Definitely was the bios and still is the bios. Wasn't a complete fix, but it fixed another problem I had before. I wasn't able to use standby before without having problems starting up again, but now that problem has been fixed.

    Edit: updated drivers to 174.31

I agree that we still have a ways to go to fixing this issue completely but at least we know the cause of the issue rather than just speculating if it was bad drivers from nvidia/bios on videocard and the like. Now Sager (hopefully) can focus on the issue with the bios and issue a complete solution.

    What wasn't completely fixed?

So the only way to avoid drivers downclocking the 8800M is to update the bios to the new 1.00.08? Was it Clevo that had a faulty bios all along? But I cannot find the bios in the download section at www.clevo.com?

they don't provide the bios on the site you have to email them with your serial number and please before you post again read a few of the threads I've already provided the most recent bios update.
While this update does allow the installation of new drivers without downclocking it also will not let you overclock and if you manually downclock the card you have to restart the computer to get it back to stock settings.

Bwhxeon...so would you say it would be a good idea to flash the BIOS, are you getting much better results with the new drivers? I have been thinking of the flash but i really do want to see if its worth is...and to get this info from a reliable source!

Dunno for some reason crysis has been a pain in the butt lately, it keeps stuttering even when getting 40 fps. Every other game plays great :D especially the orange box. Just picked it up the other day and it was well worth it. All my games do seem to play a little better, but for some reason crysis has just been a pain.

Cool thanks for the info, i do believe im going to give it a shot. I mean if i cant update the cards drivers than its pointless to have a high-end card. Crysis though is a hog of a game as we all know and i have pretty much quit playing it. I really have to get into the mood to play these days. Cod4 is just WAY to good and my clan is now TWL so my time is spent else where ( as gaming is concerned). Also I saw your detail instructions for the flash on the other threads and I as know how to do this already I feel non the less its good info to have in the Clevo forums..so +rep.

:D yah I know how you feel about crysis, but I was actually starting to get into the multi player. Orange box will be good enough for a while, I really like games with a good story.

I use 174.20 for my SLI 8800m GTX and they work great with that Driver, also I am currently overclocked to 600/1644/900.

Strange you Clevo guys has problems with your 8800m GTX downclocking itself. So it was a bios issue after all? Dell didn´t have these problems.

Thank you, I will ask Clevo support and my reseller for the bios update.

I started this thread and follow it carefully. Thank you for linking to the bios file, but I prefer to download bios from a reliable source, therefor I wondered where to find it at Clevo's download page. It's kind of risky to download and install a new bios if not from the reseller or manufacturer I think.

Is it confirmed that this new bios will make all graphic drivers for 8800M playable at full speed with Vista on a Clevo M570RU?

The only drivers at full speed I have found is the original ones and they stutter a lot in Vista. Has anyone with Vista tested 174.16 or similar with 8800M and confirmed full speed (without stuttering) on a Clevo?

    Hi GZ,

i can confirm that the bios update makes other non stock drivers run full speed on vista.

I own M57RU with 8800MGTX from Novatech (uk reseller) and have installed the bios from eurocom v.1.00.08 and now the drivers make the card run at full speed. I have installed 174.16 and i can confirm it runs full speed, however i found that 167.62 gives best image quality and stabality.

***** im preety sure the bios given to eurocom were made by clevo themselves since they were the original manufacturer. They just gave it to eurocom cuz eurocom paid them to perhaps

Do you mean your guide for CD pasted below? Is it the same for USB? Step 1, 2, 4, 5, 6?

Edit: Never mind. I followed your excellent guide and made a CD instead and it worked fine. Thank you! At last, I now will have full speed with driver 174.16.

Edit again: I have normal score in 3Dmarks (8500ish) but according to the nTune log the clocks never exceed 275 MHz and 300 MHz. Is that a recording fault in nTune? Have you reached full clock speed while gaming?

    hi,

ntune will show the clock speed A 275/300 MHZ WHEN NOT GAMING.
when u start a 3d application such as a game it should clock it self higher to 500/800.

it does this because it is a mobile chip, it saves heat and battery.

Actually all nVidia chips do this, even desktop cards have two speeds, one for 2D and one for 3D mode. ATI does the same.

    if anyone is intersted:
Best drivers i found so far for vista 32bit and 8800MGTX:
    169.25 from NGO,

    NGO optimized drivers

very stable and good image quality and decent performance.

    167.43: 8900 (stock)
167.62: 8916 (good but wasnt stable, random crashes)
174.32: 8938 (wasn't stable in game -BSOD for me)
169.25: 8920 (has lowest temp when gaming and idle - 59-65/ 35 idle)

edit: you'll need to mod the .inf to be able to install this driver, the inf form laptopsvideo2go will not work with this driver.
if anyone is interested i can mod the file for them if they pm me or post in this thread.

Yes I know, I viewed the logged clock speed and also ran a second 3Dmark test after gaming. The graphic card had got stuck downclocked at 275 and 300 for some reason.

After a reboot I ran several 3Dmark tests and also played some GTR2 without problems. The clock speeds were 500 and 800 as they should. I will observe this to see if the card get stuck downclocked again.

With the new bios, will clockspeeds get stuck if they downclock through powermanagement aswell ? As if so, it dosent seem to be a very good solution, if one aint suffering from any troubles with stock-driver...

Sounds cool mate :) Cause im using mine, quite a lot on the road and would be very sad, having to reboot everytime it has been unplugged :( But if its just when downclocking manually, through RivaTuner or something alike, I can deal with it :)

    hey micloi,

u sent me PM but i cant send u reply cuz u choose not to accept pm, I saw u viewing this page so this is my reply:

hey there. i have the x80r but its the older variant.
it has an T7700 instead of the new T/X 9 series cpu.

if u get the x80r with the x9000 it should come ready with the 1.000.008 bios installed. which allows overlclocking of the extreame cpu i.e x9000.

as for the gpu im not too sure, i havent been able to overclock my card apart from standards drivers. I wouldnt reccomend overclocking anyways. I have updated my drivers to 174.74 and achive a 5-10 fps increase on crysis.

hope that helps. and novatech are a good brand, no probs so far.

    good luck mate

btw: all extreame cpus are 'unlocked' that allow overclocking, hence the high premium for one.

I do not want to over clock the gpu really but the CPU mostly as it is a shame to have the X9000 and run at 2.8
But when I asked Novatech they told me that overclocking of the X9000 is disabled in their bios!!!

Do you know if this is the case?

Even if novatech does supply a custom bios (which I find highly unlikely) you could just flash it with the sager 1.00.08 version to overclock

Im using the 174.74 with the new sager bios. These drivers have "smoothen" out crysis and now I downloaded the reality mod so im playing that again, everynow and then i get a crash to the desktop but i think it was my hotkey drivers that does this. Anyway let me know what drivers you guys are using so we can compare performance, etc.

    kathman, don't touch those bioses.

you need special bioses for your cards to function in SLI..

the .08 newer bios. is what you have. keep it and just dump it and manipulate it to get the clocks that you need..

    Naticus,
I don't want to appear mean, but if you are struggling at this point you may not want to flash your BIOS as if you do it wrong you can easily make your machine unbootable (or at least your video card unusable).

    just do dos commands :D

cd (dir the bios files are in)

then type execbios or whatever the thing is called

type dir to see what's in there.

then type the .bat file or the exe file or .com file
