Can I ask what your vbios version is?

You probably wont get much of an overclock at all with those volts, but should be cool.

The voltage on my card was 1V.

I have it now at 1.075V, seems to be very good. Anything higher and I could need a cooler (which I am looking for).

Looks like different vendors are selecting different voltages, lowering them because the chips are actually good for it and they want to reduce risk.....

Some news ... after some week of testing, i think i have found a nearly perfect vbios for GTX680M in P150HM, this vbios is a modified version of the MSI FD provided by SLV7.
You can find here Using your 4GB GTX 680m to its safest and full potential

The Gpu with this vbios has a voltage of 1v in charge (0.962v with original vbios, 1.12v with saltius ...), with this vbios i have no shutdown anymore, no throttling ... The idle bug appear only with furmark. Peak consumption 184W peak temp 89°C after 2h30 of Crysis2 (ambient temperature 28°C)

    Now Some testing

nice! glad to see u finally got a golden middle ground vbios for the 680m beast ;)

also awesome to see that u get exactly DOUBLE the performance in metro with an OCed 680m as opposed to an OCed 580m, hahaha ;)

@killer : it's weird ... I never have problem @854/2400 with stock vbios or OV vbios cause the only way to go higher than 180W is to launch furmark (or msi kombustor) and prime 95.
I begin to have power related issue when i try OC higher than 915 with saltius vbios or slv7 ...

In that test HTWingNut's Sager NP9150 (Clevo P150EM) Review with LOTS of 680m benchmarks!

You can see peak consumption and peak temp on a P150em with GTX680@ stock - @854/2280 @1000/2400

Do you have verified that you haven't got overheat issue with cpu or gpu?
Do you measure the consumption of your laptop with a wattmeter?

@Jaybee: Thanks, this card is a monster ... with the frequency of 1005/2400 it reach the level of performance of a desktop GTX660ti, performance gain depend of games: (up to 80% or 100% more than a OCed580m), some games seem cpu limited with the couple 2860qm and gtx680m, like just cause2

I checked my temps , they never go above 86ish , what i saw avg wise that my psu consumes on stock is 174 Watts which is a bit high (-_-)

When you say "on stock" you mean @854/2400 and stock vbios or stock clock with stock vbios ...
Btw a peak of 174w is high but is in the range of the specification of the psu ...

Do what I did and wire your own lol. It does need it though, the connector is different on the asus.

However since you can take it apart using screws it is an excellent candidate for it.

Also from taking it apart, the impression you get is of being made well.

Also is your 2720QM OEM or one of those Q154 unlocked versions?

I believe the so called "HM vbios" that people use to get the 7970m to work with our systems actually has the voltage set to 0.975.

I think mine was like that as well. Then I flashed a modded vbios from svl7 to get 1.075 (seems to be the best for me, not too hot and yet a good overclock):
    AMD 7970m - modified VBIOS - Page 14

Also I only asked about your CPU just to find out if the Q154 is really unlocked or not, but since yours is OEM then forget I asked :)

You could ask your friend to run GPUz and dump the vbios he has, then flash that and see if you get 1.05V.

My temps with max fan speed only reach 80C with the GPU at 100% usage mining bitcoins overnight (this gets it hotter than furmark).
room temp is usually 18-20C, just the way I like it.

That is with the core at 1030mhz but the vram at stock 1200mhz.

While gaming, the temps don't go anywhere near as high. Probably could go with 1.1V if I were only gaming.

Note: I use a coolermaster U2 as a notebook stand (fans have been removed).

Oh and yes overdrive is missing for me as well, but I use MSI afterburner to overclock. Not sure how to get overdrive back.

thats the thing, theres only one version of a hm modded vbios out there, but it sometimes results in a few cards at below 1.05v stock core voltage. its the same vbios tho!i for one am using the same file im providing in the blind-flashing guide and im getting 1.05v.

Also can you open Msi afterburner at the same time with unofficial OC set to the value of 2 in the configuration file for afterburner?

Unfortunately, I have experienced some 7970Ms having a locked voltage @ 0.975v and even after flashing a higher voltage vbios, nothing would change.

Though, the card was fully functional and working pretty good - temps were very low due to the lower voltage and it still had some O/Cing room! Nothing to worry about.

id follow pauls advice, check and see what ur max stable OC clocks are,im sure that 900-950 core is totally possible. and since only the core is affected by the voltage u can reach the usual OC clocks on the memory :)

What GPU did you have before the upgrade?

Last thing to try would be to use ccleaner to completely get rid of every trace of AMD drivers and software before you install it again.

What are average OCs? Im currently running at 975 core/1300 mem stable in games, haven't done a full stability test yet though. Anyone have any input on unlocking the voltage control? I doubt I can go too much further without raising the voltage.

EDIT: Just read back a couple pages, seems you guys are having no luck either.

Actually for most of us the modded overvolted vbios works to increase the voltage.

1.075 seems to be very nice, myself I get 1030mhz on the core.

Not sure why johnnyman27 is not having any luck getting his voltage up.
    I'm out of ideas.

Other than this last question, @johnnyman27 did you take out the CMOS battery while doing the upgrade or not?

Maybe you could do that now just to make sure everything resets.

    Stock voltage for those clocks.

I don't really need to overclock at all, the only game that is choppy is the Witcher 2 completely maxed(min 24fps), im just interested to see how close to ~280 watts im getting. Dunno how I feel about messing with the vbios :/

guys i just make my voltage to go 1.050v!!!!i can even make it 1.070 without the need to flash overvolt vbios!!!i used this guide to make a profile!!!
also i enabled overdrive in ccc via this trick.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe" -xcl

then it asks u to restart ur pc and voila overdrive option is enabled in ccc.
here is a vantage run!!the temps are little high cuz i have 28 celsius in room!!
