So you are at this stage:
    EC/KBC V 1.02.12 & BIOS V 1.02.14

And you updated from , what was the previous version before this one?

You either didn't update properly, and you updated the BIOS without the EC or you have a bad EC/BIOS flash.

In either case , I think you should contact Prema, maybe he can help you recover the BIOS. Otherwise you need to take the good BIOS and EC files on a USB stick, head to the nearest laptop repair shop that can program BIOS chips and have them repair the laptop.

Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help me... I had previously installed a Prema BIOS mod on my W170ER, and attempted to flash the latest non-prema, stock bios, 1.02.17 (previously 1.02.16). I obviously did something stupid because then the laptop won't POST. I flashed the newest firmware (1.02.09), which seemed to go fine, then did the same for the newest BIOS. There was a very brief error message about NVRAM, then it turned off and now won't boot. The lights come on, the fans are going, but nothing else, not even a backlit screen. The USB ports have power at least because a plugged-in stick will light up.

Now, I've tried to follow instructions from what I've been reading online, and I've taken the file W150ER.bin from the stock clevo zip, renamed it W11ER.rom as per some other Prema instructions I found, copied it to the root of a FAT32 USB stick, plugged it into the USB 2.0 port of the laptop, held down Fn+B, and powered on. I read that the HDD is supposed to flash rapidly if the shortcut works, and it does flash, but not if I have this particular file on the USB. In any case, I read it's supposed to power off, then restart and then I should see a menu. But nothing happens.

I actually took it to a repair shop, and he says he flashed the official Clevo BIOS, yet still no success. I guess it's possible that he had the wrong version? In any case, I'd like to try the softer methods before I resort to sending away for replacement BIOS chips, soldering etc.

Does anyone smarter than me know what I could be doing wrong? Much appreciated!

Might end up taking it back, yeah. But is my technique what I'm supposed to be doing? On a normal setup, that should have worked?

If you don't trust the repairshop you can actualy do it yourself. There are cheap programmer kits that are rather cheap and would allow you to reflash yourself.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/KIT-Progra...174453?hash=item284d930c75:g:2PAAAOSwhpZaA0Y2

here is the entire kit, once you got it I can guide you through it, all you need is a notebook with USB.

ALso before you buy, can you make a photo of the BIOS chip? Just to be sure it's compatible with the clip.

.... Interesting. Might get one. Do these work on soldered chips? Like they clip into the chip without having to remove it?

Thanks so much for this, yeah I'll see if I can find the chip on the board. Do you know where I should be looking by the way? I checked the service manual but couldn't identify the bios chip (it is just the one I take it, I know some have two).

The BIOS chip typically has a little dot on it, it's market so it's easy to find.

Could it be this one, the big one? It's the only one with a white dot that I can see.

EDIT: My mistake, I think that might be an audio chip. Apologies but I'm really having trouble finding this thing. Any ideas?

Ooh these two might be contenders - one marked blue and one marked gold:

    2018-03-29 00.32.44.jpg

The blue chip is marked as PCT25VF016B, and the gold one is PCT25VF032B. According to Google these are serial flash devices. Could these be the ones I'm looking for?

yeah that looks like it. You can get the programmer, it's compatible.

I don't know which is which tho, but I assume one is the BIOS chip the other the EC.

Programmer ordered! Be here in a week or so. I guess when it comes to determining which is which, if Google fails, I could theoretically just try both one after the other? Would that do any harm if I got them the wrong way round?

EDIT: The plot thickens. According to the manual, the 16-bit chip is ME, which I THINK is to do with the Intel Management Engine. I will leave that one well alone. In which case I guess EC and BIOS are both on the 32-bit chip, the manual has that marked as BIOS/EC ROM. So I guess I'll just be flashing both to that chip.

As far as I know the EC and BIOS have 2 seperate chips, whtever the case.

When you got the programmer I'll tell you how to align it and use it. Once you read the chip you can save it and then see what the chips actually are. If I remember correcly the EC has some ridicolous amount of legs etc.

See the ITE chip? That's the EC chip.

I don't even know why I thought the EC chip could be an 8pin chip to begin with. Not to long ago I even researched a bit about it and knew it, goes to show that if you don't work with this multiple times you forget things. And it makes you feel stupid for forgetting :'D

Trying to update BIOS on Sager NP9170 and step 3 was as far as I got. When booting from USB it just says cannot find an operating system, press ctrl+alt+del. A little more detail for us techtards about how to get from step 3 to 4 would be nice.

Try using rufus to install FreeDOS on a USB stick. Try to boot from the USB stick. If everything works, then try to copy the necessary files to the USB stick and do the rest of the steps.

Thanks, I was able to create a bootable USB stick but now new issues when trying to install Sager EC/KBC V 1.02.12 & Sager BIOS V 1.02.17. I have BIOS V 1.00.05 and EC/KBC 1.00.06 and the EC update seemed to flash fine, but after restarting it still showed 1.00.06. Flashing BIOS caused an Error 25. Not sure how to proceed now.

Hmm I think you need to update to EC/KBC 1.02.12 first and then the BIOS.

I have installed the latest bios for the clevo p170sm from the other thread you posted (after 2014 releases).
Can you tell me how to access the hidden features? I'd like to control fan, battery recharging and disable my IGPU since it's always hooked up to my 120hz monitor.

Maybe you can pm me the unlocked bios? Thanks

Hi. For that, you would need the unlocked Prema bios, but there is a special separate thread for that.

    Hello.

I'm using a Clevo P170EM. I have never updated my BIOS. I started reading instructions in the beginning of this thread but things doesn't add up with the downloaded files. I need to clear up any questions about instructions.

I have downloaded files from this link:
    http://blacky.bestmail.ws/CLEVO BIOS/P170EM/P170EM_B17EC12.zip

which I think I need to use 1st method - "If the bios is an archive then this is what you need to do:"

    Fifth instruction step says:

    --------------------
    5. Once you are in the folder with your EC/KBC files, type "update.bat". If you have your EC/KBC files in the same folder with the rest of the BIOS files, then type "step1.bat" or "updateEC.bat".
    --------------------

Inside the folder where BIOS files are, there are no such files as step1.bat neither updateEC.bat. So this will return an error, no??? Same for step 9. I can't see no .bat files named step2 or updateBIOS inside the folder where BIOS files are.

Please explain this to me before I try to start!

Just put all the files in the root of your ms-dos bootable usb. Switch on and press F7. once in just type update.bat.

    That's it.

You are booting from USB with Ms-dos, operative system has nothing to do with it.

I'm not quite sure. Is it going to be possible to execute an Ms-Dos executable file in a Linux environment? AFUDOS.EXE is an Ms-Dos executable file. I'm not sure about this!

    Hi ppl!

I have a Clevo P150EMx, with the original 1.00.03 EC and BIOS versions.
From what i've read here, I need to update to 1.00.04 versions before update to more recent ones.

The problem is, when i try to run ECflash.bat on the 1.00.04 version, I get the message " ROMID is not compatible with BIOS ROMID".
It doesnt ask me to press Y, the flash just fail, and i have to exit.

Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks in advance.

You can force flash usually with a /f tag on the command but that can be dangerous.

I have never seen this problem before. Just make sure you are flashing the right thing. That message generally means your BIOS ROM is not for the model you are trying to flash. If you are absolutely sure you are flashing the right thing, you can force it like Meaker said.

    Hello people! :hi:

I am very confused, my level of English is medium and there are things that I do not understand well, sorry for this ... But in Spain, the assistance center that the team sold me does not help.

    I have a Mountain STUDIO 3D IVY17 (Clevo P170EM) windows 7 ultimate, i7 3840QM 2.8GHz, bios AMI 4.6.5 19/10/2012 SM BIOS 2.7 and GTX670MX. *If any information is missing please tell me.

I do not have much money and I would like to give a second life to the pc, what do you recommend?

How do I get the premamod bios? on the web it does not appear, in the forum the last bios is from 2013, is it really the last one? :/

I have tried to use a tool that I have seen in the forum, obsidian laptoptoolsetup, but it says that my operating system does not support it.

I'm doing everything wrong sure ^^

    Much appreciated!

Obsidian Tools only work for Win 10 at the moment. As for the hardware, I believe the top NV card you can use is a 680, which wouldn't be much of an upgrade. I don't know how far up the line with AMD you could use on that system.

Thanks Chastity, i tried windows 10 for a while but sometimes I had an error when starting and it ended up damaged my ssd, I have read that it has happened to more people, I am not clear if changing the operating system... maybe for the old bios?

Honestly nv 680 is not the answer expected haha, sad to say...

Your terms in a search yielded things like people turning on defrag for an SSD (or perhaps it didn't get turned off?) and corrupting USB attached drives. Nothing much else.

Win 10 has its quirks but should not actually affect any drive in any damaging way. Said cases are most likely random variables (e.g. existing hardware issues throwing BSODs).

Thanks guys, for now i will remain in win .

Yesterday I downloaded the most updated bios and installed it, but I think I've done something wrong, I do not see any differences ¿_¿

As you can see in the date of the bios 2012, however, in msinfo32 yes it says 2013, I do not understand it. [IMG]

    i download this:

In the instructions it says that if everything is together you have to use commands like step1 or updateEc, but here only came these files and the update.bat command.

I think I bricked it because I was confused as to whether to follow Clevo or Sager BIOS steps. XoticPC listed it as both. All the previous BIOS and EC updates said Clevo until the Sager EC/KBC V 1.02.12 & BIOS V 1.02.17
    Also, this link: http://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/P175EM1/
made me think I should flash to EC 1.02.03 and BIOS 1.02.03 before EC/KBC V1.02.12 and BIOS V 1.02.17 but after flashing EC to 1.02.03 it will no longer power on after realizing that it was for P175EM1. It wasn't marked on the thread post that it was for P175M1. What should I do now? This wasn't a really clear process for someone who never uses DOS or flashes BIOS this way. Yes, I'm an idiot and I don't care if I have to pay to fix it as my only intent was to update the BIOS and EC in order to sell it, perhaps figure out the backlighting issue.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles.

It should power on, to be honest, give beeps or immediately shut itself down. Not powering up at all is strange.
I would advise contacting a local repair shop with a BIOS programmer. It should cost around $50 to reprogram the BIOS and EC. Just make sure you have the proper BIOS and EC stored on a USB stick.
You should have the BIOS and EC you originally had when yous started the flashing, the the EC and BIOS you want to get to.

It's going great with my new i7 4940xm and gtx 880m. If anyone wants it, I will give you the link but please do donate to the creator (which is not me, by the way so no dogs in this fight).

Hello and hope that someone can help me with some information :)
I have an old notebook which is really slow and I would like to upgrade it, but before that I want to update the BIOS.

Well, my laptop manufacturer and model is MAGUAY MyWay H1502x (Intel Core i5-2520M, 4GB RAM DDR3-1333, 500GB HDD, nVidia GT 540M Optimus 1GB).
I know already that I need a SSD but I want a better RAM and CPU.

Btw, there is one mini card slot on the motherboard. Actually, there’s two slots, one with the wi-fi card in it, I guess and the other one is available.

Anyway, I’ve opened the BIOS (Phoenix SecureCore Tiano) and it looks like that
    MB Series: W150HNM/W170HN
    BIOS Revision: 1.01.12TMA2
    KBC/EC Firmware Revision: 1.00.02

    Questions:
    1) Which is the right BIOS for my motherboard?
    2) Is the second mini card slot destinated for a mSATA SSD if I will update the BIOS or for a 3G modem card?
    3) Is W150HNM/W170HN the same thing with W150ERQ/W170ER?
    4) Could anyone recommend me a CPU and RAM better than the current one?
