I always use my Laptop that way with only the second screen enabled, still the same with newest driver (385.69) sadly![]()

This is unveliable.... I had to update the drivers to play bf1 and it still not possible to play with gysnc on. I have a 2600€ laptop and a 1000€ and gsync doesn´t work due to the ****ty drivers....when are we getting a solution?

I made a video of the issue. Experiencing the same? Nvidia look at this!
please see the mouse cursor and the fps counter top-left. It's unplayable.
-
Is this only when using dual screen? Or is this even when the laptop is closed?

Guys this will sound ridiculous but...
With the new drivers, these settings entirely eliminated the issue for me (at least in CS:GO). I'm pretty sure I tried this with previous drivers already, but the biggest thing here is the v-sync fast mode. It doesn't cap your fps , but g-sync is still functioning (I think) . Please tell me if I'm wrong and the Fast mode completely ignores g-sync
Can you get the same results? or was this just an anomaly? Haven't had time to test with other games. (G-sync is on from the global settings)
Global settings hasn't changed much.

V-sync fast disables G-sync when the FPS is above the refresh rate IIRC.

Yep the setting you select for "Vertical Sync" behavior applies any time the fps is outside the gsync range of your monitor.

I don't know why you guys are dismissing the Fast VSync setting fix. This also appears to fix the stutter for me - while still keeping gsync enabled within the range of my screen - but also obviously highlights the stutter as being related to enabling vsync when gsync is enabled.
-
Its a great technique but i prefer to use vsync off above the gsync range for lower input lag.

I guess we have to send again for the current driver a survey that The issue wasn't fixed. Otherwise nothing will happen. No one is answering in the forums.
I'll and you can also link my video to the survey, if your stutter looks the same. I'll also mention about the fast setting thing.

The link for the survey is on the first post.

Please submit a bug report to http://www.nvidia.com/object/driverqualityassurance.html
gsync causes freezes and stutters when frame rate goes below the gsync range on ALL pascal laptops using external monitors. Still not fixed. I did it before and it got put on the known issues after that. If we all do it they will fix it.
Edit: this is the same link that qwerty0025 suggested. Aka the survey. Sorry for being redundant lets get this done boys.Last edited: Sep 28, 2017qwerty0025 likes this. -
Hi all, thank god I found this topic! I first came across this issue back in March when Ghost Recon Wildlands came out, and always blamed the game for the stuttering between large scene changes.
It's only recently got progressively worse on my Blade Pro 2017, so this issue has been around for a lot longer than a month or two!

I got a Sager 8677s ( Clevo p670RE3A ) with 970m . Using Dell S2716DGR . MIni DP to a regular DP cable . Had same stutter when in the loading screen transition .
Ive got rid of the following issue by Uninstalling nvidia driver with a DDU utility . Then downloaded the latest ( 385.69 ) driver . Doing a custom install and unchecking ( ) nvidia 3d vision , ( ) nvidia high definition audio , i did not install Geforce experience . I left the Driver and PhysX options checked only . This seem to have fixed my issues . Then go to nvidia control panel > top menu in the upper left > Display > check G-sync indicator . In the Manage 3D setting : monitor tech - g-sync ; v-sync - Off . Restart ...
G-sync works in games for me , and no more annoying stutter when loading levels and such , or switching screens . On an external monitor through a DP port at 2560x1440@144 .
I hope this will help some of you . -

Has anyone been contacted by the Customer service after the survey/feedback? -
The way I understand it this is all happening due to changes made to adapt to the windows 10 creators update. I'm not running the creators update but maybe it's fixed if you are. -

In the geforce forums, there seems to be multiple types of stuttering related to g-sync. There is the stutter/fps drop directly because of the Creators update, which is a 0.5 second stutter in every minute.
Like this:
and covered here:
and then there is the MEGA stutters of us notebook users with external screens, which this thread is dedicated to and not to get confused with the other stutter issues. Ours cannot be fixed by rolling back to the Aniversary update of windows.
Then there's just other weird fps issues with the creators update.
Everything is just one bowl of stuttering related to windows 10/Nvidia.This is how I've understood it anyways.

I am on 10586 . G-sync works in games ,no stutter , latest nvidia 385.69 . Perhaps thats why no stutter. Kind of hesitant to upgrade win 10 to latest build now.

Installed 14393 , external display g-sync working properly , no stuttering . Latest 385.69 driver , but the driver and physx only . 10586 and 14393 are the only windows versions i have on a bootable usb drives . Will test 15063 or 15252 if i can get my hands on it and make a usb boot stick .
Edit : Does windows version make a difference ? Aka home-pro-enterprise ? 10586 was home , 14393 i can install in all flavors ( home , pro , enterprise ) . Enterprise version tested .hexum23 likes this. -
I'm on 14393 Pro and I have the issue still with 385.69.
-
.... could it be that home version works and pro doesn’t ? I have pro also. Anyone using home ?

Yes, I'm using Home, makes no difference

Can you describe the stuttering you are having . I am mostly messing around w WoW and D3 . The only slowdown/stutter i notice is when you hit Enter Game and the first second after you are in the game after the loading bar , there is that brief fps drop to single digits but then it shoots up to the regular 50-200 for WoW , 70-110 for D3 . Besides that games are silky smooth , gsync indicator is on . When i was on 385.41 and installed my 27" 144hz monitor i had same stutter , and it lasted for about 5 seconds every time after any sort of loading screen . That was pretty bad , but its mostly gone now on 385.69 with driver+physx installed only . I havent tested internal 17" panel w gsync yet , will update.

Yeah it is the longer (you could almost call it freezing) stutter. Happens on loading and menus mostly. And some games that load / stream resources while you play will be unplayable because it will happen in game alot. In overwatch it happens when i open the social tab. In heroes of the storm it happens in draft and in game.
-
Yes , i had the same thing in both WoW and D3 . I thought its a faulty external display or something . But its fixed now . Tried internal LCD panel w gsync , terrible results . While there is no stutter , but there is very apparent tearing in game , and its not buttery smooth as it used to be . Even though gsync indicator is ON , its just not working . In both win 10 versions . Also , ive only experienced this stuttering on an external monitor , never on an internal panel .
For my internal panel to work correctly i remember downgrading the driver down to something like 378.xx . I dont know what nvidia does in their headquarters , but they better fix that 200 dollar junk . We are paying extra for something thats broken . -
Man I hear you. I'm mad. But its not even clear who to be mad at. Is the windows 10 update really a huge clusterfuck for nvidia drivers? Are nvidia just lazy as **** and saying haha screw those stupid laptop gsync gamers? Is it a complicated issue that has so many causes and conditions to test that they confusingly thought they fixed it because thier fix worked for them but doesnt work for most other people?
Given that A)NVIDIA calimed it was a 1080 issue in their driver notes despite it affecting 1070 users and even you on a 970m and B)It seems to be fixed for you when using an external monitor but not for others of us using the same windows build (just pro not enterprise)
...I think that it is a mix of lazy as **** and hard to test/nail down.
The good news is that at least they have acknowledged that it exists and started TRYING to fix it.
Usually once a company tries to fix something in code and fails they will keep trying for a while. It just looks really bad for the programmers, management, and the company as a whole. -
Guess I'm not gunna be using my external display for awhile...

So another month... Im missing out on 5 months of updates.
I swear to god if they dont fix it by the end of november im posting on every forum on the internet about this problem. And not in a nice way. -

From the 387.92 driver list of open issues:
[Notebook][GeForce GTX 1080][G-Sync]: Stuttering occurs while playing games such as Doom, CS Go, and Witcher 3 on the external display. [1995267]
They're definitely working on it. Let's hope they fix it soon so we can enjoy it for a little while before the Windows 10 fall creators update breaks it.Papusan likes this. -

The problem I experience is anytime you switch the displays, say from internal back to the external or just unplug the external display and plug back in, theres a low framerate / stutter in Windows explorer animations and everything else including games.
The only way to fix is to reboot while only using the external display, then its smooth as butter until next time its unplugged.
