lol, I guess the symbol is "tiger" eh. I was just gonna ask that. ;)

It looks awesome! White trim looks great too. Very impressed!

What did the paint job set you back?

The white trim does look very nice.

    For the record,
I ordered my 5790 from xotic on.. 8/11 and it should be coming Wednsday, 8/29.

    WUXGA and 8700m GT.

One thing I'd like to do is paint the speaker grills and the silver tabs black to match the rest more. Someone wanna try and throw up a DIY tutorial? :D

Thanks guys ^^ Yes it is Tiger on my lid, surprised someone spotted it right away~ For the record though the trim as well as the lid are silver. After reading up on Xotic PC's website a little bit, I asked them to match the paint from my car on the laptop, and I gave them my car's color code. Since I believe it was classified as a full paint job, it was $389.

thats an average price for custom paint... although it should have been cheaper since it was a simple job.

With that price you can choose to get the entire notebook painted to your specs and your design. And its all warrantied.

    WoahMG.

17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200) S
    - Intel® Core™2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz w/4MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB
    - 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 7950GTX w/GDDR3 (User Upgradeable)
    - 4,096MB DDR2 667 PC2 5300 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
    - 100GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA 150)

All that for just 2,722.00USD :( That's almost perfect for me!

I see that under registration at http://www.xoticpc.com , UK is one of the listed countries. Has anyone from the UK bought from http://www.xoticpc.com?

they sell the same exact notebook (Rock Xtreme 770) and is based in UK.

Indeed, that's where I ordered (though I'm from Belgium)
If everything goes right, they should receive their 2nd batch with the 7950 this week, and the 8700M next week.
If you hurry, you might get yours quickly ;)

Thanks for that link. I've been recommended rockdirect before it's just that for the same specs, I'm gonna be paying 4000USD as opposed to 2700USD.

with the 2700 USD, you will have to add VAT (in the UK, 17 or 19%?)
then the picture starts looking a bit different i suppose :)

i configured mine for 2000 pound (the X770-7700, with everything maxed out, just no HDDVD but an additional power lead, battery and FDD) ... that is aprox. 4000 USD
at sager, i configure the same notebook for 3658 USD (that is with a 3 year warranty (which Rock also offers as standard), and the pixel guarantee). If you add 17% VAT, you get to 4279 USD. And, should you ever need warranty, it'll be more expensive to ship to the US than it is to send it in the UK

    (I'm assuming you're from the UK, right? :) )

No not really. Even with a VAT of 17/19% (ours is 17.5) that would still work out cheap.

The only way it could match rockdirect is if there was a 48% VAT.

    Yahuh, I had that price.
Oh, I'm not getting my prices from Sager. I'm getting mine from http://www.xoticpc.com/product_info.php/cPath/51_150/products_id/2023?wconfigure=yes

But even from sagernotebook, I'm "only" getting 2929.00 for:

17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200) S
    - Intel® Core™2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz w/4MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB
    - 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 7950GTX w/GDDR3 (User Upgradeable)
    - 4,096MB DDR2 667 PC2 5300 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
    - 160GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA 150)
The whole warranty issue is of concern to me. That's why I'd rather pay dell £1500 for 1710 that on ebay I could get for £1000.

And Dell vs Rockdirect...Rock can't match dell on price.

For almost the same system, dell would charge £1300/$2600 and Rock would charge almost £300/$600 more (£1600/$3200)

Yes, that's unfortunately correct. lol :D

    ok, lets see :p

you're right about the VAT, if applied on the 2700 ... yet, the difference get slightly less :)

at Xoticpc, for the same build I had at Rock, it would come to 3411 USD, or 3990 USD incl VAT. Still a tiny bit less expensive, ... like 10 USD :) (it does include TVtuner and Vista Ultimate, but I had those at Rock as well, as well as the spare battery and the spare power lead ... just the artic silver is something that wasn't included with he Rock)
i do think the insurance at Rock is 3 year parts and labor, while the Xotic is only 1 year for the parts

as for the Dell: for getting nearly the same system (2,6 GHz, not OC'able), I would need to pay (at the US site, since we're comparing in USD) i would pay 4538 incl VAT
now, once could probably get some coupons or stuff, to deduct 500 USD, so it would also come to 4000 USD :)

all pretty close as far as i'm concerned :)

Could you list out your build please?

The following are the specifications I'm interesting im:

From xoticPC on the SAGER NP5790:

    -2.4Ghz T7700
    -4GB RAM
    -512MB 7950GTX
    -160GB 7200RPM HDD
    -WUXGA

    Original Total:2713.08 USD
    +Hypothetical UK tax = 3187.87USD
    Original Total + Max 3 yr Warranty (293 USD) = 3006.08 USD
Original Total + Max 3 yr Warranty + UK tax = 3532.144 USD

From Rock direct with Xtreme 770

    -2.4Ghz T7700
    -4GB RAM
    -512MB 7950GTX
    -160GB 7200RPM HDD
    -WUXGA

    Total including VAT: 3955.66 USD

    For similar/identical specification notebook:

    - With base warranty, Rock Direct is more expensive than xoticpc by 767.79 USD if we add that Hypothetical UK tax and 1242.58 USD difference if we do not add the UK tax.

-Including the top warranty on both: Rock Direct is still more expensive than xoticpc by 433.52 Inc Hypothetical UK tax and 949.58 more expensive if we do not add the UK tax.

I feel like I'm missing something but as long as the configurators are correct, Rock Direct is more expensive than xtopic.

Note: I'm calling it "hypothetical UK tax" because I'm not sure exactly how much
"All International Customers (including Canada) will have to pay Duties upon receipt of their package."
duties I will have to pay. If the duty/shipping adds up to over 800USD then it won't be worth it. I don't directly recollect ever paying for international duties upon receipt of a package.

Any one have any ideas how much they usually cost?

Dell UK and Rockdirect, upon second look they seem to be pretty similar in price.

Dell US is a little more expensive for the 1710.

I can't get the coupons you've mentioned. I don't think UK dell issues out similar coupons that US members have discussed in these forums.

i took the USsite, since we're comparing USprices
maybe US got a higher price cause there are coupons :p
end result is the same: price is similar :)

as for my config @ Rock (like i built it at Sager, Xotic and Dell)
    T7700
    4GB RAM
    7950GTX
    multimedia BT remote
    TVtuner
    FDD
    160GB HD (7200 rpm)
Fingerprint reader + bluetooth + some free software/bloatware included
    DVD+-RW
    1900x1200 screen
    Vista Ultimate
    0 dead Pixel warranty
3 year warranty (no theft/accidental damage, since i live in Belgium)
    extra battery
    extra power lead
    Belgian keyboard

    I think that's about it
if you think if forgot something, feel free to ask :)
but if i configure the same system at Xotic, and add the VAT (it's 17% I believe), I get roughly the same price :)

Well that's why yours costs so much. :D

Also, you've added stuff on the xoticpc configurator that you can't get on rock direct.

Extra battery, extra power lead = 200USD

The dead pixel policy on rock's is 30 days, I'm guessing xoticpc's isn't just 30 days hence why it costs 150USD more.

That's 350 USD extra already because it wasn't even avalable for the 770

    OH, I did miss out:

the OS in my previous post for the Sager. There should be a 97USD increase - but still cheaper on those specs :p

    As for insurance, RockDirect says:

Please note: Insurance is only available to UK customers.

How'd you get that? I thought you're in Belgium?

I asked Rock to add the spare battery and power lead ... though you are right it's not available on the site
can't tell for the 0 dead pixel policy, but i just selected it just like for the rock :)

    I also stated i didn't took the insurance @rock
but their 3year warranty does apply (it's standard): I'll just have to send it back to Rock at my expense :)
so, my price still stands (maybe apart from the 0dead pixel) ... and it still compares pretty well to Xotic imo :)

The consensus around here is that you don't need 0 dead pixel policy purchase and that it's a waste of money. I've not heard of a dead pixel complaint on NBR. Has anyone? At least I haven't heard of anyone who bought from Xotic or Powernotebooks ever complained about dead pixels.

    maybe you don't need it
but maybe you do, and then you'll curse cause you didn't get it

my view: it's 35£ (i think it was) ... on the total price, that's peanuts :)
also, what i've heard, is that the guarantee makes the resellers check for dead pixels and replace the screen before it gets send :)

Hello everyone and I wanted to say thanks for the wealth of information and support available from this forum it has been a great asset for me. Hope to be a great contribution to this community as well.

Well I've been researching for a laptop and finally came to a conclusion and placed an order from Xotic PC on the Sager NP5790 now time to play the waiting game. By any chance anyone know when in September the White Frame Trim, WSXGA Matte Screen is supposed to arrive. Since I ordered my laptop with them and school is about to start soon trying to get an idea of when it will come. If it makes any difference, I'm in the east coast and went with the 3 Days on UPS shipping. Thank you

    Sincerely,
    Chaotix

Maybe you're right after all. I've chosen " International USPS Global Express Mail EMS (3 -5 days)" and 10 business days have passed since mine was shipped (on 17/8) and I still have no news about the status of my order... :( They told me I can NOT track where my order is... I hope it will be delivered to my house no later than end of next week...

Yeah, I was told 5-15 working days last Friday (about 8 days ago) and no change in order status. It would be good if the status changed on the website when the product was shipped eh.

Also, I received no email (except when I've asked explicitly) about delivery dates and times. And even then I was told "It's on it's way :)" when I asked for a date it left the workshop and a tracking number. It's nice to know it's on the way but it's even nicer to know the answers to the questions I asked.

Apologies for the short rant. I'm a little frustrated with the time it's taken and the random nature of the communication I've received from the most recommended clevo/sager reseller I could find.

When it comes down to it I'm sure the short nature of the emails and the extended delivery time can be explained by the large quantity of orders being processed and the unexpected delays on the GPU's. The business must be quite busy right now and they're simply focusing on the important stuff like building my laptop! :)

    Yay!

    Go for it xotic...

No. But yesterday I got a letter from Australian Post telling me that the Australian Customs located in Melbourne have my package and I need to complete a few forms and pay 5% GST before they start delivering it to me. And just now I completed and faxed all those forms back to them. Hopefully it won't take too long now.

True... I guess I have no choice but to buy internationally because the prices from resellers in Australia is so crazily high that even buying from international resellers is cheaper than buying it locally...

I had to buy one of the expensive resold ones in Aus (metabox m57ru) because I'm salary sacrificing it and you can't do that from overseas businesses. Still waiting for it to turn up due to a bad batch of 7950 GTXs....

You're right that the local manufacturers are way over priced. I was hoping customs didn't add their little tax to the total though. I guess it all depends how much is 5%. Was it 5% of the total cost? or 5% of the postage cost?

hmmm, thats about another $200 bucks Australian... Crikey this thing's costing me an arm and a leg! But it's going to be worth it!

Let me know what the customs guys charge you when you get it sorted.

    Cheers

Do we have to pay customs in the US? I can't remember ever paying a thing for international packages, but people from other countries are always talking about it.

I dont think you have to pay customs from US to US.... so you'd be safe (so long as you're in US ;) )

Congrats on your delivery for Monday! I'm so keen to get my laptop I might wet myself when it finally gets here!

I'm waiting keenly for the "customs papers" to get here so I can get it done ASAP. Booked passport for just in case I have to go get it myself ;) haha!

Actually, I was wondering about when we recieve packages from other countries in a general sense... I've gotten packages from Azerbaijan, England, Canada, China, Taiwan, etc. etc. etc. and nobody has ever told me to pay customs.
