The hotkey driver also installs some lower level power management software. I'd highly recommend using it if you want to maximize performance or power savings. If the pop up graphics annoy you when it's installed, you can always remove the service from startup.

Alright thanks.. any other drivers I have to install altough the device works?

E.g. I haven't installed the webcam driver, touchpad

@edit: by disabling the service u mean removing "Hotkey" from startup via msconfig ? will this power-balance thingy switch automatically when I'm on battery only? What exactly will it change between high performance & energy saver?

    thanks

@edit2: installing the hotkey driver and switching to performance mode didn't increase the results in 3dmark06

The program sets the state in the EC firmware, the state stays until you change it or do an EC reset, having it set to lowest power state keeps the cpu at it's lowest throttled state, if you're on battery the gpu is already confined to it's 2 low power states also.

Disabling the startup hotkey service would just turn off the on screen display portion of the app.

Which driver are you talking about? The brightness control is managed by the display driver.

What model laptop? Because the 285.62 driver does have the brightness control information for the current clevo's.

Theres nothing to mod, all the needed info is already in there, I'd say shutdown/reboot or close and open your lid, sometimes brightness can get stuck and that tends to reset it, I've experienced that in the past on occasion.

All the necessary information for that hardware setup is already in the stock provided inf for that driver though believe me, good luck with it.

If I'm using a USB heatset (QPAD 1339), can I uninstall the THX drivers that came with my laptop and install the realtek HDAV R2.67 BETA? Also does an equilizer come with that driver?

The THX software operates independently of the Realtek HD Audio drivers, you can run any version of the driver you want in conjunction with it.

Believe it or not, the newest drivers are the ones from Dec 2010 that are available on the Clevo site:

    ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/P15xHM/Optional/THX.zip

They just aren't updated very frequently. Note that you can run the update utility provided within the THX software, and it will also show that you are up to date.

Please note on that XTU 3.0 download above. Do NOT use it on your P170's. It will produce issues. XTU 3.x is ONLY for X79

The only reason I can think of is that it's just easy to miss. Intel labels them as Proset Wireless drivers (just as they do the actual Wireless ones) and it's pretty easy to confuse them. That and the fact that Bluetooth is technically plug and play in Windows 7- it just doesn't really work as expected for all devices with the generic drivers.

    What I do is this:

Right-click the .exe and make a shortcut of it.
Open up the shortcut and under Target add -overall to the very end.
Run the shortcut with admin privileges.
It should overwrite all of the previous driver entries and update with whatever is the newest.

Note that this only works with their INF Update Utility.

Yes and no. It's mainly a firmware RAID software and it boosts performance of your system drive, especially SSD's. The difference can be significant (it boosts the score of my stock SSD from 5.9 to 6.9 in WEI, and has noticeably increased read/write speeds).

Intel Rapid Storage Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does it say which driver it's struggling with? You can always try a clean install by removing the old version and fresh installing the new.

Just a cautionary word about the -overall switch, the Intel chipset driver package comes with a generic AHCI/SATA driver for Intel 6 series which hasn't been updated since 2010, this driver pales in comparison to the performance of the RST driver, extremely if you're using SSD...

And the point of mentioning that is that if you have RST installed and install the Intel chipset drivers with the -overall switch it WILL overwrite your RST drivers with the 2010 basic AHCI driver, i'd also note that if you run the installer normally and it doesn't actually install any drivers it means theres nothing newer for your chipset.

Intel has not updated the 6 series drivers in a while, the package receives an updated revision number each time they make an update for any piece of hardware for any chipset however drivers that didn't get updated will retain their same revision number and date inside the package.

Im not using the device manager... Maybe I should try that...
Also I was recommended to use - overall. If its a bad thing how do I revert back ?

Update. I tried to instal it through device manager. now the AHCI is upto date with the newest driver, but there was like no instal screen. just asked me to restart for it to take effect.
also i checked system info in the rst and it said that driver version is 10.8.0.1003 but user interface is 10.1.0.1008 and so is the ISDI version. is this right?

regarding the AHCI driver is it okay now that i have over writen the AHCI driver with the latest RST driver?

You don't need to revert but if you want to install RST you may end up having to use the device manager method, when I gave -overall a try the RST setup would fail to install drivers after and I had to install manually via device manager.

I myself haven't tried using the overall switch since I'm still waiting for my laptop and building my desktop rig right now. I was just instructed to do that as a "recommendation" for proper installation. For a fresh windows install, should I use the overall switch with the INF chipset installation utility and then install the RST driver after?

Why would the RST driver installation fail if we use the overall switch?

You don't need the -overall switch on a fresh Windows install since the preloaded Windows drivers will be older than the ones in the INF package so all will be updated anyway.

To be honest the only real time the -overall switch would be pertinent would be in the case that you were going back and forth between alpha release INF packages or downgrading, otherwise it'll always be going forward update anyway.

As for the RST setup failing after the -overall switch, it could be due to glitches in the last RST installer or it could be due to the fact Windows was pending a reboot after the generic AHCI driver installed and that may have been throwing it off, either way I could still install the RST drivers via device manager anyway and I would lean on RST's installer failing on pending reboot for hardware changes.
