    i like how you start talking wise then change everything to whole another level, as you talking about AMD everyone will think it's the worlds saver but is not, i had 7970m too but will never forget the BSODs, freeze and shutdowns i had in my system (that all cost me nervousness and bad time thinking why i payed for 7970m and etc..).. oh good on AMD that it fixed the drivers but wait! that was after 8 months of their top end mobile GPU was released.. end of the day i switched to 680m and since then i feel i came back to live believe me, i also having some more futures that i really love like 3D 120Hz,physics etc.. for performance the 680m overclocked with vbios method its even faster than the upcoming Radeon 8970m so far not even 7970m.. am talking my own experience about those two cards not because i like a brand and hate the other.

    Even though AMD was partially responsible for the initial driver problems, the company still put out 13.1 WHQL for us. It took a while, but it is better to listen to the customer and make a change than not make a change at all. That is why I called AMD a savior.

    There's also a EC with a newer date. By the version number seems the same but don't know if it's something fixed

    I flashed it to my P151EM, and I think it has more aggressive GPU fan profile, it kicks in at higher speed & sooner, leading to lower temps.

    I wonder if mySN originally uploaded EC for P170EM (it has lower fan speeds), and now corrected it?

    Is there a change log somewhere? I really want to know if it's worth the update. My current .12/.14 already has a pretty aggressive fan profile.

    I would kill for a CONTROLLABLE fan profile. Something that works with Afterburner, etc. Sure, i have the FN_+1, but i would prefer to run 70-80 and only full speed if needed

    I don't think its worth to update to that. The fan profile in this bios is not good at all - it kicks in aggressively, but then allows GPU to reach 90 degrees in Kombustor

    Fan profile in Prema modded BIOS is much better, lot quieter initially, and GPU tops at 85 degrees

    Wondering if I could get some BIOS advice for my p170em. I received mine in June 2012. Never updated anything BIOS related. I emailed my re-seller the other day and was sent an ISO file, which I burned to disc and installed. I am now at BIOS revision 1.00.07LS1 and KBS/EC\firmware revision 1.00.05.

    According to the first page of this thread, there have been several updates since the versions I was just given by my re-seller. Can anyone tell me if it is worth it to try upgrading to EC/KBC V 1.02.12 and BIOS V 1.02.14, which seem to be the most current?

    Also, I've read a little about modded BIOS. Is there any ones out there that are safe and worth upgrading to? Someone mentioned a Prema modded BIOS above that might be better for cooling, not sure of what else is out there. Also, do I need some sort of special BIOS to overclock? I was reading I need a modded BIOS to use XTU to overclock my i7 3720qm.

    afaik the prema mod is the only reliable bios mod out there for clevo machines :)
    amd no, u dont need a modded bios for ur p170em in order to use the limited xtu ocability of ur 3720qm cpu (+400mhz are possible, above that the multi is locked).
    among other stuff, the newer bios/ec revisions brought up to an additional hour of battery life with them iirc.

    Thanks for the info! I might want to check out one of the latest revisions then. Up to an additional hour of battery life sounds pretty good. Is there a reliable source to download the newest Sager BIOS/EC since my reseller is sending me much older versions? Also, can you point me in a direction to find out about overclocking with XTU? Not sure where to access it, if there's other software I need to download, etc.

    u can always go ahead and check out our resident clevo bios thread here on nbr :) (hint hint :p) also, using xtu is pretty straight forward, just download the newest version from the intel website and go from there. for some additional info u can check out my 2960xm oc thread linked in my signature :)

    @rafaelcoe you are now up to date!

    To go back to your vendors version you will have to ask them to send you the latest EC & BIOS and flash EC first then BIOS.
    EDIT: nvm, thought you have a NP9570 3D

    Yea I read a lot of it. Just a little wary of doing anything that might brick my laptop so I'll take as much advice as possible. I ended up doing the latest BIOS and EC/KBC updates listed on the 1st page of this thread. I'm now at EC/KBC 1.02.12 and BIOS 1.02.14. In the end it wasn't that difficult. Never made a bootable usb but followed the guide linked on the first page. This was my first time doing any sort of bios/ec updating, so the sudden shut offs and reboots during their installs sketched me out. I was particularly worried after doing the bios when the start up image showed a "style note" image. I just diabled it in the boot options and it now shows the american megatrends image. Everything seems to be running fine now. As for the XTU, never did that before either, but I downloaded the software and maxed out the core multipliers so it now shows my max turbo frequency as 4ghz. I see there are a lot of other things that I can play around with, like core current limit, turbo boost short power max, and turbo boost power time windows, but I'm assuming I'd need the xm cpu to mess with that stuff. If I am able to mess with that stuff, is there anything you'd recommend I change? Also, just want to make sure, but do I need to be concerned about any heat issues with this slight OC? From what I've read, the p170em has adequate cooling for this.

    Thanks again for the help

    I have a NP9150 with the following EC and BIOS:
    KBC/EC = 1.00.07 SA
    Bios = 1.02.10LS1

    I saw in page 1 of this thread the latest (as of Nov 2012) is:
    KBC/EC = 1.02.12
    Bios = 1.02.14

    I downloaded these and tried to do an update after booting in DOS from a starup CD but when I try to run the .bat files, I get an error message that AFUDOS.exe could not be run or could not be found. :It is giving me an error "AFUDOS.exe can not start or run due to incompatibility of 64 bit version of windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if 64-bit windows compatible version is available." I checked the files and they are complete. I am running WIn8 64 bit. I tried booting with both 32 and 64 bit CD and went into DOS mode but it won't work. Seems like AFUDOS isn't getting recognized.

    How do I do this then? Also is my bios and EC still updateable? I noticed that the fan under my current bios and EC isn't aggressive that is why I thought of updating to fix this problem.

    Any ideas or help guys?

    Thanks.

    =============
    Update:

    I finally was able to update my NP9150 to the following:

    EC: 1.02.11SA EC
    Bios: 1.02.17 Sager

    My only problem is that the Fn/Win keys got switched and the BT light is always on. Does anybody know how to fix this? I noticed this when I first updated my EC.

    I am running Win8Pro 64Bit.

    For the Fn/Win keys I just physicaly switched them around so now my keyboard is fixed. However the "always on" BT light is another story altogether and I read somewhere it is something related to the EC update. I'm just using the regular stock LAN card that came with the NP9150. Any fix out there for this issue?

    I found this on the Sager website forums. Perhaps a solution to your Killer 1202 problem and the BT.

    "If it matters, the Sager I ordered has the Killer N1202 + Bluetooth.

    /edit
    Solved: for anyone who also has this problem: apparently I was browsing around my computer and all I had to do was run the Bluetooth_x64 to install Bluetooth Suite (which for me was in C:/Program Files/ Bigfoot Networks/Killer Network Manager)."

    Is it only my subjective impression or are the fans from my p150em with the 1.02.17 bios more quiet in idle/office mode?

    4. Hold the “Fn” + “B” keys
    5. Power on system while continuing to hold Fn+B. (The system will power off and power back on)

    Either recovery is disabled on that model or the recovery partition is bricket, too. Maybe try different USB ports.
