Wait, you are referring to the P170HM3, I thought you were talking about the P170HM.

I read several pages back and I'm confused.

What BIOS do folks recommend for the P170HM3? If you recommend it, please let me know if you've personally tried it before I go flashing.

    Thanks!

Bios 05 with EC 06! Links are in the first post. :D

ALWAYS UPDATE THE EC/KBC FIRST AND THEN THE SYSTEM BIOS.

Thanks, got it flashed up and seems to be rocking!

What is an EC/KBC by the way? I've always just dealt with flashing a BIOS in the past...

EC/KBC? It refers to the Embedded Controller(s). For example some updates of this might change the fans as to when they go on at certain temps and such. :)

Hello all. This issue, I flashed the 8150 with latest BIOS for clevo, now win7 x64 ultimate fall in BSOD with error 0x00000a5. Reinstalling and rollback to the previous BIOS does not help, what could be the problem? Or have I killed, "my beauty"?

No, you did not. As long as it passes POST screen the BIOS should be fine. It might be related to something else.

I would say its not the bios.

Anything else you change recently? New drivers or Windows updates, or new hardware etc? If so its probably that stuff.

Did you try reinstalling Windows, or just reflashing the old Bios? See if running repair from the Win7 install disk or doing a fresh Windows install will fix the errors.

I doubt it's dead. More likely would be with the new BIOS some of the hardware IDs changed slightly and Windows/Drivers errored loading.

Happened to me once before, once it restarted again it recovered itself. A Windows repair/reinstall should sort it out.

Many thanks to all. Found the cause. Old BIOS from Sager, which was flashed my laptop, kept SLIC2.1; new versions of the Clevo does not support them. So then get a BSOD. With RAM and HDD's all right, the problem is in support of SLIC2.1.

Had exactly the same problem, didn't boot (blank screen) after bios update to 1.14. Removing battery + power cable didn't work, only replugging memory made it boot again (strange but true).

I downgraded to 1.12 too, boots normal again. I am also using EC_12 from here ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/P15xHM/

You mean for EC .08 P170HM ? It's here on the forum, but I didn't put it in the first post because it's a bugged EC.

What are these mentioned bugs? Anything specific? I am interested in the modified fan tables, however I do not want to risk damaging or bricking my laptop if it's bugged in such a way.

Ah thanks for the information. I looked back all the way to page 172 to find some information, but I guess the talk about XTU caught most of my attention on page 174.
However, about these modified fan tables, have the 'spinning-up-and-spinning-down-constantly' been fixed and can we perhaps expect this in a newer version without the mentioned issues?

Do these BIOS from Clevo include the EC/KCB? If I update my W150HR to this BIOS_107 do I need to update the EC first as the directions on Page 1 of this thread state that you should do?

My W150HR is a Clevo laptop and not a Sager, the LT came directly from Clevo.

If you updated it and it works then it's all fine. But you should update the EC/KBC to a newer version if you find it necessary.

It must not be. I booted with the USB, got into the folder with the files, typed both updateEC.bat and step1.bat and both commands returned a bad command error message.

Where do you get an updated EC from?

If I update the BIOS I want to update the EC at the same time.

I did not try flashing the BIOS with update.bat, updateBIOS.bat or step2.bat since I want to do the EC and the instructions on the first page of this thread say to do the EC first.

    For Clevo P150HM ONLY:

Bios firmware .13 and .14 should be avoided. Please stick with Bios and EC .12. Blacky, can you please put a note with these two releases? As a result of installing this firmware, the user has to change the hardware configuration (e.g. removing memory module) on his/her machine after every boot and causes intermittent hiccups when processing tasks.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Yea, it was quite a few more for us than just one, however, its not 100% either. If you find the fan cycling you can always drop back to 06.

Where can I get a link to the latest EC for a W150HR?

I got BIOS_107, but no EC is included.

Or do the commands on the first page of this thread still apply, updateEC.bat and updateBIOS.bat?

    Hi,

    i have a new P170HM with a 2760qm and a GTX580M.
Bios is 1.10, EC 08. I Have 2 Problems while the PC is idle.
The GTX580 fan speeds up every 1-2 Minutes. Otherwise you cant hear it. Might this be related to the EC08 problem or is it normal that the GTX580 fan speeds up from time to time on windows desktop. I have nothing installed besides of win7 64 bit.

Next bigger problem is the CPU-fan. It's always running and very loud. Might it be that the 2760qm is still not supportet correctly? I think the CPU-fan should stay still in idle.

Last but not least i have a problem with the tv-tuner-card. I installed the driver but i can't see the card in device manager. Is there a secret key i have to press to activate the tv tuner? (like Bluetooth, or Fn+1, Fn+5) ?

    Thanks in advance!

    Lomax

I don't think they are so much deny'ing it as I think they don't have a good sample, and you have to remember this isn't something that you can just tell you actually have to let it run for a little bit with some monitoring on it.

To the guy that has the 580M cycling issues, get a demo copy of HWMonitor or something like that and then log the temps while it sits idle and goes through a fan cycle, then look at the graphs, you will be able to instantly tell where the issue is if you are having the same kind of cycling we saw. You will see one of the graphs spike up to 100C for no good reason every few minutes.

    @bonnie.clyde

Thanks, but ist does not work. Seems to be a defektive tunercard, because the shop also told me (as far as they know), that there is no need for a special activation.

    @Prema

The revision of the gtx580m is 70.24.26.00.01. Bios Build Date is 04/20/2011.
I just checked the Degrees with HWMonitor. The fan of the GTX 580m begins to spin after the GPU reaches 41 Degree. It cools down to 37 Degree, clims up to 41 degreee and so on. VEry Anoying, because the fan spins up every 1-2 minutes.

The CPU (2760qm) is araund 40 degree, when the fan begins to spin. If i hold the fans manually the degrees of the GPU and CPU are roundabaout 50 degrees in idle. Nothing to worry and it would be nice if they spin up at rates higher 55 degree.

Same Problem persits witch EC 06 and EC 08. Bios is 1.10.

Found out, that i dont have the 100 degree problem with EC 08 and the GTX580m.

    Hi, I'm using a Clevo P150HM with BIOS 1.01.11 and EC 1.00.11.
There are two issues with it that might be bios/firmware related:

    1. The touchpad can be disabled by pressing Fn+F1. However it is automagically reenabled when the machine wakes up from suspend.
    2. One of the USB ports can provide power (for charging a mobile phone, say) when the machine is off but still connected to the power brick. My computer is rarely off though, but suspended when I don't use it, and in suspended mode there is no power available.

I noticed in the first post that there are later versions of bios/firmware available, but it is apparently unknown what was changed.

If anyone reading this has the latest version, could you please check if any of the problems above are adressed? Could either of them be an OS issue (using Ubuntu 11.04)?
