After I installed it through device manager, it update and I double checked it on system info in rst. It seemed to have updated the driver but the User interface and Isdi version is 10.1.0.1008? Is this normal?

Thats the older manager, the current is 1.0.8.1003 but it will only install from the installer package, if you can't get it to install I wouldn't worry about it too much though since the driver is the most important part, the manager mostly just gives you status info.

If you can't get the latest one installed maybe wait for the next release and see if it installs properly, this last installer has been finicky, it installed for me once but won't again, it won't install at all on a friend's desktop though the previous version did.

So technically, you don't need the -overall switch AT ALL? Lol.

Pretty much, I can only think of those rare occasions where it would be useful at all.

Apparently, people in OCN forums say they don't have any problems using the -overall switch and then installing RST drivers. This is really getting confusing.

Even if they don't have issues with that the necessity of the -overall switch is debatable, the default INF package setup works pretty simple, it checks currently installed versions of each chipset device driver against what it has, if installed is same or newer it skips them, if older it updates them.

For example so far the last update for our 6 series chipsets was back at 9.2.0.1032 and that was only for 1 device, all other parts are at 9.2.0.1026 or older, dig through device manager to take a look you'll see what I mean.

I get why people are trying the -overall switch and what not, since Intel doesn't document which components of the package were updated so nobody knows until install time if anything for their specific chipset actually was updated for the particular release, some users see it not installing any drivers and think something is wrong when in fact it's working exactly as intended.

Well, won't it be safe to just use the -overall switch anyway?

AFAIK, the INF installation utility doesn't actually install "drivers". It just updates the system of what hardware (name) is present. At least that's what I read in OCN.

Personal preference I guess, it's not going to hurt, just going to mean reinstalling the same versions over themselves for some or all parts and rebooting twice. (once after installing the package and again after installing RST again)

Technically yes but installs the same as a driver though they are just INF entries without any binaries, think of it as a "light" driver of a sort.

Any idea where I can find the driver for Clevo's Japanese keyboard? I installed a generic 106/109 key driver from Device Manager but Windows 7 still isn't recognizing a few very important keys, like kana switch and kanji conversion. Google is turning up nothing but IME tips

Are you running Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise? You can install the Japanese language pack from there and change the keyboard settings under control panel > region and language.

    No time to update it?

I think it would be better to update just the OP instead of posting in the thread every time an updated driver is released. Just saying :)

Sorry for your troubles but the 2.67 build 6526 driver works well for me on all 3 of my notebooks.

I mainly use quality headphones and earbuds because there's always others around that don't want to be disturbed by my noise but on my MSI GT780DX the internal speakers sound just fine also.

Your post is the only negative if seen reguarding problems perceived to be due to the driver.

Yeah well... I just reverted back to 6499 and everything seems fine.
With 6526 everything sounded very deep and full with echo. I have no idea why... have troubleshooted for 40min and couldn't fix it...
We'll see if the next release will be better :).

Does it really take a long time for the USB 3.0 Renesas Firmware update to finish? I installed 2.1.19.0 (included in the package in station drivers) and then run the fw updater. It continued smoothly but it's stuck at half past the installation bar. My CPU usage is 17% and 100% on RAM (8GB). Is this normal?

EDIT: The update is really not working. When you run it, it will just add "cmd*32" processes to my system in an infinite loop that's why my RAM usage goes up to 100%. I force closed the program and restarted the computer and tried updating again, same result. I even tried updating to 2.1.28.0 drivers first before firmware updating but to no luck :( What am I not doing correctly here?

BTW, the USB 3.0 Host Controller Information indicates a firmware revision of 4015.

No, it's Beta and not WHQL.

It should be a quick update (less than a few seconds). Are you running it as an admin? If not, try that first. Otherwise you may already have that firmware installed.

Is this the same as the 2.1.28.0 in station-drivers?

    @all

Regarding the USB 3.0 firmware update, I think it is a common compatibility issue with Win7 x64. People are also experiencing the same here: http://www.station-drivers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3169&start=15 . It seems that the program cannot see the ROM that needs to be updated but then again I think Sager already did flash my USB 3.0 firmware the latest revision (4015) from the start as seen in my software.

NEC/Renesas has 2 controllers that use different firmware.

The uPD720200 and uPD720200a is what's in just about all notebooks that have NEC/Renasas USB 3.0 controller.

    Use firmware 3.0.2.8.0.8
    Use Driver 2.1.28.0

    RENESAS/NEC Drivers & Firmwares

Don't use the 3.0.2.8.0.8/4.0.1.5.0.2 combination firmware.

I just got my new 8170 and I installed the drivers that came with the driver CD (version 1.00.10).

Everything is outdated but aside from the video card drivers, is anything considered an "essential" update?

    Cheers,

Ok. Why should I not use the 3.0.2.8.0.8/4.0.1.5.0.2 combination firmware?

What is the version of your firmware as indicated in the usb 3.0 host controller software? At stock, mine indicated 4015. Is that the same as 4.0.1.5.0.2 firnware installed?

No, that's the revision #. Version 3 and 4 are for newer USB3 controllers chipsets which our laptops doesnt have. Stick with version 2 if you want your USB3 ports to work.

I still don't get it. WhatsThePoint said that we should use 3.0.2.8.0.8 and not the 3.0.2.8.0.8/4.0.1.5.0.2 for the firmware. What is the difference between both? What refers to versions 2, 3, and 4 in those numbers?

Also, here is what I was referring to:

As you can see, it says "firmware version" there as 4015. Which is which?

When I try using the 3.0.2.8.0.8 firmware, it always gives me an error message of "Not found the target device".

If the NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 chip in your notebook is the uPD720200 the firmware update may hang if using the combo 3.0.2.8.0.8/4.0.1.5.0.2.

Firmware 3.0.2.8.0.8 works for the uPD720200 USB 3.0 chip

Evan if it seems successful the firmware when checked in All Programs>Renesas after rebooting will say 3.0.2.8.0.8

If your notebook has the uPD720200a the firmware update to 4.0.1.5 will most likely be successful

    Using the combo 3.0.2.8.0.8/4.0.1.5.0.2 hangs.

Do you see the picture I've posted above? It says firmware version: 4015, what does it mean? It seems that this info is very important for my question but is not noticed by you guys? :(

It means you have the uPD720200a chip, the 4.0.1.5 firmware is installed and you have the newest driver release v2.1.28.0.

New notebooks like the MSI GT780DX I recently got already has the 4.0.1.5 firmware so the updater hangs for me too.

On a desktop I have with the older uPD720200 it doesn't hang but it will not go beyond the 3.0.2.8.0.8 firmware to 4.0.1.5 no matter how many attempts at updating I do.
