added support for AES-NI on i7-2630QM (and i7-2635QM and more?) :)

Edit: I guess only the processors i7-2630QM/i7-2635QM, i7-2670QM/i7-2675QM, i5-2430M/i5-2435M and i5-2410M/i5-2415M were affected, because the others were specified as AES-NI-compatible from the beginning.
So now all CPUs for that cpu socket are AES-NI enabled, i think.

See performance difference in attached benchmark results.
I'm not sure if there are more changes.
the changes to the other bios (like P150HM 1.01.14) are the same, I guess

AES is useful for applications that can take advantage of the instruction set. Programs like 7-Zip, Bitlocker, TrueCrypt, VMware, etc can get decent speed improvements with having AES enabled. If you do a lot of encryption/decryption or archiving, it's a nice benefit :)

    What's the difference between those 2 bioses : P17HM3_BIOS103 and P17HM_BIOS_108?

    Are there 2 P17HM models ?

    Edit:
ow i see there is a newer bios for the P17HM, but AES is already enabled for my cpu, I5 2520M, with the 108 bios.

    step2.bat -> Bios: Version 11 (1.01.11?)

    Thats because you had a 2720qm ;)

This just enabled a feature on the 2630 procs that was disabled before. It was more of an Intel software lock than anything.

I flashed my P150HM to BIOS version 1.14 from 1.11. Everything seemed fine until my next cold boot... I had to completely discharge the power from the laptop to get it to boot (disconnect power adapter and battery, plus reseated RAM). I guess I'll flash to version 1.12 instead...

I can't imagine the mobo being faulty. I just flashed the BIOS back to 1.12 and have had no problems since. The cold boot issue "black screen bootup" only occurred with 1.14. I'll test again later on tonight when my laptop will be off for several hours and try a new cold boot with 1.12.

I can confirm I had cold boot issues with 1.14. I've been running 1.12 all day with no cold boot issues. Anyone else with a P150HM experience that issue with the new 1.14 BIOS?

Or, more importantly, does anyone know what to do with the files when you have them as it seems to differ from the guide in the OP.

I have no idea what's up here. My laptop is too old to test these things.
It's up to you guys to figure things out. I'm sorry.

In the mean time, there are new BIOS files for P170HM and P150HM right ?

I need to make some mediafire mirrors for them in case Clevo decides to shut us out completely.

Please do be aware that we've seen in our testing that there is an issue with 08 that sometimes leads to fan cycling due to the temperature sensor (ambient) spiking to 100C for a few seconds and then going back down to correct, and doing it in normal intervals. Clevo is aware of said issue. We on our builds are sticking to 06 until this has been taken care of. We've also seen the laptop shut down due to this issue because it thinks is 100C for long enough to shut itself down. The laptop is not actually at 100C but its a bug in the EC code so it thinks it is.

Just wondering what Aptio tool are you using to figure out which EC it wants to talk to. We have the full suite for Aptio and we never stumbled on that code block, care to share? More like what tool you used (the procedure) not the actual tool itself.

That info wasn`t via Aptio sorry edit came a little late.

Open the bios in a text editor and there is a line in 1.01.0.03 that says: PRJ :p170HM$DATE: 2011/06/02$VER: 1.00.0 6$

    F.e. the same line in P170HM3 bios 1.01.0.02 versions said: PRJ :p170HM$DATE: 2011/03/18$VER: 1.00.0 5$

So where is EC 06, did i earn it? ;)

From the picture i don't see XTU, which line should it be ? (sorry if this is a dumb question).

Edit: Seems my bios need 06 as well PRJ:p170HM$DATE: 2011/06/02$VER: 1.00.06, someone please send it to me.

    Found it!

    P17HM_EC06.rar

Note that I only had the EC file, without the automatic dos files for flashing. I added the dos files from previous EC releases and edited them manually. Therefore I can't guarantee that it will work correctly, needs a bit of beta testing before I will add it to the main post.

I compared a few things from other EC files and bios files and i see this.

EC Firmware .05 has Afudos dated from 30-11-2010
EC Firmware .08 has Afudos dated from 27-05-2010
Bios 1.10 has Afudos dated from 29-06-2011

Why would they use different Afudos files each time ?, if i would flash i would use the afudos from Bios 1.10.

With that tool people like you and me may easily transform their machine into a paperweight... though if someone with the necessary background is serious about making us a custom clevo bios, then he/she is welcome to PM me. :D

I used the one with May 2010 AFUDOS because the EC is dated 1st of June and the other AFUDOS was released on 29th, so after the EC. ;)

I suppose it doesn't matter what AFUDOS you use then. Ok, I will put the link in the initial post.

I used to have fun with Pheonix BIOS Editor as well, but it doesn't read the BIOS correctly. You can however get some interesting info from it.

    THX for doing this! :D

Ohhh you got my hopes up for a sec...the BIOS 1.01.05 for P170HM3 does not enable XTU. :(

Flashed and also confirmed with BCP

A minor thingy: From BIOS 1.01.03 (including 03) onwards they use EC 06 ;)

But that's impossible. BIOS 03 was released in April or BIOS 07 was released in May while EC 06 in June.

Sorry about the XTU thing, I assumed that since BIOS 10 enables it for the P170HM then the latest BIOS should do the same for the P170HM3.

Really is a shame that Clevo is not enabling it. The P170HM3 is basically their flag ship in the "still-portable" segment.

The 03 Bios Information (DMI Table) shows 7/7/2011 and the EC06 as 5/11/2011 with CPU microcode updated 06/01/201, so EC is older than Bios. ;-)

    !!! :realmad:

Though there is one for the Sager model: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/416916-clevo-bios-thread-172.html#post7909578
