Same price. Or it should have been.

Yeah, i think the 580's sold with notebooks are going to be the same price as the 485's, not more. -
Are nVidia FX Quadro cards unlockable to GTX Mobile via vBIOS change or stays the card a FX Quadro one? Im thinking about buying a leonovo and they have only FX Quadro cards. I would prefer ( i dont use AutoCAD @ home) using a GTX 460 m or 480 m
-
Why wouldn't they? I can't imagine 485M demand is that strong if no one but Clevo is even offering it. I imagine there would be some benefit to making it more 6970M competitive, at least on a price/performance metric.
-
Doubtful.
Keep in mind that the 485M + Heatsink launched at $750.
Expect the 580M to hit the configurator as a $150 premium over the 485M. -
meh, back to the 9800M GTX days...
I'll concede that the GTX 5xxM series may be different cores in that respect, but I guess cleaning up these cores (which is pretty much what they're doing) isn't really making things cheaper. When the GTX 280M came out, it used a cheaper process to produce vs the 9800M GTX, it had more shaders than the 9800M GTX and it was a good deal faster. Yet, it ended up being $200 cheaper than the 9800M GTX when it came out. So I really don't see how they priced the 580M is that much more over the 485M (or upped the mininum advertised price) other than cockiness. That being said, it's understandable seeing as it will be the fastest mobile GPU out there. And if the Radeon 6990M comes out and ends up being faster, I doubt that will change things as far as nVidia pricing goes... -
Honestly there is no point to have a 6990m to come out if it will have 40nm technology. 6990m is basically two 6970m's. Too power consuming and quite an overkill.
-
It won't change nVidia's pricing, because nVidia has a premium price tagged onto their cards. You're paying for PhysX as well as CUDA when you buy the card, technologies own by nVidia. This is why I like nVidia, because I use both technologies, and I find it worth it. As for normal, gaming-only users, if they want to get AMD, I don't really care, that's better for them. But there are people who will want all the features in nVidia (moving past fanboyism) and will pay for it. Because believe me, $300 extra to cut video rendering times down to 1/5 of the normal, non-CUDA time (for a business that's amazing) + PhysX in games like Batman: Arkham Asylum/Arkham City, Metro 2033/Last Light, etc? They see gold. =).
-
Nvidia does not "tax" for those technologies on the desktop side.
There's no technical justification for the price. -
Your getting the desktop 6990 confused with the Possible mobile version.
AMD will not be releasing a mobile Dual GPU card, the 6990 is going to be AMD's next top of the line Mobile GPU, one that if i had to guess would be based off of the 6870
6970Mobile = neutered (lower clocks) 6850 Desktop
6990Mobile = neutered (lower clocks) 6870 Desktop
My most educated guess of what a 580m will be,
580Mobile = neutered (lower clocks) 560ti Desktop
Either way our future (MOBILE GAMING) is looking mighty bright!
-
^ Except the prices.
-
LOL! of course prices for mobile users will always be a party, thats something that i DONT expect to change. you have to pay to play.
-
Lol yeah
Lol yeah can't wait for 2020... a cpu so small you can't see without a microscope and it is a hundred times more powerful, same for gpu. Mannn so looking forward for the future? -
But this is exactly what they are doing, selling for more than the "minimum advertised price"
My point was, nVidia MAP for the GTX 580M is less than that of GTX 485M. But OEM's have the right to sell for more than that minimum. So they sell their 580M cards for more the price they offer for their 485M cards. -
if i knew it was based off the GF114 fermi core then id prob get it. for $900 we're gonna have to see what it offers
.

580m NDA expiration? Resellers??? 6/22 or 6/27 at 12:01am ET?
My bank account wants to bleed!!!! -
Well my guess is that you will be buying a 580m
-
I want a P170HM. I can give you the specs. You can have my D900F in return. That'll still make your bank account bleed. =3.
Unless you're trolling... are you trolling? XD -
I'm 'trawling' for expiration dates... not trolling
-
Why do you want expiration dates on a card that isn't out yet?
-
So, be the first one to have this 580M and tell us what specification it has before the NDA expiration. I guess your bank account will really bleed with 2 of them on SLI
By the way the SLI kit for X7200 is $1734 shipped
-
He was looking for the expiration date for the NDA for those cards. He's fishing for a launch date without actually asking.
-
Here, here! It's just bloody greed!
-
When the NDA expires, the resellers will have launch dates so I can place my order.
-
Rumor has it is that both the 6970 and the 485 M have been backordered. The 6970m for stability issues and the 485m due to the pending launch of the 580m. Information is scarce to prove this in writing, these are just things I've heard from my reseller. My 8150-S1 is waiting for a video card currently, as neither are available.
TBH, I wanted a 6970m, until they pulled it for "stability issues." This makes me definately lean nVidia now. 580M here I come
-
Hmm, if the 485m is backordered, I wonder if the resellers will take my order now to secure a place in line.
-
You're right that GF114 isn't really any less expensive to produce than GF104. GF114 was a lot more of a rewiring of Fermi and a whole lot less (really not at all) a new arch. Transistor count and die size of GF114 is the same as GF104 so the cost of silicon is the same per die....but GF114 has better yields of fully functional chips than GF104 so Nvidia's margin per wafer is higher.
Lower cost per wafer isn't a savings that necessarily gets passed on to the consumer as even bad chips can make a profit as lower model cards. What better yields really just means is Nvidia gets to sell more GTX 560Ti/GTX 580M per wafer than plain GTX 560.
Then again I still remain unconvinced that GTX 485M hasn't already been using GF114. -
I would imagine that the binning for 580M is more stringent than for the 560Ti, meaning Nvidia hasn't really gained anything in terms of yield.
All consumers lose is the possibility for 560Ti's with more overclocking headroom. -

Check my sig. -
how did you get a 580m build...myth doesnt even have it as an option yet....
-
Who said he had it delivered yet
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Of course if you want to be in the very first batch shipped from Sager then why not ask.
_ -
Jesus, you have money.
-
I'm suprised to see so little comment from the resellers on this thread actually, I was expecting a few more nudge's and winks
-
*drools*....
You make me want to beg for my dream P170HM from you. Just know that.
On the other end, when building that, I've noticed that (at least on XoticPC's site) when you opt for SLI 485Ms (carrying over to 580Ms I'm sure) there's an option for it without an extra adapter/power converter, and one with. Is that extra converter necessary for those cards to SLI in that config? Or is it necessary to somehow connect two adapters at once? -
Just cut the power bricks in half and solder them together....voila 360W of SLI goodness
-
ohhh myyyyy id trade my alienware for that any day
-
Haha - and this is why I like Mythlogic ;-)
-
If it is NDA of 6/22, then unleash all information now because it is June 22 here in Norway
-
Getting close now, gotta keep an eye on this one.
-
Did you join this forum JUST to keep active track of the 580M's release? XD
-
Your sig tells me nothing, if an NDA keeps me from knowing the price paid.
-
why would anyone "pre-order" the 580M with no benchmarks anywhere for it???? so strange people...
You have to at least know what your getting your self into before dishing your bling... -
Because as of right now some of us have no choice, as of yesterday both the 6970 and the 485m mysteriously disappeared.....which leaves just the unreleased 580m for those of us wanting an 8150-S1 anytime soon.
-
You got it, buddy!
-
Hmm, at XoticPC it shows GTX 485m for 8150, 8150-S1 and 8170.
-
Check my sig... P170HM3 with 580M ordered. Worked it out with my reseller of choice
If Clevo has any other goodies (screen options, etc.), I have confidence that my reseller can work with me.
Foolish without benchmarks or reviews, but I'm ready for the upgrade. -
People who are pre ordering the 580m, how much$ is it?
-
If it costs the same as the 485 and performs a little better whts it matter? Whens the last time nvidia refreshed a model and it got slower?
-
That's a pretty big if IMO
Gtx 580m
