all i wanted is to go back to sager bios .just followed the steps provided by sager to flash it, Not aware that flashing sager bios over clevo one will brick it.

Its just weird that sager laptops dont have bios recovery (as told my sager rep)

Hi, I'm just wondering if there are any BIOS mods or a Prema mod for the P650RE series.
I've had trouble modding it myself and AMIBCP v4.55 keeps crashing on me...

By the way, in case you're interested, I'm getting a Sager NP8657-S laptop. I like the look of it and the slim design so that's why I got it.

Any idea what causes this? It seems weird that sager->clevo->sager blows up considering that sager is a clevo with a brand stuck on it.

It has nothing to do with Clevo Vs. Sager version. They sent you the latest BIOS without the new EC.
That system can't boot with old EC 1.03.xx and new BIOS 1.05.xx...
Always update the EC first, then only the BIOS.

    @Siberianhusk Here's a mirror/repository of vanilla Clevo BIOSes/manuals: http://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/P6xxRx/

The current version of the BIOS is 1.05.12, released on January 22nd, 2016. It does not contain any new Intel/security improvements except for the Trusted Platform Module (which really doesn't matter that much, you can disable it with a BIOS modification using AMIBCP v5.0.1).

The Sager NP8657-S is based off of the Clevo P650RE3 which is a unified line of laptops (it goes along with the P6xxRA/P6xxRG/P6xxRE6 laptops). The only thing that Sager (and other ODMs[1]) add is a boot logo to their BIOS to customize it [2].

[1] ODM = Original Design Manufacturer (such as Sager, Eurocom, Prostar, or XMG; not to be confused with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) of which examples would be MSi or Asus, etc.)
[2] Thank you EmberV for telling me this :D
I helped another user out btw.

[3] EC = Embedded Controller (controls the keyboard illumination, fan, temperature sensors, special ODM[1] keys, and other low-level hardware of the laptop) -- in this case, people were probably flashing the EC from another Sager laptop or another incompatible ODM[1] of laptops.

wow thanks for the info I was looking everywhere but now this arises a new question. I recently installed new hyper fury x ram and if the slots under the keyboard are filled my laptop won't boot up so I have to use the 2 slots from the backpanel. People have been telling me to update the BIOS but it seems the BIOS adds nothing new. what should I do? (thanks in advance and for the info on this BIOS. I appreciate it.)

I don't think the resellers are ODM or OEMs, IMHO they are resellers of an OEM products (of which clevo is the OEM) and happen to rebrand or not. AFAIK the resellers are neither designing nor manufacturing any of the products, to the point that you receive the same packaging from all of them and the picklists are the same. Calling them OEMs or ODMs is like giving that name to Target for putting your Tide in a branded bag for your purchase. =) My vote is VAR.

Only update the BIOS if you want to. You should probably wait for Sager to post BIOS updates for that model if you are returning/RMAing the laptop soon and want to keep the Sager warranty, or at least create a backup of your current BIOS so you can flash back to it later on.

Sure, you can get the system fully modded from a Prema Mod Partner shop:

    https://biosmods.wordpress.com/partner/

On P6xxRx just make sure to order a unit with 6700HK...other CPUs are all locked by Intel but you still get unlocked GPU/RAM etc...

Hey, does anyone know if there is a bios mod for the clevo n150rf. cpu is fully locked and gpu can only increase core +135. There is also no turbo boost for the cpu in 3d applications.

    Hello guys !

I want to update the bios of my clevo P751DM-G for one reason : sometimes my computer won't turn off or go into standby, the screen turns off and I can hear the fan that continues to be on. So i had to force it to turn off. Once, I didn't realize that the computer was still on and I put it away in my backpack. One hour later I open my bag and the computer was extremely hot I was very suprised that the computer do not turn off itself when it's too hot ...

Sometimes when the computer gets to the Sleep and I try to turn it on again the screen is black and I have to force to turn it off to use it again.

    My bios version is 1.05.01.

So I have some questions :

    - What is the good process to update the bios ? ( I heard that some people brick their computer by trying to flash the bios without updating the EC/KBC first)
    - What is the EC/KBC ?
    - Where can I find the EC/KBC ? ( I find one in palkeo's repo, but I'm not sure about it)
    - When it is necessary to update the EC/KBC ? (I read in the forum that it's not always needed)
    - Did there is a different bios for P750DM and P751DM ? In palkeo's repo the latest bios's version is 1.05.09 and it 's written that it's only for P750DM/-G/P770DM/-G and the only one bios that is compatible with my computer is the EC 1.05.03 for P7xxDM/-G and if I understand it's not the bios but the EC. (I read in the forum that the only one difference between P750DM and P751DM is the color of the aeration grid so why did there is a difference with the bios ? Or it's just a written mistake ?)

    Thanks !

I am working on my Bosses P157SM (not SMA), and it has the original BIOS on it (1.00.01) and /had/ the original EC firmware (1.00.1) as well. The problem I am running into, is trying to flash the BIOS forward to one of the latest, 1.03.01 . We found the 1.03.01 package on the Clevo Mirror and downloaded it, and flashed in pure DOS. The EC flash worked fine, but the BIOS keeps returning a mismatched Bios ID. I have two ROM files in the BIOS flash directory, one is P15sm.301, the other is P15sm6m.301. Both of them are giving me the ID mismatch errors in their own way (one is a string of flash commands.)

    The System has the IDs:
    ROM ID = P150SM
    ROM GUID = b5c59087-feac-4b41-9d80780ba5aa070f

The Rom File p15SSM6M.301 has the IDs:

    ROM ID = P150SM
    ROM GUID = 76183244-c0c1-469a-acb9bd90ca0f0f87

and the Rom File P15sm.301 has the IDs:

    ROM ID = P150SM
    ROM GUID = 76183244-c0c1-469a-acb9bd90ca0f0f87

The question is.. Would it be safe to override the ID check and force the flash, or am I going to brick this board by doing so? This is the only system of this model that we have in house, and getting replacement boards for this is rather hard at this time.

Not sure you've got the right file; last version is v1.03.05 and extracts as 'P15SM.303'. Also make sure to flash the latest EC first, prior to flashing the bios; v1.00.06.

If these too give the same error then make sure to check the current bios first. Wouldn't be the first time a newer motherboard found its way in a, supposedly, earlier model laptop. If possible verify with the part nr. on the motherboard itself, it start with 6-77-P1****.

Hmm, and this doesn't happen to be a Sager originally, does it? If so; these have their own, specific bios versions, so that might explain the mismatch. No problem forcing then, but you'd have a different splash screen (' Style Note') and, supposedly, can't flash back to Sager without bricking.

The latest paired version of the EC and BIOS are:
    BIOS 1.03.01 and EC 1.03.01 for P15xSM.

Which I was wanting to flash to before flashing the BIOS up to 1.03.05.

This is one of the initial units we got for testing purposes before being decided on for production. We chose a different model, so there it has sat on the bottom rack for a few years. The initial BIOS that was on this was 1.00.01 ... and I have never swapped mobos on this particular system.

We ordered this system from Sager, and it has always had the Style Note logos. I guess I could be running into a problem with the Clevo flash saying that it doesn't recognize the now Sager BIOS.... at which point.. I was going to ask where to pickup a Sager BIOS, but I have a stack of Sager BIOS Update disks a little more than an arms length away from me. Will look through that and see if I can find a more suited BIOS there.

If it has ' Style Note' then it's using an original Clevo bios, so no issue there, at least. Flashed back-and-forth myself on an original Sager and never had a problem with that, but perhaps these reported issues are model-specific.

Anyway, sounds more like this pre-production bios isn't being recognised, so a force flash should be fine. Check the mb part nr., just in case, and make a backup of the current bios. Apart from facilitating a blind-flash with a known, working bios, it's also quite rare. If you can upload it somewhere and link to it in the owner's thread, then perhaps someone can make use of it.

My boss acquired the newest flash package from Sager today, and I was able to flash the laptop up to the newest. We found that the Control Center utility was also the wrong version, and once that was changed out as well, things finally started working the way they should.

I have an ibuypower laptop that I've had for a few years, and I realized there's no overclocking utilities for the i7-3740QM processor it came with.

I checked the bios and the following is what I've got:
    MB: W150ER
    BIOS Version: 1.00.07
    KBC/EC Version: 1.00.04

I've flashed the BIOS on desktop computers a few times in the past, but I've never flashed the BIOS for a notebook, especially one that has such a relatively obscure motherboard and BIOS setup. I really don't want to risk bricking my computer by flashing something incompatible, so I'm looking for recommendations on which firmware I should download, and what steps I need to take in order to bring my BIOS from its current stock version, to something a bit more recent, that (hopefully) has overclocking capabilities for the CPU.

Thanks in advance guys! I'm really glad I discovered this thread!

Hey @Prema. Sometime ago you told the users who use P650SE/SG that a new BIOS version which is based on another stock version is on the way. Any updates regarding that, or do you have a link to that stock BIOS you told us a about? Thanks :) .

I think that was only a fix for a potential W10 secureboot bug which no-one ever had, so not worth the time...it should be on palkeos mirror.

Initial thread updated and cleaned. BTW guys, I've noticed that Clevo has stepped up its BIOS support:
    1. No longer are there 3 BIOS parts (EC,BIOS, second EC)
    2. Same BIOS is now used on a wider range of models, which reduces the risk of bad BIOS flashes and reduces BIOS support and maintenance costs for Clevo.

    Well done Clevo!

EDIT: As usual, if you have any suggestions, updates or find any mistakes, please let me know.

@Khronos0 , you need to get to a repair shop and ask them to reflash your BIOS chip.
@aiwaawai there is a link in the initial thread where you can find a repository for all Clevo BIOS files. It's all thanx to paleko.

    Hi,

admin, relocate my post if you see it fit:

my notebook is an ahtec clevo m7xsun.

I cannot email my reseller, because the store is no longer there. I bought my clevo m7xsun in 2009. BIOS is 1.00.04 and I have no idea if clevo still supports this model, or if I can update the BIOS.

I have visited http://www.clevo.com/clevo_down.asp?lang=en and I don't understand if M7x means that a bios which works for m74xsu would work for me...

I am also a noob: bios is not the same as drivers. In the link I pasted there are only drivers. Where do I find the BIOS`s?

With most Clevos, the P670SG too, it's the same files. Clevo provides 'plain', clean bioses, unlike most other brands, which need unpacking and/or extracting before they can be used directly.

Assuming you need/have the v1.03.07 files; the P650SG.07 (4 MB) or P650SG6M.07 (6 MB) files are the ones you need. It depends on the particular eeprom (storage chip used by programmer) which file can be used. Service manual claims it's a 4 MB eeprom (marked '32' on the chip; 4 Mbyte x 8 = 32 Mbit), but service manuals can't be taken for granted (changes during production, e.g.), so check the chip's markings first to make certain.

    Mirror update !

No changelog, but I updated the main page listing all the models with the time a file was last added : that should be useful to some of you.

    Enjoy: https://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/

    hello

I'm owner of Clevo P650RA with BIOS version 1.05.10. I'd like to update the BIOS (yes, I'm aware of consequences) but I'm confused because after recent update of Palkeo's repository because I can't figure out which file is the latest.
Does any one know which is the latest
for BIOS i gues it's System BIOS 1.05.16. dated: 06/15/2016
    for EC:
    - 1.05.05 dated 06/24/2016 or 1.05.06 dated 05/06/2016 ?

When I buy a clevo barebone from a rather unknown, smaller company for cheap and they probably wont build their own bios, how would I best update my bios? (P64xRF)

    1. EC firmware 1.05.05 for P65xRA and P67xRA only.
    2. Support “Fn + d + power button load BIOS defaults” function.
    3. Modify GPU fan control.
    4. Refer to readme_EC.txt to update EC firmware.

    1. System BIOS 1.05.16.
    2. Support “to modify GPS setting when using user password to enter CMOS”.
    3. Refer to readme.txt to update BIOS.

    EC first, BIOS second .

    You go here:
    https://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/P64xRF/

First download and update de EC, than update BIOS.
You will need a flash drive to boot in DOS/FreeDOS and make the update from there. You can read the initial post of this thread to see how. Or google on how to make a bootable FreeDOS USB. Then copy the downloaded files on the flash drive and run the EC.bat or BIOS.bat file. Good luck.

I have a problem. I requested to get BIOS files update from my reseller from Malaysia and they sent me one. However I did not notice the files are for P65XSG, and not P650RG. So upon doing step 1 which is to update EC if I am not mistaken, after the process is done and laptop is turned off, when I was turning it on, that's when I know it was bricked. Nothing on the screen and then the power indicator is just blinking. THe process indicator is just lit and the orange charging indicator. That's all. I raised this with the reseller and sent me a file( https://mega.nz/#!HQUEhbpL!zPAwraaU4_TMRv7gcz1Po-j0zyDScvnMNm7rBwTvuj8) I did not rename it to anything as I read in the forums because I am not sure what to put. Nevertheless I did the necessary steps like making a usb drive dos bootable and then copying the file and pressing resetting CMOS and what not. Still nothing on the screen and is just blinking. Could you help me on this?

Also I noticed when I gave up still pressing the Fn+B button and then holding power button to switch off, the power indicator is still blinking together with the process indicator only lit up. I am not sure if this information could help.

Do fn+S if your machine has a second EC. If the EC flashed was too new for the bios installed, this can happen. The second ec is usually an older version and may be compatible with the bios. When updating firmware, it is always good to verify compatibility. Also, it could just be a bad flash. .. off the top of my head. ..

Unfortunately it doesn't do anything at all in my machine as well. Just sad.
