I'll defer to those who know on the forum about the specifics of actually using the update, such as Theriko, who definitely knows his way around the guts of most Clevos (and other systems, too, I'm sure) - he describes how to use these files to update the keyboard firmware first, and then the BIOS, here, in his first post in the thread New BIOSes out for D900F and M980NU (NP9280/NP9850).

Follow Theriko's directions, and if you have any questions, or are unsure about anything, post a question in that other thread for Theriko (or anyone else who's sufficiently knowledgeable) to answer.

Just FYI, when I poked around inside the .zip file, I found the following files:
    98NU_103.WPH
    ECM980NU.03
    PHLASH16.EXE
    step1.bat
    step2.bat

I just go my cryo lx! perfect fit for the laptop. just one problem. no power off button. you have to unplug it each time you don't use it. If you turn the laptop off, the fan still turn. is annoying to unplug and plug again. on low, idle mode temp are about 37 degree. I didn't to play a game yet with fan on high

I have one on the way and will be looking to maximise performance of the machine, have you tried moo's link for overclocking the machine (if you are interested in doing such a thing)

I am very interested in the results you have achieved from it

I thought about going Eurocom until I saw how damn expensive they were... Xotic PC offers way more in terms of options for a lot cheaper might I add.

The only problem I have with Eurocom is they keep their prices ridiculously high and re-actively lower them to price match versus proactively being competitive while picking off the grossly uninformed. At least try to stay somewhat competitive versus preying on the glamoured and enraptured.

They actually price match xoticpc and gave me better system for what I originally wanted. If you think of buying, send them a email with what you want and what the othera are offering.

Thats because 3dmark06 is very cpu dependant and he hasnt put any clocks on his machine, with my M17 with 2x 3870's I get break 16500 as I can run my Qx9300 at 3.2 ghz all day. As we have a custom bios to unlock Multipliers

One of the things i want to overcome is finding a relieable way of increasing the fsb for benching etc

Seems that the few people that have these are not too worried about pushing thier systems, which is a shame to be honest

Im sure in time Pmanuk there will be people who wont take no for an answer and find an alternative to overclocking. Would be a real shame to see such a nice system never have that potential.

I thought the main crowd for these types of systems were enthusiast. Didn't think the average home buyer were touching these. Guess we'll have to wait for you to get it to see what it can do.

Depending in which divisor M980NU use you maybe can't overclock it at all...

If the M980NU use the ram at 1333mhz at stock it gonna be an epic fail lol :D

    New KBC/EC guys:

    1. EC firmware 1.00.05.
    2. Solve "sometimes touchpad can't work after system resumes from standby mode" issue.

    get your fix here

As usual, extract onto a botable usb stick, boot into dos and type "update" (without quotes)

He's talking about changing memory speed. If the divisors are bad it doesn't matter what you can do with the fsb you won't have a stable system.

I am an enthusiast and an average user, also. :D
Basically, I don't buy laptops to overclock because something that costs me 2.5 - 3.2k is a good amount of money in my world.
It's a personal choice that I don't want to reduce the lifespan of components just for the sake of the benchmark.

I'm very much looking forward to hearing about the stability and stock performance of the 9850 more than anything else.

The X in QX9300 is just a label given by Intel to denote that the CPU's multipliers are unlocked. But technically, the manufacturing specification of the CPU is indeed Q9300.

I can sense that you are asking this because the CPU doesn't "sound" as cool without the X.

The difference is we expect stability at stock. Anything less we RMA it. Also making sure you get a good warranty will give you the same life span regardless how much extra heat you introduce to the system.

Yes, I agree. I demand stability at stock! And true to make sure your warranty is a very good one if you are going to OC for fun! lol..
Don't get me wrong,, I mean , I use to do the same thing you guys do, but on desktop hardware... That was back in the day before my kids grew up and started costing me so much money.
I never imagined messing with a laptop where heat is an issue from the very start. :) So enjoy and may your 'money tree' always be in bloom!

    2.5 * 12 = 30

    30 - 18 = 12

    12 - 4 = 8

    8 / 2 = 4

Never mind, too much trouble to explain :p . It's just some crazyness from my random mind.

    Nah i don't need to practice, i already won 2 math tournaments :D .

BTW it was just basic operations so...

Fifth grade (called Grade 5 in some regions) is a year of education in the United States and many other nations. The fifth grade is the fifth school year after kindergarten. Students are usually 10 - 11 years old. Depending on the school district, in certain parts of the United States, it is the first year of junior high school.

10 years?, here we learn the basic operations with 5 years lol

My friend (american which lives here) already said that math lessons in USA colleges is far weaker compared to ours but i was not imagining that much weak lol.

lol... Mandrake,, under 10 years old is a breeze!!! After that it's "skater" store clothes, where hoodies alone cost $50+ , and no more Elmo and Barbie toys -- it's Ipods, cellphones, Laptops, Consoles, GAMES at $40-60 a pop, Then ,, there are cars to buy and more insurance ,,, omg it goes on and on..

You thought diapers were expensive? "wink" LOLOLOL

ok, back on topic now :-D
