Do you guys think that the M980 will be the platform to replace the D900? Will it fit mobile i7's or i5's in the future? Obviously with upgraded mb and so on...
I'm torn between the M980 and the D900F - whichever I get will have to last several years, so I am concerned about upgradeability. -
I am soooooo jealous of people getting this notebook (aka portable server). When I got my D901C I was the bomb to my friends and co-workers (still am). People are still amazed when they see my Clevo D901C, but I'm going to keep it as long as I can and then get the latest Clevo that comes is around in the future (with holographic memory).

if you are a gamer get the np9850 and a qx9300. 7 years is a very very very long time and your computer will be very out dated by then. so i would get sli is so it will last longer then the d900f -
Still no one Reviewing one of this machines ?
-
there are no finished production models released yet FACT!
all the write ups and people saying they have got one will only have a pre production model and this WILL NOT have the full spec or components of the finished article FACT!
hopefully not long to go until the official delayed release and all the forums will get this info as soon as all the OEM's get it. -
Actually it's already sold in germany, some already got their machines, retail.....
-
If you want to get an idea of the performance you can expect, just go to the Alienware M17x forum. The M17x uses the same core components, e.g. chipset, 260's, 280's, and has been in customers hands for a good while now.
Performance wise, the M17x and the M980nu should be quite similar. -
Same here in Norway...I know at least one retailer here that has this machine in stock.
-
very interesting as clevo have not released them yet.
proof please.
its one thing for people to say they already have them but has anyone seen a final production version yet.
are you sure these people havnt got the demo/pre production versions that kobalt demonstrated back in april at the gadget show.
think about it. if youve got one of the first machines in the world wouldnt you be posting it on every forum and website available???? -
Ask magnifica, he says he has a retail version and he ordered a second VGA for 500EUR....
-
so with only 1 post on nbr everyone believes this person has a retail version of the m980nu just because he says so.
think about it. -
He also posts on german forums......
-
Norwegian retailer/reseller Multicom told me in a mail -today - they are getting the Clevo M980 barebone and the GTX280's in in "a couple of days". They have advertised the new Clevo machines for nearly a month though.
But I have changed my mind - cancelled the M980 order and ordered the D900F instead. -
Why does he report no overclocking, yet you've overclocked yours? Different method?
-
Different BIOS.

500 for a second GTX 280M is a huge amount of money, sounds like he got the laptop with one card and then had to order a second from elsewhere? -
That is what they charge you for a 2nd card, in Germany.
-
@Neil, still waiting for your email, have you received mine?
-

I've been out the office for a couple of days, only got about 60 more emails to get through
so I'll keep an eye out for yours

Hey guys,
I'm not trying to make a "vs" thing here but I'm just curious why you guys are willing to wait months longer to get the M980NU instead of getting the M17x.
The M17x has been available for purchase for more than a month now and has proven to be a well built stable platform. It's got the same chipset, quad capabilities, 260's and 280's options and has a smaller AC Adapter and has proven to cool effectively.
Is it that you don't like Alienware or the Dell complete care warranty, or do you just prefer the Clevo brand or 18"+ size?
I mean we all know how short lived new tech is these days and by the time you guys finally get this cool new rig in your hands newer tech will be right around the corner. This is always the case, but even more so with the delayed release of the M980NU.
It's your money and of course you should spend it on whatever you want. I'm just curious why you would wait for this tech.
EDIT: I understand why folks outside North America would wait due to higher costs for an Alienware. -

i know what you mean but because clevo has so many resellers with good warranty, xoticpc, kobalt, etc.,
they also can get parts to upgrade when ever they want. (people, resellers, stores, sager)
the features that clevo has(fn+1 always on fan).
all these feature and choices that you have with clevo alienware is just getting them(upgrades and service)
that's my belief on why anyway. -
I want a full review of the M980nu and to make my own comparitive analysis between both laptops. Major important items on my checklist are the quality of the LCD, Overclocking capabilities, CPU/GPU cooling, and overall build quality including how all components make the whole machine superior. I also prefer to build my own rig from a barebone.

i'm still waiting to see whats in the bios
-
back on topic...
any idea when exactly there going to ship it in mid-july?? -
i wish i knew. ive got hardly any finger nails left through frustration.
-
hope is not getting delay.....I waited for the W90-A1, cancel my order to wait for this one....

Please stay on-topic in this thread; I had to delete several posts. Thank you.

You'll no doubt be very pleased. The 280's have no overheating issues in the M17x and Clevo usually does a good job with cooling too.

18.4" and the option for a third hard drive is a massive selling point. -
Thanks for the replies. The M980NU looks like it will be a stellar rig!
-
Because Alienware is a horrible company that wise people do not trust and has amassed a legion of anti-fans (to balance the tons of legions of mindless fans that have been mesmerized by the lights)? Because Clevo has proven to be able to deliver products and costumer service that are of quality? Because people that have seen both worlds will very hardly go back to the dark stage where Alienware plays their puppets?
Some of those reasons are certainly true for many of us... -
Your living in the past...AW is a changed company since the full takoever by DELL. The very first laptop made under the new DELLienware, the M17x has been solid for the majority of the owners so far, and there has been no customer service complaints relating to the M17x so far. The M15x is still putting out duds here and there but it will be replaced by a new system in a month or two and we will see the full end of what was once the "old" Alienware and some of its subpar products and customer support.
-
Don't get me wrong... I am completely aware of the "present" and the many changes AW has gone through. And I can tell you that I will never buy from AW again. And if AW and Dell are a marriage made in heaven... how can they still be putting M15x out? Do you think that says much for their respect for their costumers?
Anyway, I don't want to go into brand wars here. I was just trying to answer to a question made by someone here. Why don't people buy the M17x instead of the 9850? (this was not really a question, but a propaganda move... that's how I "felt" it when I read it). And I answered... because many of us do not like AW for this or that reason. And that's all... -

So, why then do we get at least 10 calls a week from Alienware customers asking for batteries, AC Adapters, video cards and other parts that Alienware refuses to sell them, just because they are out of warranty?
The crazy part is Alienware gives them our contact information. -
Cmon...don't be coy, or are you just being rhetorical. As much as a stain the old M15x will become unto DELL until the new M15x is released, they simply can't end sales of their only 15' laptop until the new one is released. Also DELL does honor warranties to second hand laptops in the US, I can't speak for international policy. I also felt Rob41's statements and questions were kind of propaganda/inflammatory to myself and certainly Clevo owners, but don't pretend to take the road by claiming you don't want brand wars when your post clearly has just those intentions. P.S. I have come to love Clevo/Sager recently, I was hoping this could remain civil and felt I had to intervene to an extent ;P.
-
I understand... but I'm not the one here taking time to make "innocent" questions that really do not have any other possible answer than the one I gave. It's not me and the tone of my post that you should question...but Rob's! If you want to keep it civil... it's Rob's post that you should be replying to, not mine. I was giving the only answer that his innocent question deserved.
ps: Oh, and yes... I do really dislike AW and everything related to it. It's just like this...
-
That is truly ironic.
-
i would coment but i wont as ive had a couple of posts deleted already on this thread.
OMG!!! milcs is back
welcome back bro,long time no see.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
That's why I am glad AW isn't using plain-jane, generic, odm systems from Clevo
Can't wait until the M17 is removed from AW's website so I won't have to look at a clevo again!

The M17 isn't a clevo, it's an Arima/Flextronics...Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
LOL you beat me to it
@ Milcs you just hate AW ...
ignorance is bliss for you
So we can all just Semi-ignore your comments as you would ignore every good think and turn it into bad
Either machine will be a great buy ....They will perform EQUALLY....just buy what suites your purpose.
I can't wait to see every one to get their hands on the systems so that 12k in vantage can be broken ( its at 11,9xx right noww )on the GPU's
Crappy as that is, its business (abeit sub-par ).
At least you get money
And when was the last system AW released that wasn't exclusive ... like the m9700
?
-
I just want to see some WUXGA DX10 Very High Crysis 30 FPS bliss ~
And when I buy into a new RV870/GT300 M980, it better be getting 30 FPS on one card
-
That's why I didn't even bother to reply to milcs name calling and insults.
I clicked on his name and looked at his posts and they are full of trolling and anti-A.W. rhetoric.
Like you said Moo, either machine is a great buy. And I look forward to folks getting their M980NU's. The more people ringing out all the performance that can be had in these rigs the better.
-
The only reason I replied was because of your post. You are acussing me of an anti-AW rethoric, but just read your post... it's so full of pro-AW rethoric that I couldn't let that post go unanswered (and believe me, it would take a lot for me to post again on this forums).
That post is dissimulated trolling anti-Clevo pro-AW. Which doesn't make you much better than me.
Anyway... keep smilling. -
"Pro rhetoric" is a positive thing.
"Anti rhetoric" (flaming) and name calling, is a negative thing.
That's the difference. Also supported by clicking on our names and doing a post search.
milcs, if you insist on continuing this "discussion", can we please limit it to PM's rather than taking this thread off topic?
-Sorry guys, I didn't realize my post would cause anyone to get upset. It was never my intention. -
Yes, for me also the 18.4 is a big deal.
-
Agreed, that screen will be amazing.
-
I actually saw a 18.4" in person for the first time and wasn't sure what to think. It was a mainstream toshiba (nice finish) and the ODP display wasn't very good, it had a security bar covering the bottom of the screen, so it resembled something like 18:10, lol. It's wide, but the chassis wasn't as large as I thought it'd be. Just rambling..
