Hey all, I haven't been able to be here to update the thread much due to personal matters, I wanted to throw out the idea of an open google doc page (or other open collab) that users could add/edit as needed as a link on the first post instead of editing a post.

    Ideas? Suggestions?
Let me know and I'll make it happen, I'll be watching the topic this weekend to help get this set up so we're all on the same page and got a working system in place to stay updated.

The reason I have to find the old one is that the newest NVIDIA driver does not work with the Clevo B5130M. Basically with the lastest NVIDIA driver, the computer doesn't access the GPU so it is only using the internal video graphics. This is unfortunately well known by my manufactor and they told me the solution was getting the drivers off the clevo website which is not working for me.

I've asked this question before, but since I got no answer, I'll ask it again: why are there drivers out there that are a "newer" version than the ones posted on the manufacturer's official site (Synaptics, Intel, etc.)? Kindly explain, because I still don't get it. Are these developped by the manufacturer himself or by someone else? Thank you.

I wouldn't do that myself, as I said earlier, since this driver is really not for Sager laptops. It might've made some modifications to the "generic" driver which is why it is named Thinkpad pointing device and is not successful in finding a compatible device in our laptops.

haha alright then: some driver versions are offered generically, thus theyre pubicly available for downloading on the respective website. other driver versions are only available through manufacturers or resellers who pack them onto a driver disk that ships with new laptops for example. furthermore, there are some beta versions that find their way through inofficial channels to sites such as station-drivers.com. whatever the case, us enthusiasts dont really care where they come from as long as the version number is higher and it works ;) :D

I think it's that because maufacturers are too slow to post it on their websites. They don't make new drivers, vendors of those hardware part make drivers for it.

jaybee83 and Floridan79 - thank you both for answering my question.

I had already noticed that some manufacturer's sites have the same drivers for ages (Synaptics comes to mind...). I also like to have the latest version of the drivers.

Let's keep this great thread going.

Hello, thought it best to post in this thread rather than create a new one. Apologies in advance for the ignorance.

I have a Clevo M860TU laptop, using a GTX 260M video card and a T9400 2.53 GHz processor (having just installed CPU-Z, apparently the processor is a P8600 @ 2.40GHz but clocks at 2.5). Chipset is PM45. I am looking to swap my current hdd WDC wd2500bevs-00ust0 ATA (232gb, IDE) for a Seagate Momentus 2.5 inch XT ST95005620AS 500GB.

It's the first time I've done this, I did try to search for info on the forums but the search function doesn't work for me. Basically any help would be greatly appreciated (e.g. links to clear step by step guides), but I hope you can provide me with the drivers I need to download and install. I did google a bit but some sites seem unconvincing or not up to date. I will be installing Windows Vista (sadly).

    Thanks for any assistance!

EDIT: Ok, I think I found some: http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=download&modelno=M860TU/M860ETU#file

    Best to use these ones?

No, I appreciate it! I mean, this is what it tells me in the manual: 2.5" SATA HDD listed under storage, one eSATA port under interface (supporting AHCI and IDE modes). I take it I can switch mode in BIOS during installation?

The compatibility issues always worry me, maybe I'm missing something. I can't seem to find much info on changing hdds from other owners of the M860TU.

EDIT: Ok, mystery solved (I think). Windows might be reporting it wrong, apparently my current hdd is in fact a SATA. Source. There are, however, IDE controllers listed in my device manager but these are perhaps emulations. SATA AHCI Controller also listed.

Yes, Windows 7 has pretty much the same settings as Vista & XP. Some changed but not all. You'll notice the speed increase when you are downloading and using MP online games.

Go into your bios settings and see if it's set to AHCI or IDE.

It's possible you have a SATA hard drive on the SATA connector but bios is set to IDE.

can anyone clarify the Renesas USB 3.0 Firmware upgrade issue?

I upgraded the driver for it without a problem, restarted the computer, then proceeded to upgrade the firmware, specifically using this:

    http://www.station-drivers.com/tele...3_firmware_3x_4x(www.station-drivers.com).exe

It goes to about 2/3 of the way updating then just sits. The laptop is working lightly yet very slow to respond. After about 30 minutes or so I think it actually hibernated. When I turned it back on the program was frozen.

Restarted the computer, no USB 3.0 whatsoever. Tried updating the firmware once again and going on another 30 minutes with the computer lightly working but no progress pass ~60%. Anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: Got it. ran the firmware update program in win xp sp2 mode w/ admin, updated fine. restarted comp, reinstalled 3.1.32 drivers the same way (sp2 + admin) and now everything is back up and working.

Why is there a separate installer of Physx aside from the one included in the Nvidia GeForce drivers?

EDIT: This installer does not work. It comes up with an error of "cannot read from file". I re-downloaded several times and the result is the same for each try.

Did you install the latest WHQL?

    Drivers - GeForce

I unselected all the stuff that I did't need like All 3D stuff, nVidia Update, PhysX and checked the clean install. After that it installs correctly. You can then install the newest PhysX that I posted after all that.

I updated 3 notebooks and a desktop with the file.

    No issues.

From elevated administator command prompt run sfc /scannow to check for file corruption.

Always choose custom install when updating NVIDIA graphics drivers.Uncheck nvidia audio,3D and nvidia up date if you don't want them but DO check the box to unintall the old driver and clean install the new.

    Already did sfc /scannow also.

I don't understand why that file is the only file that I'm having problem with. All other installers works flawlessly for my system. It might be that it's always getting corrupted because I'm using Internet Download Manager to dl the file?

By the way, why is that PhysX version not included with the latest WHQL driver of NVIDIA? Is it a beta?

Oh by the way, regarding the problem I was having earlier. I already solved it. It is necessary to run the installer from your OS drive. Initially, I downloaded it to my Storage (D:\) drive and ran it from there. That caused the error I was referring to earlier.

You can download and try the 302.59 developer driver with modded inf.Extract the driver and replace the nvwi.inf in the display driver folder with the modded inf.

Choose CUSTOM install in the setup and check the box to uninstall the old driver. If it doesn't work out for you go back and reinstall 295.62

The modded inf has support for the GTX670M and GTX675M
