This company is selling the M540V for $150... : http://www.medisoncelebrity.com/

Just so you know several swedish forums are digging about the company and it's owner.
    I need your thoughts!

Btw the Nexoc E619 isn't a clevo, just that you know it. It's a compal barebook.
I have a excel file of marasst with compal ifl90/91 forcasts and nexoc is in the list. Marasst delivers to Multicom, Zepto, N4ALL, ASA, NEXOC.

This is a great guide! I just came across this forum as I was doing research on gaming laptops and I decided to join in the hopes that you all can help me out. Yes, my very first post, and I'm begging for help!

I'm fairly new to the world of gaming (and completely new to the concept of a gaming laptop!) and don't really know what I'm looking for in a gaming laptop. The games I typically play are City of Hero's, Guild Wars and I just downloaded Lineage II and World of Warcraft. WOW is what put me over the edge. My poor little Toshiba (in no way a gaming machine) finally had enough and let me know it by taking 6 hours to load the game. And the best part....I don't think I like the game!

From the research I've done so far it sounds like I want a Clevo, DDR2 or DDR3, Intel Duo Core, two hard drives (though I don't know why - better, faster performance I assume???) and a really good video card. Not sure if Windows XP is better or Vista.

I'd like to buy from a USA based company as I'm in Pennsylvania and I'm leaning towards buying from M-Tech Laptops but wanted to see if anyone had any negative thoughts on them or a better company to order from. Overall, they've got a great rating, but the ones for 2007, not as good. I've read enough to stay away from Alienware and WidowPC. I'd like to stay as much under $3000 as possible.

As you can see, I just like to play games, and am very much a novice when it comes to computer specs. So, any help would be greatly appreciated that will help me get the best gaming laptop for me, and keep me from getting ripped off!

    Many thanks!

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

There is nothing wrong with M-tech, but you can get a much better value (w/ service/support) if you look towards:
.... etc... (in this Guide's ratings)

Stay away from Alienware and WidowPC... since they are extremely overpriced... for what you get.

I need to know your budget, size preference, etc... to better give you suggestions.

I would recommend to go to the What Notebook Should I Buy? sub-forum, and fill out the FAQ.

    _______________________
    Differences:

The D900C is a desktop replacement with more power (desktop CPU and SLI interchangeable MXM videocards, less batterylife, and more storage (3 HDDs).

The M570RU is a powerful notebook with optimal power (new mobile CPUs and single interchangeable MXM videocard, better batterylife, and single HDD.

So these notebooks are both powerful, but has different features that makes them distinct from consumer to consumer.

They are both great machines, but the D900C is more costly... while the M570RU has better portability (batterylife and weight).

Its just up to you on what would fit you better.

    Hope this helps,
    -Gophn

Thanks for the quick reply Gophn! I'll definitely take a look at those two laptops. Here's a little more detail.

I'd like to stay as much under $3000 as possible. I'd be more comfortable with spending $2000-$2500. Though I'm willing to spend up to $3000 if I can't get a great gaming laptop for less than that. Whatever I buy needs ot last me for several years so if I spend more now, and just upgrade later, I'd prefer to do that. I'll also use it as a general laptop for the pet sitting business I just started.

I'm not too concerned with weight as I won't be super mobile with it, but the lighter the better of course! I'll mostly have the laptop plugged in, but it would be nice to have a decent battery life. I'd like to stick to a 17" widescreen monitor, anything smaller would drive me nuts, and I think anything bigger would be out of my price range. 100GB+ HD would be nice considering I've almost filled my current 100GB HD. Full size keyboard and numeric pad would be nice.

    Thanks!

Definitely would recommend the Clevo M570RU (Sager 5790) for you then.

You can get a fully loaded system for less than $2500 at the moment.

Read the Review that Joga has just created for this extremely new notebook.

    Gophn is the man.

Also, I have a question on the best way to approach Eurocom about a discount. Right now I am bargaining for a m570ru.

    Thanks

Remember to make quotes from RJtech.com, XoticPC.com, and Hypersonic... since they are known for having best prices usually.

and then use those quotes to bargain with Eurocom.

Thanks Gophn -- you've been extremely helpful here.

I just bit the bullet with a M570RU from RJTech. I was initially going to go with Eurocom but they weren't being nearly efficient enough and their prices for the same product was over $900. I wasn't prepared to bargain $900. Hopefully RJTech ship to Canada well enough (that is, within 2 weeks)...

    Specs:
    - UXGA screen
    - T7700 (I so wish I could wait for the x7800 with Eurocom but they're saying 2-3 weeks... not soon enough)
    - 512MB 8700GT
    - Wireless-N
    - Vista Home Premium
    - Office Home-Student
    - TV Tuner (never used one before)

One question: I'm glad the video card is upgradeable (waits for 8800m), but is the processor upgradeable?

That's great to hear. I really think taking the leap from 2.6Ghz to 3.0Ghz OCed will be a significant one performance-wise. Any retailers that sell laptop parts individually to Canada? Also, do you know how RJTech's shipping is internationally (i.e. Canada -- it's not overseas, at least)?

Finally: I'm looking to install a Blu-Ray drive into the laptop, but the shape of the optical drive in this machine is actually quite odd, even though it's been claimed as a "standard" size.

Look carefully at the far right. Doesn't look so standard sized to me...

the optical bay is standard, just the drive's bezel needs to be swapped for the right shape.

I would recommend to contact the vendor that you want to order the notebook from, to include the drive for you (so you do not have to deal with the bezel stuff)

RJtech has shipped to many places from the people that I have seen get them, Canada to Middle East.

And Eurocom will price match as long as its reasonable and the currency is converted to CAD.

Here's to really hoping I can play Bioshock and Crysis at 1920x1200. That D900C looks so tempting I could cancel my order and go for that instead but weight is just such a huge issue...

    looks pretty nice
about €700 cheaper than the one I ordered from Rock, though at Rock I configured it with the 7950, which isn't an option at laptops4u
I'll just sit out the Rock one though ... but they better be delivering fast!

as for delivery: are you sure it's shipped? cause delivery time is over 6 days at the website!

yeah I'm typing on it now. The day after I ordered the website went from on stock to 6 days. So I was getting afraid but on the same day I got an email that is was produced and ready to be shipped. In the evening at 20:00 I got an email that it was shipped and last friday I received it. Now they say >6 days but they also have gone 100 euro's cheaper (temp or term i dont know). I guess I had one of the last of the batch they had on stock.

It came without fingerprint reader but that was also not in the specs. I just hoped it would be included. Well maybe it can be added later ??

    Its the world's fastest notebook.

And today got the announcement that its got a new motherboard revision to let it fully support Intel quad-core CPU (w/ G0 stepping).... on the frontpage of this site. :)

Ah, thanks much. Seems digitalstormonline.com also sells it (As the Tornado G3 PRO), and their configurator already lists it with the quad-core. Nice.

Now I just need to pick a reseller.. any recommendations for someone living in Canada?

Eurocom is one of the big 3 in North America.

Although I would highly recommend www.xoticpc.com as well... they also ship and support international customers (as well has some of the best prices around).

I have just ordered a d900c from eurocom, nice people to talk to if they will ring you back. Must say that they told me 5-7 days till it is shipped out when ordering. Now eurocom is telling me 2 weeks before they have it instock. As for price matching they wont budge ( on the d900c ), which is fair enough. unsure of duty tax in canada but rjtech and xoticpc are way cheaper on price even when converted in can dollar

Is it true that the Quad Core CPUs will cause a system failure if used in a d900c? I was going to purchase a d900c with that processor and I was told to get it in a d901c. But, I do not want to spend more money if the d900c can use it properly.

I have a D900T which i got a couple of months shy of 2 years ago.
    7800 gtx go 3.8Ghz p4.

Today ive noticed the laptops screens been glitching blue :/ and at one point everything on blue turned very noisy and ghosty :/

I hate to think the graphics card is dying or the screen is dying so please any advice.

Today i also installed the latest direct x and im using the Xtream G laptop drivers witch i installed a week ago.

    Oh and Xp.

whats my options :/ If i really must get a new lcd plate where can i get one for a good price.

Also i noticed its the same socket type can i install the q6600. If not why not.

Also what about 8800 gtx go cards? Are they an option to install... And again if not why not.

    Thanks for your time...

    Nutsy

    Fantastic post!

You have Evesham as a reseller? You should add Novatech. www.novatech.com.

    They are a Clevo rebrander,

A little info for those of you who live in Europe.

I have just spoken to a relative, who happens to be in the Italian Guardia di Finanza or "Fiamme Gialle" (a special police corps which specialises in money-related crimes such as laundering, illegal imports and exports, tax evasion etc.)

Inside the EC there are no Import related taxes.

VAT is calculated in the country you bought it from.

That said, the cheapest place I have found a Clevo D901C is http://www.pcw.fr @ 1599 Euros. However, add the 8700 SLI to the equation (+794 Euros) and that reseller doesnt seem so attractive anymore.

The best deal so far I reckon is Alb-Computer.de http://www.alb-computer.de/index.php?cPath=1_5_308
They resell Nexoc laptops in various trim levels. I have contacted them about the possibility of modifying the specifications on offer. Will let you know as soon as they reply.

Also, In Spain, a company called Ahtec resells Clevo notebooks too.

    www.ahtec.es.

Their prices are very very attractive. However I suspect their shipping costs to be high

Nexoc Notebooks only sells notebooks to companies.

Their official partner for general public sales is now CSV NETZWERK http://www.csv-systemhaus.de/

Pricing is in line with Alb-Computer's

    Hi all :).

I live in Turkey and looking for a notebook for gaming use so I have checked out the alternatives and I am thinking about 2 notebooks. "Dreamer" told me that both are actually powered by Clevo. I ll add the links I ll be grateful if you explain :). Lastly, if they are Clevo powered, is it possible to buy a mobile graphics card from ebay and then upgrade it ?

Both of those notebooks are produced by Clevo, they're known as the Clevo M570Ru. Clevo sells the notebooks to other computer companies, who add they're own logo and such, and then sell to the consumer.

And yes, it would be possible to upgrade those graphics cards with standard MXM cards.

BUT it does require a MB upgrade as well.
So better hold off a few more weeks ;)
