Clevo M980NU aka Sager NP 9850 aka AWESOMENESS!!!

as a customer myself i just find it so unfair on the unsuspecting public that think they are getting the worlds first computer when so many OEM's have been taking orders for the last month to 6 weeks.

ok,yes i was excited to post the first ever pictures on here back in april when kobalt computers had the first ever prototype of this beast of a machine but they ACTUALLY HAD IT so this is why ive posted many times on this thread as until we all see it we wont believe it.

 

Let's just hope the delay is for something good - like enabling hybrid gpu or something.
Not that it matters much to me - I decided to go for the D900F.

Actually, I think Clevo should have waited with this machine, and got it to work with the upcoming mobile i5's and i7's instead. Core 2 is dead.

 

You won't see Mobile i7 and i5 actually shipping until at least October...but my money is on November.

Indeed. And indeed why I think the M980 is premature. Or too late.
Just the D900F launched now, and the M980 with mobile i7 in another 6 months sounds better to me. I don't think the M980 will sell very well.
But what do I know.

 

I agree something doesn't seem right. How the can be so so sure that they will be shipping the laptop tomorrow is beyond me, especially when it hasn't been released.

I just can't figure it out. Knowing my luck they will say the laptop didn't pass its 24 stress test.

I don't have a good feeling.

 

As Donald and Shyster have stated history has proven this is not the first time we have seen them jump the gun...

 

I just e-mailed them and asked for a photo to be taken of the rear vents where the power plugs in and they sent it to me.

We have confirmed with a Sager engineer that not a single "Final Production" unit of the M980NU has been shipped yet. The only units that have been shipped are testing units only.

 

(Almost) straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

 

Because they had photos of two slightly diferent M980NU laptops.

 

I called Sager and they said none have been released. However, they said eurocom has found a different way to get them.

If my unit is not bright and new I'll not be impressed.

 

From eurocom:
"We are shipping AIR via UPS- so you get it tomorrow - we will email you tracking number later today"

 

And which is supposed to be which?

Im getting a review sample of the M980NU from Novatech which should have been dispatched today and will arive tomorrow

 

A few questions.
Is a review sample the same thing that will be released to re-sellers?
Do the buyers of these sample units need to worry in some way about the quality ?
The warranty is the same, correct?
I'm confused about all the fuss about it.

 

From what Novatech have told me they have the chassis in stock now (final production) and are only waiting on Blu-Ray drives before they ship... The review sample they are sending me will be a mass produced unit, the only difference is I will send it back and not keep it.

Sager has just announced:

Due to component supplies shortage Clevo has delayed the shipment of NP9850 till Early August.

Also, the Video Camera spec changed from 3.0M to 2.0M and the single VGA card option has been removed.

HOWEVER...the price on the base unit has dropped $90...6GB memory has dropped another $90 and 12GB memory has dropped $130

 

Shame I was all set to buy a 9850 with a single card. Looks like AW might get my coin instead.

 

What's the update from ProStar?

 

a review sample will be slightly different as it wont have the full release bios and most probably only one 280 graphics card.
these sample units are not for sale and are demo models for the companys to review. these units wouldnt need warranty as they are only on demo for a short while and then returned.

thats what all the fuss is about as everyone that supplys clevos in the world are waiting for the delayed release and then one company says they have some for sale and will be shipping the first ones out to customers today or tomorrow.

Sadly the Novatech X1 (M980NU comes as standard with a single GPU so i expect that is what my review unit will have)... This was their official position on July 2nd...

I can confirm this. I just got in contact with Sager, and they actually said the camera is why the NP9850 is delayed. They said Clevo is having apparent trouble getting the 3.0 MP cameras, and Clevo is converting to 2.0 for the time being, so they can keep closer to their promised ETA. This means Sager's NP9850s and possibly Clevo M980Us, will have 2.0 MP cameras early in release (Early August, as they said).

After Clevo gets their 3 MP cameras, they'll start sending Sager the laptops with the 3.0. One thing, though, is that the guy I talked to said they have no idea when that will be, and Clevo probably doesn't know either from what I think.

So, in early August, don't be surprised if your NP9850 or M980NU has a 2.0 MP. Talk to your sales consultant if you would rather wait for the 3, an option stated by the guy. If you're using your camera for chatting, there'll probably be no real difference anyways. I don't care. I am unhappy, because I ordered from Sager, (I guess I didn't get my bearings before buying it from somewhere. Oh well) but I can deal with it. I'll still have a beast. xD

Also, the guy said the NP9850 has no integrated GPU, just the Single or Dual 280Ms.

UPS site says 16 Jul. It weighs 22 Ibs so they must have shipped me a bunch of rocks.

If I were a reseller I'd be asking Celvo why Eurocom is selling this laptop and others are not. If they are pulling a scam then they're taking business away from others.

Looking at the UPS scans it could be here tomorrow.

I don't know what to say about this whole thing. I've asked Sager to e-mail Clevo to see why only one company is shipping this laptop.

 

Isnt Eurocom though Clevos biggest Canadian reseller ? they might very well have more pull then anyone and is why they got them when no one else is .

 

With all due respect to every single Canadian here (and everywhere else, too), more pull than Sager, the largest (to my Knowledge) U.S. importer?

 

Eurocom also had the first order sheet out long before Sager did along with any other reseller, so again they may have some different pull. Also each territory is handled differently and its not always a world wide thing . Clearly if Dazman is getting one and No reseller in the US is something is up huh ?.

 

Eurocom has a history of pulling stunts like this. I would not be at all surprised if Dazman ends up with one of the pre-production models that Eurocom technically weren't supposed to be selling. Also, I would be rather surprised, given Clevo's less than friendly reactions to prior Eurocom nonsense, if they would suddenly start favoring Eurocom over Sager who, as far as I know, doesn't engage in sophmoric shenanigans.

 

Things that lead me to not believe it is a pre production model is the fact he only ordered a couple days ago , clearly Eurocom would have had many orders since they first put up that page for pre orders ?. How many pre models do you think they could get a hold of ? hundreds ? not likely.

It's not suprise Eurocom often get some samples earlier than other resellers, but not much.

 

My whole thing is that if he ordered 2 days ago would he have been shot right to the front of the line like that ? they surely must have had many pre orders for the machine i would think .

 

there price is fairly high compare to other reseller. Maybe that why not a lot of people order from eurocom. Also eurocom is a canadian company. Won't US or UK get any custom fee if they buy from them?
