Good specs, nice price. I would try to up that RAM though, Vista is a resource hog at the moment. I say at the moment because SP1 is rumored to optimize Vista for better usage of resources...hopefully...

Very nice price... you can perfect work and play with 1 gb of ram, for now... but probably in the near future you will need at least one more giga :d

For xoticpc, how many phases are there? whats the progression?

ie: I made an order last night, and its on Phase 3 (sent to production.) I'm hoping they'll ship it in a day or two though :)

I ordered a Sager 5790 (M570RU) with the orange trim, 1900x1200 display and M8700 card (ie: all the not-backordered parts .. I can't deal with waiting, and figure I can always order a M7950 GPU later if I need to :p) -- ordered Wednesday night I think.

I picked UPS Express shipping, to Canada .. when it crosses the border, I'll almost certainly get beaten for another couple hundred by the UPS broker (*sigh*) but we'll see..

I'm rather hoping it gets shipped out middle of next week.. but any idea? :) I can't wait either.. biggest online purchase I've made, for sure, and I'm excited to finalyl see Oblivion running at more than 5fps like my old notebook :p

    jeff

Edits: (Other bits .. the 2.4GHz duo, 2GB and XP SP2 (can go Vista later when needed) and the 250GB 5200RPM drive; can always upgrade the drive later cheap, and figure space is more prime than speed .. give me runtime speed and to hell with load speed :p)

The Clevo manual doesn't talk about swapping the GPU, but hopefully its not too difficult..

with the express shipping it doesnt rele cross the border...if its on a plane it goes OVER the border, i know of atleast two people that have gottton missed for the tax, so that means possibly NO TAX... also there are no brokerage fees for canada for laptops so you would have to worry about that

I pre-ordered my laptop a month ahead, once they got the parts, it jumped from like phase 2/3 to 5 in about a week (But I'm guessing that was when they were really busy?) - I didn't order an OS or anything though.

(Note: I had it shipped from where Xotic was located (I think east coast?) to the west coast in the Sacramento area (some cow town - Elk Grove)), took about 2-3 days with the UPS 3 day I think.

I have not noticed any change in the status of my order at all since it went to (order confirmation). I think it would have set my mind at ease to a large degree if there was some kind of change. I would have known that my order had been confirmed at least confirmed. I have since been able to communicate through short and non-specific emails about the status of my order and it is now "on the way".

I wonder if this is the case with all internationally shipped orders... or maybe I am an isolated case.

Is everyone else able to track their order through the online system?

Mine on the website says Phase 5 (Order Shipped). It was not changed until I phoned them and asked them if mine is being shipped out 3 weeks ago. I reckon they're too busy to update the status on their website.

Brokerage does not equal duties.... there are no duties on laptops from the US. Brokerage is a fee you pay to a broker to fill out paperwork and vouch for the contents of your parcel. Sometimes this fee is covered in your shipping fee (by fedex or UPS). Other times you actually have to pay a 3rd party... Other times your package "slips" through. But you are right: the best odds of "slipping" through are international priority --- on a plane.

Technically you still need to pay GST and even PST if you are an end user. This can be collected as a COD fee, or fedex/ups can hold your parcel till ytou pay the fee.... it all depends.

    For what its worth..

Ordered my Sager NP5790 (Clevo m570ru IIRC) last Wed night on the XoticPC website; I checked the site daily (natchj) and no updates until Tuesday, when I'd found out it was already shipped (woot), and it arrived that day (UPS overnight shipping from US to Canada) .. I was able to pick it up Tuesday night. ie: Thurs/Fri/Mon/Tues -- 4 business days turnaround, via XoticPC and Sager.

    Wow!

I avoided back-ordered options .. so have the 1900x1200 screen (darn shucks, had to get the high res one .. its gorgeous, but I worry it might slow down gaming due to such high res in native sizing), the orange trim (I wanted it anyway), and the 8700M instead of 7950M GPU. I sort of wanted that one anyway, and can always pick up a 7950 down the road...

Well done to XoticPC and Sager!

I coudl post my impressiosn or review later if folks want, but the quick summary is ..

Stunning; sure, you can surf on it, but its also very solidly built (I'm a Thinkpad former owner, so I know what I'm talking about), and so far seems to steam through what I'm throwing at it. (Oblivion at 1900x1200, Sup Commander at 1900x1200 .. pretty impressive!)

Mostly I just wanted to post that if you order the non-backordered components, things move quick. Hopefully for you folks waiting on the 7950 and so forth.. once things get in stock, you'll be moving! (or maybe theres a huuuuge backlog of orders :/

    jeff

Notes for Canadians -- they didn't charge Duty, but UPS did nicely hand it over to customs and cost me an extra few hundred GST and PST. 15% tax for-the-lose.

Yay!!! Mine arrived this morning! :D So far so good. Nothing seems to be damaged and everything's working as intended. I installed the 163.77 drivers and played the Quake Wars demo and Medal of Honor: Airborne on it. The 7950GTX can run the Quake Wars demo max out without AA at 1680x1050 with an average of 30fps! ;) For MOHA it can run on max settings at 1280x800 with around 30-60fps. Very satisfying... Loving it! :D

Got a few pics for you guys! ;)

Try Bioshock demo.... see if it runs well with those drivers.

I had to change drivers a couple of times to find the best one for that game... and to prepare on the next Unreal Engine 3 games. ;)

    ... Unreal Tournament 3.... drool.

Alright, just tested CnC3 and Bioshock. For CnC3 I can run it at 1680x1050 with most settings on high and ultra high and get 30fps most of the time. The only time that it dropped to 24fps is in an eight-player map. For Bioshock I run the game at 1280x800 with everything maxed and get around 30-55fps, which is good imo. ;)

I paid $3171.18 AUS total for my notebook + overseas postage. The customs charged me $365.96 AUS total.

On the paper that I found on the Sager box it says:
    Documentary Import Dec N10 Air/Postal Charge - $48.85 AUS
GST ("On Importations") - $317.11 AUS

yeah, so looks like 10% to me. how long after you got the papers from customs did you actually get the laptop delivered?

What date did you order again?

trying to remember how much my unit actually cost in total... I think it was about the same as yours plus the ups delivery charges.

I'll look it up and get back with the exact figures

    thanks for the feedback guys

I ordered mine on 25/7, Xotic PC received my payment on 1/8. They shipped it out on 17/8. And I got the papers from Customs on 3/9 and faxed the completed forms back to them on 4/9. Then they started delivering it from Melbourne to Adelaide on 11/9 and I received it yesterday, which is 13/9.

Just tested Company of Heroes (the original game and the new expansion Opposing Fronts beta) and World in Conflict demo on it, all running at 1440x900 with most high settings smoothly (around 30-60fps). ;)

I ordered my unit on the 30/7, xotic received my payment on the 3/8. they shipped it on 30/8. (I wonder why it took so much longer than yours?)

    No word from customs yet.

I have figured the customs fees will be exactly the same as yours. (I did the currency conversion again today and got a total AU price of 3163.00 plus postage)

I wonder did we get the exact same rig or something? lol

I just bought a zalman cooler too... it got here in 3 days! on the day it arrived, I got an email from the company saying "hey, we just posted your item!" and I got home and it was on the door step... now thats fast!

ok customs... I'm ready, you can send me my laptop now :\

Using a notebook cooler is a good idea to avoid the fans from getting too loud. ;) If you live in Melbourne then you'll probably get it the day they start delivering it to you...

did you get the fingerprint reader too?

I think I already asked you this too... but does xp pro 32 bit recognise the fill 3 gigs of ram you've got?

no delays for the 8700 as far as I know. Different supplier than xotic (that's who I ordered from). I think there's plenty.

I got some good news today when I got home. I have a post slip with an item to pick up :) STOKED! It's prob just paperwork from customs though so I'm not being too excited. if it's actual delivery of my laptop, then it means I've escaped customs fees! that would be AWESOME! farkin oath! :D

(pardon my french but I'm fairly damed excited about it lol)

great 3dmark results maksin01! I'm lucky to clock 3500 with my current pc... this thing is an ANIMAL! haha

cross your fingers I get mine tomorrow!
