Sager tech says this bios does enable the 460m/470m to be recognised, but supposedly the .16s bios did as well, so I'm not sure what's different between the .16s and .18s versions.

I have an original Clevo W860CU and tried flashing my BIOS version 1.0.5 to the most recent 1.0.18 (using ftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W8xxCU/W86CU_BIOS18.zip).

I first applied the EC update and thus went from EC version 1.0.1 to 1.0.11 without problems. Rebooted and reset BIOS settings to defaults.

After that I called update.bat for the BIOS upgrade and got a warning from the phlash tool saying "You request to flash the BIOS image without validation" which I confirmed with "yes".
Then after some time and saying "MergeDmiInfo..." on the bottom line the tool stops with an error saying "Could not find BCP DMI block in BIOS ROM file image". After a reboot my BIOS version is still at 1.0.5.
I then tried upgrading to 1.0.16 (ftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W8xxCU/W86CU_BIOS16.zip), still the same error message.

Is this a known problem? Anyone else got this error message? Please help!

I'm not going to swear to it but there was something about having to upgrade to a certain version before being able to upgrade to follow-on versions. I'm thinking it was around 1.00.11 (EC 1.00.10) but am just speculating since I can't remember exactly.

I know I originally had the same version you have when delivered last Feb. I did the flash to 1.00.11 and then the next one I did was the .16 and now to .18 without any issues.

How are you handling the image after download? Unzipping and burning the ISO to a CD?

I had problems when I extracted the image and tried to use a bootable USB stick, then I had tried burning a CD and got the same thing.

You have to just burn directly from the ISO to a CD.

Yea they produce some oddly built ISO's that are only useful if burned onto a cd, we have had a heck of a time trying to extract files from them, USB opticals are nice for that :p

The files are found in the bootsector on the ISO. If you've got a tool that can extract that, you can get to the files to stick them on a bootable USB or similar :)

Absolutely but the tool they use (A really old version of Nero) does not make a Joilet based bootsector image, the FAT isn't quite what you would call standard, as the older tool kinda faked "larger than 1.44" boot images, thats what makes it kinda a pain to extract. If they would just update their tools we could just use 7zip to crack these things out :p

I can't - there is no ISO image provided by Clevo ;) just a zip with the files. I followed the instructions mentioned in the first post exactly to get a bootable USB key.

I was thinking about that, too, but didn't want to try all previous versions.
Now that you say you remember something similar I have hope that first updating to BIOS version 1.00.11 will succeed and enables me to upgrade to the most recent version afterwards.
One question remains: Now that I have already upgraded my EC firmware to version 1.00.11 is it safe to go straight ahead and update to BIOS version 1.00.11 or do I have to downgrade my EC firmware to version 1.00.10 first (the version released together with BIOS version 1.00.11)?

Don't get me wrong, you're right it's a PITA, I was just referring to the fact that it IS possible to get to these files, you just need software that can access the bootsector.

Being able to do it via Winrar/7Zip would be a lot easier!

You are usually fine to use LATER EC firmware with earlier BIOS, it's when earlier EC is used with later BIOS it can cause issues.

As you're on an earlier BIOS that wont have issue with either, feel free to downgrade the EC firmware first to the supplied one though if it makes you feel better.

Now I have tried upgrading to BIOS version 1.00.11 (keeping installed EC version 1.00.11) with no luck - still the same error ("Could not find BCP DMI block in BIOS ROM file image").
Is there any hint that downgrading EC firmware to 1.00.10 beforehand would allow my BIOS to be upgraded from 1.00.5 to 1.00.11 (and then to the most recent 1.00.18)?? I am getting the opinion that this would not help either... :(

Hmmm, keep the EC as the latest.

Try to put the 1.00.5 that's on this forum over the one that you have, see what happens?

Where did you buy your laptop from?

The Laptop is a Deviltech 9700 DTX ( DevilTech - High Performance Systems - _Home#) with Intel Core i7 Q820 and ATI 5870 graphics card. From what I know, there is no form of "branding" of the laptop's BIOS. I get the "StyleNote" splash screen when booting.

Now I did. They only said that Versions 1.00.11 (EC) and 1.00.18 (BIOS) from Clevo are correct.
That's what I assumed before. So I still don't know what the problem is. I will ask them about the specific error I am getting when trying to flash any version above my installed 1.00.05.

They took the BIOSes off that server as it was browsable, but they should still be available on the cftp, sftp and ftp servers

Darn, they don't even have an original Clevo sticker on the back... how about a picture of the motherboard. Some place which points for certain what model your laptop is. The number of the BIOS chip could be anything as far as I can tell, not necessarily the laptop model.

Usually the model number is under the RAM slots. But that's not necessarily the case.

From the looks of it, it does seem that your model is a Clevo M545S. So that's the BIOS you need.

in my case, I cannot turn on my notebook as an updated version of the wrong bios.
I will send my bios chip to be recorded on a recorder chip.
before this, I must still write the file first "EC"??
you can quickly explain what this file is "EC"?

Thank you all for your help ...

The EC files are designed for the most basic functions of your laptop. Like keyboard input for instance and how the buttons work.

    I have another doubt.
I know that sounds confusing but I'll remove the bios chip from the notebook and take you to a company that will do the recording using appropriate equipment.

In this company they told me the file (EC) is not compatible for recording with this device, but the file (M5xSE_13.zip) is compatible.

I think that will work only with the recorded file (M5xSE_13.zip), then I'll update including the EC with the notebook running.

    This will work?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to thank for all the help.
It is very gratifying to know that there are people with the patience to help others.
    God bless you...
