The 7970m is fast as hell without OC - the 680m is a very good OC beast, but i'm pleased when games run as i wish and with the 7970m at stock i'm able to play anything i want in resolution and settings that i prefer :) (BF@Ultra - runs smooth even without OC.. i will OC when games will be under 40 FPS ;))

amusingly everything works without a problem - Temps are OK, No BSOD etc. - My reseller told me that i can use the Book, but i won't, because the risk of damaging the whole system is given.

When a component fails you can get spikes that cause hidden damage to other components so getting it replaced is the best thing.

You also don't know if the obvious component dying was the first part of the chain.

The card was delivered to me in this condition ;-)
So my reseller will exchange the card next week - have to wait till wednesday i think.

I think this blown campasitor is the reason why i'm not able to OC at the moment.. in 13.1 and 13.2 beta 5/6 i don't have any option.

So i will wait till my new one arrives.. shutting down laptop now.. *sigh*

I would not run a card in that state in a machine, it's just asking for trouble, let alone OC it.

Yeah crysis 3 could well be a 180W brick killer game for those that have overclocked a lot as the power draw is pretty huge.

Glad the brick is working out for you.

i wonder how much of a perf. bump the hd+ vs. the fhd res will give in this case, especially since the latter has basically 44% more pixels to render.

Quite significant I would have thought due to the big cut in pixels.

@Meaker: I have recorded a peak @213W at the outlet in my Crysis3 15Mn test ... FC3 can draw much more power (i have put the 230W PSU in security mode) if you want to see a huge power draw in FC3, disable vsync, then in game take a hang-glider and fly over the sea, and look not in front of you, but under you. (this is the only game that draw so much power. Even a one minute Furmark test gave me a maximum of 220W, that's weird) .
I have reduced the amount of power by activating the adaptative vsync.

@Jaybee: like i have a 27 inch screen for the low demanding games, i can make a Crysis 3 test in 1920x1080 if you want. I think that you can substract 4-6fps in 1920x1080.
For certain, It seem to be a slight decrease but in a very demanding games like Crysis 3, i think it can make the difference.

"btw, crysis in french sounds hilarious! " I know, i would prefer playing with an Original Subtitled Version but games that offer this option are quite rare. Btw it allow to avoid spoiler ;)

    Hi,

got the exchange card today, changed it.. problem.. under Windows Performance Index i get a white screen.. when i benchmark with 3DMark11, the card don't clock to 850/1200 stock clocks, she uses the 2D clocks.. after i changed the powerplay setting to max on battery and ac, the clocks were in 3D Mode OK - but i got an black/white lined screen after the benchmark finished. Temps were normal at 64 °C under load.. Changed the drivers to 13.1, 13.2 beta 6 and 7 - same problem :(

Now i changed back to the card with the burn mark - i have not changed anything - she is running normal, no black/white screen etc - load temp at 63 °C ...

I wrote to notebookguru what to do now - i dont want to send my book to them for a work (card change) what is done in 10 minutes.. waiting for an answer right now. I will run the system now with the burn mark card cause i dont have any problems so far, system runs stable.

Got another question => After i updated to 13.1 and then to 13.2 beta 6 or 7 - i don't have any Overdrive Option @ AMD CCC - why? Cleaned the system with driver sweeper - same problem, no overdrive option @ 13.1 WHQL.

    Greetings
    F1r3

Sucks that you have issues mate. Overdrive is missing by default - for some reason it has to be enabled according to the instructions Jaybee has in his blind-flash thread. (via running afterburner with the -xcl trigger)

Prema is a member here on the forums, you can search for his nick. I can't provide you with a direct link for the modded bios because it hasn't been released by him on these forums yet. However, to take full advantage of that 2920xm you would need to cross-flash the bios first to p170hm/sager 8170 (someone correct me if I have the sage no wrong) to enable intel xtu aka overclocking for the extreme series cpus. You could search for the thread by Jaybee that info on how to do it if you want.

Mobile cards don't officially support overdrive so you are effectively working around that.

First, I want to thank everyone for the help. If it wasnt for this forum I would probably still have dead laptop.

OK, so just to share my experience. I returned my 7970 card back to Belgium and got replacement. New card acted totally different - screen was just black, so I knew exactly what do to :)

I refered to the post by jaybee83: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-7970m-modded-vbios-clevo-p1xxhm-laptops.html and everything went smoothly. When I booted Windows I couldn't see vga adapted in device manager, so I got pretty scared. But fortunatelly after driver installation ATI 7970m was there and everything was working. Temperatures are <70c in full load and cooler isnt loud at all. For past 15 days I didnt have a single glitch whatsoever.

Again thanks everyone, especially jaybee83 for all the help.

In the two others videos, you can directly compare the scene where Psycho give the arc to Prophet like the movie camera is driven by the game, you will see the real fps difference.
This scene apear at 1 min 37s in Crysis3_Opening_Part3 and at 0 min 31s in Crysis3_Opening_1920x1080_Part3

    1600x900

well, technically i DO have an unlimited data plan, only that my provider restricts the bandwidth from HSPA+ to GPRS once 300MB is reached. on the other hand, i only pay 10 bucks a month for that and its usually more than i need :)

and yeah, just finished moving to a new city! gonna start off with my PhD soon :)

Best of luck, my wife is half way through her chemistry PHD at the moment, pretty stressful times!

Pretty sucky on the bandwidth there, I get truly unlimited so long as I don't tether, which I don't really need to do on my Note II as it is awesome :D Does cost me £36 a month though.

Been working hard on reducing temps in crysis 3 of the 680, starting to get there now.

    Hello

    I am a newbie.
I have a clevo P150HM PC. I bought a bare 7970M card. Is an upgrade kit also required for cooling?

    Thanks for answer

ull have to make sure that the heatsink u have in ur machine is compatible with the 7970m, proper heatpad placement is critical in this case.

the latest 13.3 beta 2 driver seems rather stable for me - increased core max stable clock to 1035 from 1000 (at least in crysis 2 bench and 3dmark13)

No answer after my exchange card is faulty from the reseller.. seems that i have to go to a lawyer... now i've two 7970m at home.. one with burn marks and stuck pixel problems in 2d, in 3d everything seems fine and the exchange card without any burnmarks, but after 15/20 minutes of benchmarking the screen went white or black/white but sound etc. is still hearable (@3dmark13). Temperature seems fine till the screen gets stuck.. temps about 64 °C..

Is it possible, that the vBIOS may be corrupte or the voltage is to high for the GPU Chip? Cause my first 7970m has a voltage of 1.00v and the exchange card uses 1.05v - seems to me that the card is using another vBIOS Version. I still think about to extract the vBIOS of the first card and try flashing it to the exchange card.. maybe it works?!

    Any suggestions?

could be any number of reasons, why the exchange card doesnt work, no idea. u surely could try and flash a different vbios, see if it helps. concerning the vcore its not really clear what the reason for differing values is. ive seen a lot of people having flashed the modded vbios linked to in my sig with different vcore results ranging from .95 to 1.05v. even tho they all used the exact same vbios!

Hm ok thank you jaybee. Any suggestion for the sometimes getting stucked pixel? Could it be a driver or windows isue? I used driver sweeper about 10 times because i switched the graphic cards and drivers very often to test them cause of the not functional exchange card.

I'm at 13.1 now, in 3D everything is fine in windows/firefox sometime some pixel on the right screen side get stuck or not refreshed - after scrolling or minimize/maximize everything works fine and then without any signs thye get stuck again.

    greetings
