Hi
Massive improvement with the latest hotfix driver 387.98 . The issue is still slightly there as you can see in this video when I enter menus in-game, but overall it seems they found the a fix for this. Sorry messed upt the recording so no sound or fps
-
Issue still not fixed. Using latest drivers with Alienware 17 R4 1080. Playing Divinity Original Sin 2 and The Evil Within 2. Both have major stutter with G-Sync enabled and none with it turned off on my external ultrawide. So disappointed.

Windows Update here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 -
New official driver out everyone (388.00), and according to the release notes they have made it clear that this problem is limited to certain applications and the GTX 1080 mobile card.
[Notebook][GeForce GTX 1080][G-Sync]: Stuttering occurs while playing games such as Doom, CS Go, and Witcher 3 on the external display. [1995267]
I am downloading it as we speak... post your results and give them some feedback in the official feedback thread
I'll post update here once I get a chance.
Edit: A few minutes of testing on my GTX 1070 + PG248Q@180hz indicated that the update does in fact improve the problem ten-fold.
I'm able to tell that the problem still exists as I get drops to 1fps briefly in the same applications that the issue was present in before, but it doesn't last longer than a few milliseconds. Barely an issue.
One of the most obvious applications where the remenants of the problem can be seen is in Kodi, you will see what I mean with the short fps drops when navigating Kodi's UI.
A 7-month game-breaking issue has finally been (mostly) resolved. What a relief. Maybe I shouldn't speak to soon...Last edited: Oct 23, 2017hexum23 likes this. -
LOL the 1080 thing is just a troll at this point. Hey at least they mostly fixed it though. It seems like they really hacked in the fix this time. I will put it to the test because tomorrow destiny 2 comes out and I'm gonna want the optimized drivers.
Going to test it on heroes of the storm as that game will actually not even play on the broken drivers. Should be about as good of a comparison tool as I can come up with. -
Tested briefly with DDU install. Works really well

I'm picking up Destiny 2 this weekend so I'll have to install these drivers. Everything still working fine?

I've been hesitant to post that everything is working the way it should, but it does seem like everything is working now! The g-sync stutter with external display has not come back since updating to 388.00. So far I've put some good time into Destiny 2, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Divinity Original Sin 2, Fortnite, and no real issues. I might have seen a second of stutter during one of the menu screens in I think Overwatch, but I could be overanalyzing. So far I'm really happy. I'm still on pre-creator's update as a precaution with the older drivers. For others reporting the problem solved, are you running the last version of windows?

I now got the latest drivers and I got no lags anymore, but when I activate gsync and play the game warframe, I got lags in the mission selection... hopefully that will be fixed soon.

New NVIDIA hotfix driver 388.10 just released. Says fixes are for Kepler-based GPUs, but hey, couldn't hurt to try here, right?

If there is still micro lag from the bug then it might show up therehexum23 likes this. -
After testing with destiny 2 and alternating between the old working drivers and the new drivers, I'm pretty sure that the issue is no longer affecting my gaming performance.

Still getting stuttering Windows animations here on latest driver.
But doesn't seem to happen as often as on older drivers, sometimes when I switch displays its fine after a minute or two or sometimes it keeps stuttering until reboot. -

So if I bring the laptop back home and plug in external display it has the stuttering in Windows animations (but not always, sometimes might be fine), otherwise reboot while on external display to fix it.
No stuttering while using integrated display on Intel, i've always kept it on MSHybrid. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
So if you move the animations to the internal panel they look fine?

Give it a go, I'd be interested if it impacts the other with the G-sync panel plugged in.

#ForTheRecord:
I have just updated to 388 Nvidia drivers and I'm getting screen blinking on 3x of my 1440p screens when nvidia surround is enabled and G-Sync being turned off every 3 minutes or so... My 4th top centre 1080p accessory screen (which is not connected to the nvidia surround surround settings) never blinks. This 4th 1080p screen is not G-sync compatible by the way... weird.
I might have to roll back a driver...
Edit: Just updated to 388.13 and the blinking has stoppedLast edited: Nov 7, 2017 -
After a while of gaming on my external monitor I can safely say the latest drivers finally fixed the issues, hands down. Well done, everyone.
-
This is on MSHybrid, so Intel is driving internal, Nvidia driving external at the same time (extending).
But the stuttering while on Windows is defo still not fixed on latest drivers (using only external display after switching displays)
EDIT: Actually I think there may still be some stuttering on the external display while extended, just harder to notice at 60hz than 144hz.Last edited: Nov 20, 2017 -
ok so further testing, I've set the external gsync monitor as the primary, integrated screen as secondary (extending).
MSHybrid (external powered by Nvidia, internal by Intel).
the external correctly runs at 144hz and the internal at 60hz, but it still requires a reboot while using external for it to be properly 100% smooth, if you unplug / change displays it will stutter on the external display until reboot. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have you bug reported that to Nvidia?
-
Thought I'd make an account to reply here - thought I was just having problems with my own Monitor/Laptop set up (I have a Alienware 15R3 1070 hooked up to a x34a), and surprised and a little shocked to see it's a common problem!
I've updated to the latest drivers, 388.59 (12/07/2017) but still having the same problems - gameplay is fine but menus/loading/2d overlays seems to absolutely tank the frame rate to where it freezes for a tiny bit. If the monitor is not hooked up, then everything's fine.
Is anyone else still experiencing this or have the drivers of about November time seemed to fix it for most? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Is it across multiple titles?
-
Hey, What's up guys?
Been really busy lately so no gaming here. I've been using 388.00 until this point. Any news regarding the old issues? They just released 388.71 any experiences?
-
-
Hey everyone. Here's my experiences so far.
GPU: ASUS GTX 1080 Strix
Driver: 388.71
I have a ASUS VG278HV (144hz) via Dual-Link DVI and ASUS ROG PG279Q (1440p 144hz, G-Sync) via DisplayPort. This is my normal dual-screen setup, and I have no issues when using it.
When I plug in an HDMI cable, my dual-screen setup goes off and my system switches to my large 60hz LCD TV that I use for couch gaming. It is here that I start noticing my issues. I have normal max framerates, but very common intermittent frame time spikes that see my GPU usage plummeting to 0. I noticed this around the time that the November updates went out.
Just thought I would share my experience in case any details of my usage scenario are useful. Hope there is a fix soon for this annoyance. -
-
I have an Acer X34 monitor and I'm running an Alienware 17R4. For me ever since the creators update back in April it started stuttering when I used my external monitor, and I had to use 378 drivers. Since 387 I can confirm that the problem has been largely rectified and its playable but it is 100% not as smooth as 378 drivers still. Microstutters when loading UI or people joining and leaving, I wish I knew exactly what the malfunction is but it seems like nothing but reverting is an option. Are we still making noise about this? Wtf did they do to gsync?
-
We could rally up again and make some noise. Twitter is also a good place to complain -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It can depend on the game too, something like shadow warrior 2 for me does not hitch but a title like dirty bomb just wont run properly in SLI anymore.
External G-sync monitor FPS drops to 0 /freeze/stutter temporary fix
