Please could someone help me with an issue

I have a Kobalt Computers W870CU and I am trying to get a 2tb HDD working in the 2nd drive but the BIOS does not see it. It worked fine with a 1tb drive but has since died. I was wondering if a BIOS update would resolve this issue. I cannot find any details of any BIOS fix for this issue.

According to System Information my BIOS version is

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
    Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    System Manufacturer CLEVO CO.
    System Model W870CU
    System Type x64-based PC
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 820 @ 1.73GHz, 1734 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
    BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies LTD CALPELLACRB.86C.0000.X.0000000000, 27/09/2010
    SMBIOS Version 2.6

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Hi,

I'm on the stock bios: 2.17.1246 (Embedded Controller 255.255) on my P650SE.

When I turn on my PC (power button) it hangs on the BIOS screen (I disabled the logo) for a while (10-20 seconds) and I cannot enter the Setup menu. Then it boots to W8.1.

When I "Restart" my PC- it the bios works perfectly (fast and can enter setup).

    Can someone please assist? Thanks

For some reason Clevo machines don't like having the logo disabled. On mine if you disable the logo, you can't even re-enable it without resetting BIOS to defaults and setting everything back up again. Have you tried holding down F2 after you push the power button? That's what I have to do or start slamming away at it when the back light on the display comes on. They really should hide that nasty feature...

It could also be the hybrid shutdown mode that Windows 8.1 uses. If you choose to shutdown the computer, it partially hibernates and uses fast boot when you turn it back on. If you hit restart, you get a full reboot. Anyway it has been known to cause issues. Look at this page

Hi, just for the record, in case anyone wondered:
the newest BIOS 1.03.06 intended for the W650SZ (thx Palkeo!) can also be used with a vanilla W670SZQ (coming from 1.03.05: first, upgrade the EC firmware with E0306.zip, then flash the bios with B0306.zip). Everything works flawlessly.

I have been looking at the official files over at xmg and those does not include a readme file, which i thought was a bit strange.

But then maybe it's a better idea to go for one of your BIOS Prema? I've seen them mentioned everywhere! Are there any cons over official BIOS?

    I will work on it.

Edit: the best I can do is clean up the HTML. Generating a whole new table would take hours and I can't find a way to directly convert HTML to BBCode when it comes to tables.

This is what I was able to pull out with a generator.

THIS THREAD IS FOR CLEVO MODELS WHICH ARE CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION.

Current supported models in this thread:

FOR OLDER CLEVO MODELS (RELEASED AFTER 2012) WHICH HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED AND THUS NO LONGER RECEIVE BIOS UPDATES YOU SHOULD CHECK THIS THREAD: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-bios-older-models-released-after-2012-a.html

FOR OLDER CLEVO MODELS (RELEASED BEFORE 2012) WHICH HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED AND THUS NO LONGER RECEIVE BIOS UPDATES YOU SHOULD CHECK THIS THREAD: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/556299-clevo-bios-older-models.html

Before reading this thread, please know that this thread should not exist in the first place. While the option to email your Clevo reseller and ask for the latest BIOS is considered now the official policy of obtaining the latest BIOS, it should be noted that Clevo is the only major notebook manufacturer that has such a policy. My opinion alongside that of other users which have posted in this thread is that a reputable notebook manufacturer like Clevo should make BIOS updates publically available.

    *DISCLAIMER*

IF YOU HAVE A FRIENDLY CLEVO RESELLER THAT CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH THE LATEST BIOS I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO GET THE BIOS FROM HIM RATHER THAN FROM THIS THREAD.

IN CASE YOU MANAGE TO BRICK YOUR MACHINE BY TRYING TO FLASH YOUR BIOS I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUCH AN OUTCOME. BY PROCEDING TO DOWNLOAD ANY OF THE BIOS POSTED IN THIS THREAD AND UPDATING YOUR SYSTEM BIOS AND KBC/EC WITH SUCH A BIOS YOU AGREE TO THIS RULE.

How do I flash the BIOS ?

First you need to get the latest BIOS, generally you should do this by emailing your reseller for it. IF this is not possible then you can still download it from this thread. The BIOS comes either as an ISO or as an archive. The BIOS is made of two parts, a system bios and an EC/KBC.

The latest BIOS will always contain all the updates of previous BIOS releases.

ALWAYS UPDATE THE EC/KBC FIRST AND THEN THE SYSTEM BIOS.

FOR Clevo BIOS and mods and related stuff, you can check this page: http://premamod.com

    How to update:

Method I (using a USB stick)
If the bios is an archive then this is what you need to do:

    1. Make a bootable USB stick using zfactors guide available here: how to flash your bios with dos using a usb stick:
(Alternatively you can make a bootable CD).
    2. If you have the BIOS and the EC/KBC files in separate archives or in separate folders, copy them to the USB stick but keep them separate, don't mix their files in the same folder. If they come in a single folder/archive then copy them as they are, in a single folder.
    3. Now restart your laptop and boot from the USB stick.
    4. If all goes well you should now be in DOS mode. Type dir to see the folders you have on the USB stick. Now navigate to the folder where you have the EC/KBC files, type cd to get inside the folder.
    5. Once you are in the folder with your EC/KBC files, type update.bat. If you have your EC/KBC files in the same folder with the rest of the BIOS files, then type step1.bat or "updateEC.bat" or "ECFlash.bat". If you are uncertain what to run, read the Readme.txt included in the archive, or ask here in the forums.
    6. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    7. Once this stage is complete, boot again from the USB stick.
    8. Navigate to the folder where you have your BIOS files.
    9. Type update.bat to update the BIOS. If you have your EC/KBC files in the same folder with the rest of the BIOS files, then type step2.bat or "updateBIOS.bat" or "flashme.bat". If you are uncertain what to run, read the Readme.txt included in the archive, or ask here in the forums.
    10. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    11. Your Done.

Method II (using an ISO file)
If the BIOS you have downloaded is an ISO file.

    1. Burn the ISO to a CD.
    2. Now restart and boot from the CD/DVD.
    3. If all goes well you should now be in DOS mode. Type dir to see the folders you have on the USB stick. Now navigate to the folder where you have the EC/KBC files, type cd to get inside the folder.
    4. Once you are in the folder with your EC/KBC files, type ECFlash.bat. (the name of this file may differ, it can be update.bat, flashme.bat, etc.) . If you are uncertain what to run, read the Readme.txt included in the archive, or ask here in the forums.
    5. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    6. Once this stage is complete, boot again from the CD.
    7. Navigate to the folder where you have your BIOS files.
    8. Here you need to type the name of the ".bat" file that automatically flashes your BIOS. This name can differ from BIOS to BIOS, it can be: "update.bat", "updateBIOS.bat", "flashme.bat", etc. If you are uncertain what to run, read the Readme.txt included in the archive, or ask here in the forums.
    9. Wait for the system to be flashed, it should reboot automatically once it is done. If it does not, then give it some time, make sure the system has finished the flashing otherwise you will brick your laptop.
    10. Done

!!!In the attention of all Sager users!!!
It is strongly recommended that you keep to a Sager branded BIOS, therefore just email Sager if you want a BIOS update, they will email you back with the latest version. The reason why this is recommended is because, while you can flash a vanilla Clevo BIOS on a Sager laptop, trying to flash back to a Sager BIOS MIGHT BRICK your laptop and you will have to pay to have it
    fix.

There is a method however that might allow you to flash a Sager BIOS over a Clevo one, but this method is very risky and should only be used if absolutely necessary. More here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/675141-clevo-bios-sager-bios.html#post8678736

It is not recommended to downgrade any Clevo/Sager BIOS to any previous version. Any such attempt might brick your laptop.

I just wanted to let everyone know that you can no longer download Clevo BIOS from http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/esupport/MarketDLOut.asp?model=M57xTU=GO=BIOS

It is cleaner to read at least without the tags everywhere. BBCode doesn't support complex tables that you can get with HTML so even if a new table was made, it would be a mess. The easiest solution I can think of would be to host the table off site and link it in the post. I will ask the admins about it as well.

Thank you Ethrem. I have already tried to clean it like you showed above and I am not happy with the result. What would a table supported by the correct code look like? Just so I can get an idea. I am willing to try and manually convert all my 3 BIOS threads if I have to. I just need a solution to make it look nice.

As far as I can tell, BBCode doesn't let you customize the size of the table so it would be a mess. I shot you a PM. I have no idea why the P570WM table doesn't want to cooperate though, I did a quick inspection and the code looks just like the code for the rest of the tables.

Its an issue that is on the list of things to fix, I'd hate to see you have to put in a ton of work on it.

No changelog, but they appear to update Haswell microcode 1C => 1D at the least.
Also "GPU Performance Scaling Enable/Disable" option appears under Advanced Chipset Control. Not sure what does this control exactly.

"GPU Performance Scaling" is not XTU setting, its setting in BIOS setup (under Advanced Chipset Control).

I know that. I was wanting a comparison of available settings in the stock bios compared to the current option for a bios other than stock, prema's bios' options, specifically the ones available in XTU.

My Mod already uses 1D microcodes...XTU and Throttlestop have less options (with all stock BIOS) and that new NV switch is if you want to block GPU overclocking...ENJOY the new stock BIOS! :p

Oh and the changelog was something along the lines of "Improve LCD compatibility". ;)

Also new ECs (currently EC v6 and EC2 v3) are coming, but still in beta stage...

It isn't a problem at this point...its just that they are prepared to block OC on 3 levels at any time:

    - driver
    - video BIOS
    - system BIOS

I can only remove it from the later two...

And guess what, recent desktop vBIOS got the OC block bit as well, its just the driver ignoring it at this point...

EDIT: Yeah there is also plan B to flash fixed voltage & clocks as long as we can still flash...

So what this BIOS switch "GPU Performance Scaling" means?
If it "enabled", does this mean that "overclocking is *allowed*"? And if its "disabled"(default), it disallows overclocking?

    EDIT:

If it is enabled then the vBIOS can be OCed +135Mhz (if the vBIOS has NO lock bit AND the driver also supports OC).
This switch is functional for P-series model, but not W-series.
Also unlike Clevo BIOS, the recent Sager P-series BIOS do not have the switch to re-enable OC...

i just got a p157sm-A clevo the eurocom x3 r2, it has bios 1.03.09 & kbc/ec 1.03.08 & me fw version 9.1.0.1120 on it which are 2015 versions, the last prema mod is from sept 2014, would prema mod flash fine & be able to flash back to stock? i read on this forum about some models unable to flash from version A to version B once the ec passed a certain version or it bricks so id rather ask before trying..

If you use Prema's packages and follow the directions to the letter, there is no more risk of a brick than any other system BIOS flash. The biggest key is to make sure when the machine powers itself off after it flashes the EC to unplug the power cord as the instructions state.

Last I heard Prema is working on new mods but the old ones still work fine. It is also a myth that you can't flash older system BIOS or you'll brick. The brick comes into play if you don't follow the directions and screw up your EC. Prema streamlined the flashing process through a series of batch files so it is not easy to mess it up.

With that said, it is always at your own risk and there is always a risk when flashing the system BIOS. It will void your warranty if anything goes wrong and the repair is not a cheap one (I've heard as much as 400 bucks) so proceed with caution.

-150 is no post. -140 gets to desktop or login screen then locks, -130 seems stable but may lock randomly at desktop when theres a spike in cpu use (its the turbo speeds doing it), i skipped the rest to -100 & its prime95 (latest version using fma3) stable 12hrs+ & linpack 12hrs+ (latest version), games

    i have the i7 4710mq

Well i guess that it is not surprising to see a 4710 do it. My 4940mx has a 3.3GHz base clock (chip spec is 3.1 but Clevo puts it to 3.3 out of the box) that it needs to maintain and turbo up to 4GHz

    Hello guys,
I need some help with my clevo w310cz.
    I went to http://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/W310CZ/New_FW.zip

    and flashed my bios fine.

After that i saw on the site another update http://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/W310CZ/B0305.zip

But it seems that this bios is not for my laptop and it was an error from the webmaster. it is already down on the website but i have a copy i can send to someone.

I have a raspberry pi that i used before as a spi flasher but now i do not know what files to use.

I have these 2 bios chips:
    mx25l3206e (4Mb) and mx25l1606e (2Mb)

I also have some soldering skills and can take out the chips from the board without problem. Can someone help me?

PS:I cannot recover with the fn+8 method.

    Thanks

Try this file for FN+B method (do NOT rename):

    ***

PM me the bios, let's see what you flashed there...

(mx25l3206e is the BIOS chip, but you would need a running dump from a same model to reprogram it)

OK, you flashed an A110SUC BIOS to your board...but your board at least still uses the correct EC so worst case you will be able at least reprogram the chip with the backup you made before. :)

Before you start soldering, try to rename your 123 dump file to:

    A110SU027.rom

    or

    W310CZ023.rom

    and retry the FN+B method!

    Hi,

I've noticed that since I partitioned my primary drive (X110 SSD drive)- the bios is very slow to boot up. This only happens on cold boot (and when I restart my computer).

I partitioned it into an EFI partion to load Clover (an OSX bootloader). GPT/UEFI boot is setup.

Aside from removing the partition, is there anyway to 'speed' up the bios process?

I recently put PremaMod's bios on but it has not sped things up at all.

    Thanks

Hi again, tried everything and even took out the bios chip and flashed my backup. Nothing no power, no fans.
Only think that happens is that the charger light blinks 2 times green when i press the power botton and after stays again orange.
Could you please tell me what files i need to exactly flash to the ec chip and to the bios chip?
