It would be for the 970M version since this thread title is for the P650SE. The 980M version is the P650SG, granted there isnt a thread for that model specifically. Thanks for providing the Nov 25th date ETA on that. -
Hey guys,
P650se now is available at xotic pc.
XOTIC PC | Sager NP8651 (Clevo P650SE) - 15.6" Gaming Notebook
So excited! I think I am going to buy it. -
I am holding out still for 980m but otherwise I would have put in my order!
-
Any info on the screens ? I have a Glossy IPS and i would like to install it, ( i already did that on an older p150 and HP latitude E5540), how is the front panel designed ? Are there any screws ? or just "clips" like the gs70 ,did they put any glue around the screens (I always found that annoying) ? thanks
For some of you folks who didn't check the laptop correctly (sanded version) :

I spotted that vid also a couple of minutes ago
Looks amazing..
Why are the ETA dates so different.? Here in the netherlands it is mid/end of Nov (4710HQ+GTX970M). In germany it is 7 Nov (Mysn.eu)
Only the price is a little higher in germany, almost € 200 with the same configuration. If it was the same price, i ordered it at Mysn.eu.
I think i have to wait 2 weeks for saving almost € 200
-
Yes, it is truly a fantastic deal compared to the GS60.
-
Hey guys, are any of you concerned about the high temps that notebookcheck review recorded for this laptop?
It's just as bad as the GS60. I'm not criticizing clevo, in fact I bought the P157SM a few years ago and admire their value for money notebooks...but I am a bit disappointed that with a new and larger chassis and the maxwell GTX970m, the P650SE/P651SE is still generating the same level of heat compared to the GS60. -
Unless notebookcheck stated specifically that they were using "max fans" on the test, they weren't. Also, haswell CPUs are hot as hell and very hard to cool. I have yet to see a laptop outside of the P17xSM-A and AW17/AW18 which have sufficient CPU cooling for those haswell chips.
Also, propping the back of the machine up a bit might help immensely with temps; I can see 10-15 degree drops in my P370SM3 by doing so on CPU alone (GPUs don't get AS big of a temp drop though). -
Any info on the screens for the P650SE?
-
thanks for those links.... there video for the brushed version as well ?
-
actually, looking closely I think this is the brushed version
-
I agree, I'm almost 100% certain the video is of the brushed version.
-
Yes sorry my mistake
. I prefer the brushed version anyway

The screen surround is clip on, though of course the panel itself is screwed in. No glue in sight! -
Thanks!
@clevo
whats the point of making some of the best laptops on the planet with no marketing ? Its 2014, one';d think that clevo would have high res pictures unboxing, hands on and review of the laptop to let people know its available. -
yes what i meant was screws around the bezel not on the panel itself ! Great ! Clevo didn't put glue all around the screen ! (Dell like that).
thanks for the info can't wait to put my LP156WF4 ips on it ^^. -

Dell had their edge to edge glass for a time which did mean opening was impossible.
-
I have a Dell latitude E5540 I can remove the screen anytime, but they put glue all around the screens, it was a pain in the a#s to remove it

Is anyone offering the Sharp LQ156D1JX 02 100% NTSC 8 bit IGZO panel?
-
Omitting a global PR and service network makes the product much cheaper without going the cut corners on hardware quality route.Kaozm likes this.
-
nice but a youtube channel with hands on videos and and blog post detailing the features of the laptop isn't "global P R". its couple of guys with a camera.
-
To be fair to Clevo, they don't sell directly to the public and each reseller/SI will have their own brand on the laptops. So it's up to the point of sale companies to create marketing, videos and photos which we then use to promote our individually branded products

Think about it like this! Beats by Dr.dre.. use about 40-80% on marketing, and you have to pay premium for crap sound.LunaP likes this.

yeah ^^, Klipsch for me is the best company out there.

The 4K screen is now the Sharp IGZO, cant verify the model number is the same, but not sure if they make many variations so it might be. -
As far as we know the Sharp LCD for the P650 series will be the LQ156D1JX01B not the 02, the 01B will be 72% gamut.
Forgot to add, the JX02 is a LCD cell only, not an entire screen, so it has no backlight etc. So it wouldn't work in this application. -
those 4k panels look amazing but our GPUs are clearly not powerful enough for that. unless you're only playing light games (LoL, CS, Team fortress 2, cvilization etc) and work in animation/photography, in that case even a 970M+4k should be fine.

Well the older games will look very nice
Plus some people prefer resolution over detail options, if you turn them down and do a bit of tweaking you could get a reasonable experience.

Also a good solution for gaming on the go and having a desktop for your big dog.

The 3k and 980M is going to work surprisingly well at native I think people will find.

Exactly, always the way to go.

Although only Clevo 980m P650SM though right? No Sager?
I'm thinking of going for the 4k and 970m and running at 1080p.tfast500 likes this. -
Why not the 980 version?
-
But we don't even know yet. Im pretty confident with the thicker chassis it will be on par as with the 970m
Cost I get... But from what I have seen it makes a bit of a difference in performance. If it was closer I'd also opt for the 970m but I'm willing to pay a couple hundred more for future proofing -
The other thing though, is that it's only about a pound lighter than the full size 15" notebook. If it were about 5lbs or less I could justify it. But with all the integrated components and likely sacrifice made to cooling, not sure if it's worth saving only a pound. Sager specs it at 5.5 lbs, Mythlogic quotes it as 5.7 pounds. NP8268 is 6.8 lbs.
And from what I've known in the past, I don't care how power efficient the 980m is, a laptop under 1" will have issues cooling that GPU.D2 Ultima likes this. -
If the np8268 had IPS display it would definitely be a contender for me.
-
There are plenty of Clevo unboxing/review videos already. But they are basically preaching to the choir atm. People who are not into this kind of machines already simply won't notice them. The kind of exposure big name distributors get is amazingly expensive.
-
How about the 17 inch sibling of P650?
-
Some french resellers told me that early december we'll have the P670SE and end of december the 980M version. (still 3gig and 4gig ).
Yeah, but the barebone is getting old, since the P150HM tbh we didn't see serious improvements, they need M2 ports, 2 HDD slots, WLED slim screen compatiblity, a revision of the cooling system : too noisy for it's efficiency. A better PCH cooling system (they don't have one yet, a passive heatsink should be more than enough, some clevos motherboards got fried by an overheated PCH), better sound system compared to the contenders that share the same price but have a good sound system. And, 230W psu option.Richteralan likes this. -
one of the first things im gonna do with my P651SG: get the dimensions of the PCH and buy a matching heatsink ASAP!
good thing is that the PCH is readily accessible on this model!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Wouod you use thermal glue or use tape to make it removable?
-
Those heatsniks have already thermal glue applied. you can remove them by putting some Ethyl-alcohol around and push moderately.
I think that if the PCH is not under the keyboard without any space to "breath" then no problems
. But yeah some RAM copper heatsinks cost nothing and can only improve even more the health of the PCH
jaybee83 likes this. -
How good are the "glue" on those ram heatsinks really? would it fall of eventually becauseit is upside down?
-
I use one of those on my arduino due board, it's quite sturdy. If you're not planning on throwing your laptop on the bed or going acrobatic with it it should hold just fine. particularly if it's not exposed to water, dust etc, even upside down. You can always add thermal glue around the heatsink a little in order for it to be really timeproof.
Kaozm likes this. -
How hot does the PCH really get??..
-
between 70 and 91° C for what i have seen on my old p150EM (91° C was too much but that's how it was with my laptop...my bro's ex P150EM was 15°C lower....)
-
thing is that the PCH chips are actually pretty heat resilient, official specs state a Tmax of like 110-120C! still, why not use extra cooling methods if u already have an easily accessible PCH, right? besides, itll prevent that extra heat from spreading to other internal components...
@meaker: what wickette said. id just slap one of those sticky copper heatsinks onto it
-
The PCH in my P170SM-A hit 108c. Too toasty for me. I stacked up thermal pads between the PCH and the bottom of the keyboard. Problem solved.
First look at the P650SE?
