When did you order your rig? Did you have to wait long? -
I order my laptop last friday
I'v got it 2 days later (saturday and sunday)
I choose first the x200 but it will arrive in final of month so i cant wait ... i buy this fabulous machine... I LOVE THE SCREEN -
and what company did you buy it from?
-
I was about to say that's very expensive compared to NA retailers but then I noticed it came with a HD DVD-ROM
-
xenupy... what drivers are you using? i have the same setup but with 4gb ram and i'm getting 300-ish less 3dmark >.>p
-
Xelfer,
if you are getting 5500-ish... then you should not worry. Thats a good score already. -
yeah... runs games very nice so that's the important part >.>b
-
RJ Tech is selling it with wsxga+ GLOSSY option!
-
2000 euros? it says 2499 euros on the link you provided
-
It came with a problem tho... the keys (from keyboard, not the "hot keys") are misplaced :S i touch in "e" and it cames a "r" :S
But i never use the internal keyboard -
My 5790 from rj tech with the 7950 is coming tommorow!
Ordered aug. 10th. -
i'll still be waiting 2 more weeks
*cries* -
when did you order Kwakkel? and who did you order from?
-
i ordered July 17th
at www.rockdirect.com
first i ordered the 8700M, but those only come in end of august
after reading a WHOLE lot, i decided last friday to change to a 7950
but those are awaiting delivery as well
when I called in yesterday, sales did confirm it should still ship end of august though(be it with out my AZERTY kb, they'll need to ship that later so i'll have to build it in myself)
-
Hmmm, nice
I'm goin nuts waiting for my laptop
I bought it on my birthday. I think ordering it from xotic was the best choice for price at the time (and international delivery) but I think also everyone else thought the same thing. Now there have been delays with the gpu's and I'm not sure if I will be waiting for yet another month for the delivery of the new cards.
Do you think it's worth canceling the order and re-ordering with another company?
the price at xotic for the same rig has even dropped since I ordered. I know the tech industry is competitive but I've had some fairly bad luck so far. -
well, you cana sk them to change your price
i don't know how things work in th eUS, but in Europe, we have the legal right to return goods bought online, within 7 working days
it'd be silly to return it and order the same system for a lower price, so most likely they'll lower the price
as for ordering somewhere else: most companies have the same problems getting their stuff delivered, so i don't think it'll help a lot -
I ordered mine on 8-13. It's coming tomorrow 8-23. Xoticpc. Only took so long because i was stingy with the shipping. Of course UPS guy will park his truck outside my house and wait for me to go to work...then walk to my door and stick a note on it and drive off.
-
-
local store?? no??
-
no chance really....
if you live near one of the resellers/vendors.... you can probably ask to drop in personally to check out the unit.
I live in Southern California and drove up to City of Industry to check out Sager and Pro-Star. -
I hate UPS so much now >.> Let me tell you a story about today.
I pull up to the house, and am disappointed to see the dreaded UPS sticky on my door. Since I was in class, I wasn't there to sign for it, and according to the little sticky I can't leave my signature to authorize them to just drop it off tomorrow. So, I call the 800 number, and an automated voice (I'll call it Alice) tells me it's still early enough in the day to pick up my package, and asks if I'd like to pick it up, so of course I say yes. Moments later, Alice tells me they are processing my request, and UPS will call me back within the hour with further details.
So I'm at home relaxing before I have to go to work, waiting for the call. It's been an hour and 10 minutes, so I call the 800 number again. It's Alice again, and when I give my tracking number, Alice again tells me someone will contact me within the hour if the haven't already. It's been two hours now and no one has called me.
Ok, I go to the website to see if maybe there's a store I can call. I found one and proceeded to ring them up. Some nice woman answers the phone, and I ask her about picking up packages. She tells me her facility doesn't handle customers coming in to pick up packages. Now some time ago, I remember driving down somewhere to go pick up a UPS package so I ask her:
"would you happen to know the number of the facility where I can pick up packages?"
"oh no, we don't have that number, we only have the 800 number."
Ok...so I go back to the website, and I try to do a search for any customer support centers there may be. I find the listing of several customer support centers, and all of their phone numbers are the 800 number which I know is going to give me the run around with Alice. But I call anyway, and trying all the options I thought doable, could not transfer to a live representative.
My mother calls in from work and I tell her about the whole UPS thing, and she says she'd look into it also. While I'm still attempting to find contact, she calls me back and has someone on the line. We speak with someone, and he kindly gives us the address for the facility we needed and what time we could go to pick it up. I asked her, how on earth could she get someone to talk to? She dialed the same 800 number as me. You know what she did? She picked spanish instead of english and got a live representative, and when they picked up they were obviously very fluent in english.
One thing, however, was still unclear. He told us we can pick up the package after hours. He told us they close at 7:00 and we can only come by after that time, but he didn't say how long after closing. So now I'm on a hunt to find the phone number for this facility, and I knew Alice wasn't going to give it to me.
I use the address and check the white pages, the yellow pages, google maps, etc. I can pull up the location, but none of them have the phone number. The UPS website didn't have the phone number. But you'll never guess where I found it. I was lucky enough to catch someone's online resume on google who used to work there, and the phone number was listed under their work history.
With this phone number in hand, I call up this pickup place, and am transfered to their customer service, and I get a real person this time, what a relief. I explain to her that I was told to come pick up my package after 7:00, and wanted to know how long afterwards I could arrive. She started off by telling me they closed at 8:00 [hmm, thought it was 7:00], and I explained to her that someone from the 800 line told me I could come after hours, and she didn't have a clue of what I was talking about. I gave her the guy's name and she put me on hold. And that, was the last I heard of her.
Now, maybe I'm just retarded, but picking up a package shouldn't be that complicated. -
It sounds like there was a lot of miscommunication with UPS. Its my understanding that UPS attempts to deliver packages until 7:00 PM, at which point its delivery trucks would return to the UPS hub, and then off loaded packages could be picked up there. Perhaps the guy was refering to stopping by after delivery hours were over, and the trucks had returned with the packages they were unable to deliver.
Tell us do you have to wait another day, or do you have your new NP5790? -
As of that post was past 7:00 PM and miraculously we did manage to get everything settled. It just seems a bit odd that I'd have to go through so many loops just to get in contact with the UPS Hub since they know there are people who need to go there to pick up packages. That last phone number I called was the UPS Hub, and customer service didn't know what I was talking about when I said I needed to pick up my package after hours. And yet, when we arrived there were dozens of people there waiting for packages.
So yesI do have it and it's very sexy looking since I got a custom paint job on it. Just gotta get everything installed now.
-
pics of the custom paint please.
-
yes custom paint job pics please
-
I don't have any camera other than the one built into the laptop. Think that'd work with a little mirror action? hehe
-
Yay. Laptop is being shipped out right now! Wahoo! (Think my package will arrive sooner because I live in Southern California?)
Thing is, the estimated delivery date is on the 29th -
Did anyone here that ordered from Xoticpc get their free USB pen drive and extended warranty paperwork yet? I was told they would ship the pen drives at the end of July and some third party would be sending the extended warranty paperwork.
-
-
My NP5790 just shipped today finally. Apparently sager held it for an extra day for testing when I called and switched to the 3 year warranty which is strange. Anyone else run into this?
-
What makes the NP5790 run so hot and noisy? Is it the 7950 GTX GPU, or a problem with the cooling fans? I was going to order one but I'm hesitant due to those issues...I wanted something that portable and that I can use without having to use a cooling stand.
Would the 8700M GT GPU run cooler than the 7950 GTX?
I also wanted to know how many watts the AC adapter on the 7950 uses: 90? 130? -
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
The power adapter for the Sager NP5790 is 120W. The 5790 does not run hot, what made you think that? The fans are not loud nor noisy, there is nothing wrong with the fans.
You don't have to use any laptop with a cooling pad, it would just help lower temperatures with one, it is optional. A 17'' is not ''portable''.
I think the 8700M runs cooler. -
Agreed. A 17" isn't really a travel and work type of computer it's really a desktop replacement. Then again I have been doing exactly that as in traveling and working with a 17 inch for years. I <3 my huge ass old Toshiba satellite where you have to take the battery out to hook up coaxial cable
It's really not hard you just need to use non-conventional laptop bags. Just don't count on using it at all in coach. Also the general consensus I have found is that the 8700 does run a bit cooler than the 7950.
-
the 8700 should run cooler, cause it's baked on a smaller design and uses less power
as for the noise: i'll let you know i 2 weeks *sigh* -
I read quite a few posts about the 5790 running hot + loud....
I don't consider a 17" unreasonable for a portable laptop, as long as the 5790 is about the same size as the Dell Inspiron 1720. I think the slight increase in size/weight over a 15.4" is offset by the better screen + GPU options. -
I've just been informed by Justin that my 5790 is being preped for shipping now and will be sent within 24-48 hours. ETA for international shipping between 5-15 working days. I should have my new laptop within a couple of weeks! yay! I'm stoked and it's about time. It's a shame (for me, having to wait) that so many ppl ordered this model at the same time as me from the same company.
I wonder if I would have received the order more quickly if I'd decided on another company... oh well, never know I guess.
(While I've been waiting for delivery I've stripped down, cleaned and put back together my pc, re-organised the hard drives and re-installed xp and software. I've also quit my job, written a book, got a new job, built a "cantenna" for my wifi from a 3L pineapple juice can and won the first 3 matches in the squash tournament I play each tuesday night. I cant wait to get my laptop!) -
theoak1: you might want stop dissing the 5790. you're basing yourself on only a few posts (the first of which has stated he was wrong), while the majority says it's pretty to very quiet, they certainly aren't saying it's loud
-
-
As for it running hot, I can't say that it does. Even when gaming, my HDD is what seems to get the hottest (50-something Celsius). The CPU and GPU tend to stay pretty low, comparativly speaking. I'm also not using a notebook cooler, but I have contemplated getting one just to stay as low as possible, especially in this country.
As for the fans being loud, well we've already established that I'm not a good candidate to judge thatBut I'm still sticking with my saying they're quite quiet

I'm not "dissing" the 5790, other people have already done that. I'm just saying I didn't order one based on some of the other posts. I have read more negative feedback about the 5790 than I have about the G1S...
-
Oh well, better late than never. Make sure you let us know when yours gets to you. -
btw, what build did you order?
-
I phoned them last Monday and the person on the phone told me mine was shipped on Friday (17/8). So if it really takes 7 business days then I should receive mine on this coming Tuesday... hopefully
-
oh that's sweet dude... when did you order it? must have been close to mine I reckon. You running xp with 3gb ram? 32bit or 64?
-
there are only a few posts from people who actually have the notebook and complain about it being noisy -
-
Wouldn't you know it, while cleaning up I found the cable to an old digital camera we thought didn't work.
Looks like I can post some pictures of it after all.
In my opinion it was a simple paint job, but very nice none the less~ (excuse the snackage, hehe)
NP5790- Can't wait!
