I think he was. I can confirm 100% that the P170EM can boot in UEFI mode.
The oldest Clevo laptop that I know to be able to boot in UEFI mode is the M570TU with BIOS .19. It's a model from 2008.

Hi noob question but I can't find an unabbreviated answer anywhere:

What the hell is the EC and why should I care that I am currently on 1.00.11 while 1.00.14 is available?

EC = embedded controller. Small chip that controls vital functions like fan speed and keyboard. Update if you're facing issues, otherwise leave it alone.

    Hi @Bester,
the "Embedded Controller" is a micro-controller that manages various real-time aspects of the PC (not handled by the CPU) such as screen brightness, external monitors, laptops battery charging and management, mouse and keyboard control and so on, while the BIOS is a program used to perform hardware initialization during the boot process (and provide various services as well).
Both BIOS and EC can be updated separately, they are totally different "environments" ;)
    Best,

    Omar60 :)

Fan control is often a big one handled by the EC so fan behaviours can change.

Usually you do it as part of a BIOS flash.

OK, is there an example of where to look or how to do it? I have a bios programmer and a bit of experience with it but unfortunately not enough to follow you

Oh to program it manually? You take your flasher program once clipped on, dump the existing contents into a backup, then program it with the file you want. The exact procedure depends on the board/software you are using.

I have a 341A Programmer with Clip 8 pin for the BIOS.
I would pay them something for it too.

Ask Sager about their BIOS. don't cross flash a Sager with a CLEVO BIOS. Sager should be able to assist

You might have to settle for older drivers. I have a GTX1070, and I can't use the latest NVIDIA drivers. Yours might be even older.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/ Manual search, select your graphics adapter under notebooks and search, then scroll down to see the older drivers.

thank you. I think my vidcard/gpu are going.
I will try that tonight. I actually restored to a prior windows back up and that did not solve the problem
I used a driver from september, that did not work.
I did a windows reinstall. that did not work.
currently, it is working with the vid card disabled.

Ouch! Keep a close eye on GPU temperatures, and other temperatures too. Plenty of utilities out there that will chart the temperatures for you. For all you know, it might just need a good cleaning and repasting. Fingers crossed.

well a good cleaning changed nothing. I tried multiple old drivers for the 970m. I wonder if this card is just dieing :(
waiting to see ifthere is a bios option. I am not sure if the 970m is something I can replace or not.

Only Prema can give it to you. Unless he decides to make his older BIOS public. @Prema ?

Does Prema still post/view these forums? I bought a system that came preloaded with the Prema BIOS and I think there is a bug in it that causes the internal keyboard to stop working. I'd like to submit a bug/jira issue but I'm not sure where that would be.

Perhaps I will try here. I have an x170sm-g and recently added two new RAM sticks. Then my machine started freezing and acting strange. So I was told to up the RAM voltage from 1.2V to 1.35V but I am not sure how to do this. I have the Prema mod installed, but I cannot see how to edit the voltage. I see it listed there, but no edit option. Anyone know how to do this??

Ah, Wow. I haven't really maintained the initial post in a while because now we get the BIOS / EC from here: https://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror

But yeah, yours is newer than what we can find in Palkeo's repo. You can upload it to megaupload or some other file sharing service and I will add it to the initial post.

    Hi all,
I'm Timo and am new here. Following this thread I was able to get service manuals and also a new Clevo-BIOS Update for my Clevo NV41ME - thanks for that!
However I'm now experiencing problems. I figured here are some Bios-Experts and people with good Clevo-Insights involved. So maybe someone has a hint for me:

After the BIOS update to 1.07.05 (from palkeos mirror for my model) the Thunderbolt 4 port was not working anymore. Am I missing anything? Spoiler: I was able to revert using my BIOS-dump (1.07.04) (made using a ch341a+clip).

    Things I did:
    - Make an EFI-Boot-Drive on USB
    - Place BIOS/ALL folder on USB
    - Boot into EFI-Shell
    - Unlock ME using MESET.efi
    - Reboot into EFI-Shell
    - Flash ME+BIOS using FLASHME.efi (or nsh?)

Instead of flashing using FLASHME.efi I also tried flashing using FLASHALL.efi without better success.
To revert back from 1.07.05 -> 1.07.04 I first used the stock bios provided by the palkeo-mirror. Here I ran into the same issue (thunderbolt not working).
Finally I flashed my own BIOS-Dump using EFI-Shell and FLASHALL.efi. Afterwards everything worked as before.

    Thanks in advance
    Timo

    Sidenote:
Inside the 1.07.05 archive are release-notes stating:
    1.07.03:
    "[...] 1.SUPPORT RETIMER F/W CAPSULE UPDATA [...]"
    1.07.04:
"[...] 2.Add Keep TBT Re-timer capsule update info solution. [...]"

Maybe due to this "capsule solution" the thunderbolt portion is not updated properly? Do I have to extract anything using uefitool or just update a portion of the Bios using a special command?

Generally in such a situation either wait for a new BIOS update or email whoever sold your laptop about the problems you had with your BIOS update. Generally, these problems will get forwarded to Clevo and make their way in a future BIOS update.

Look at the BIOS updates in the palkeo link in the initial post. See if any of them have any critical updates.

    Dear all experts,

I am seeking advise on bios update in a old laptop laying around.

    It is a re-brand of clevo P650SA - Aftershock -S15. The current bios:1.03.03 + EC:1.03.03.

Can i upgrade from 1.03.03 directly to 1.05.01 or I have to follow the version order.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

There is nothing in Clevo BIOS file info that suggests you can't do an upgrade straight from 1.03 to 1.05. Just make sure you upgrade the EC first and then the BIOS.
