I was planning on reviewing it only for giving the community a review. I mean, people have had the computer for like two weeks, and no reviews have come up. It made me sad.![]()
The main thing I'm wondering about the M5790 is how cool it is going to be. A 7950GTX puts a lot of heat, but then again Clevo is a respected brand and ought to have a nice cooling system. I really don't feel like spending extar for a cooling pad.
And is there any word of a docking station?
-
I'd do a review too, but I imagine one of you will beat me to it, as I'm spending 8 hours a day teaching kids to make video games...
I might still have something to add this weekend. We'll see.
-
I know you can take the latest desktop drivers and mod them to work on mobile cards, but I've heard of people having problems with that (particularly with some of the latest drivers). -
Many modified desktop-drivers are often poorly done. I only trust NGO at this point. Both Omega Drivers and DriverHeaven.net have given me problems. As a developer, trying to debug something only to find the graphics card drivers are at fault is very frustrating. NGO hasn't let me down yet. On top of the improved stability and correctness, performance is generally a bit better.
-
Mine's at home right NOW! But, I'm at work.....
-
Mine's in California right now. And I'm one state up. And I'm at work. That's triple-ouch for me.
-
Mine's getting delivered today but there will be no one home to sign for it.
-
I don't think you need to be afraid of nobody being there to sign it. I'd be more afraid of them just leaving it at my doorstep. Wouldn't want anyone to steal it. I requested that RJTech make my package a signature-required one (I mighta already said that, but I can't remember).

I'm typing this on my shiny new Sager NP5790.
Just now finally got Vista setup (I used my own copy) and all the drivers installed. Man this thing is awesome. Full review coming soon (probably tomorrow). -

joga thanks! I am very excited and I will be patiently anticipating your review.
-
So I decided to go with the Sager NP5790 and ordered one a couple days ago. I am very excited - it should arrive early next week (can hardly stand the wait).
Can anyone give me some idea of what kind of performance I can expect? I'm coming from a Dell Latitude D820 T7400 2.16GHz w/ 4 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, and NVidia Quadro NVS 120M and 15.4" display running at 1920 x 1200. How much better will the 5790 be?
I ordered the WUXGA Glossy screen, the T7500 2.2GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, and a 200GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDD.
Thanks! -

joga, I love you, in a non-gay way. I will also use a G5 when I get my NP5790. Tell me, does it look better in real life? T_T.
-
Yes, it actually does look better in real life. The lid is so smooth and shiny, and the orange stripe is a very lovely light coppery color (not a gaudy neon orange like I thought at first). And the screen is so pretty! I'm very glad I got the glossy screen, although I still think WUXGA is a tad too small, but it'll be fine. -
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
did you just use the drivers that was provided with you?
-
Joga: When I saw those picture, I literally put my fist in my mouth and screamed. I am so excited. I love you too
Oh, and the little "Sager" thing in that little rectangle seems to light up. I ordered a barebones, so I won't have any model name. Will I just have a blue bar in the corner of my notebook? Because that would be awesome. -
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
what rectangle?
-
Uhh, in the first picture. Lower right hand side of the notebook, as you look at it in the photo. It glows with a blue light behind. Or maybe it's just painted blue?
-
Yeah, I just installed all the default drivers from the CD. I can't quite figure out what video card driver version I have though. In the Device Manager it just says version "7.15.11.134" and the driver date is 5/22/07. Beats me. The Nvidia driver naming scheme confuses the heck out of me. On laptopvideo2go they have 160-series drivers that are older than 98-series drivers. WTF?
That's one thing I miss about ATI on my old desktop - they released a new driver every month without fail, and it was named after the month and the year, so the August 2007 drivers would be 7.8, the December 2005 drivers would be 5.12, etc. It just made sense.
Two other little oddities: I can't figure out how to toggle the fans to maximum. It's not any of the F-keys (like on the old Clevos) since they're all taken by other funcions, and it's not Fn+1 (or Fn+ any other number) like on the D900C. Is this not an option on the M570RU?
Also, there is no specific driver for the screen, so there's only a mediocre selection of resolutions. 1920x1200 is the only widescreen resolution available (on the desktop or in games). No 1680x1050, no 1440x900, no nothing. I'm going to see if I can force some lower widescreen resolutions with PowerStrip or something.
Edit: The blue on the Sager logo is just a reflection. The sticker is actually a sparkly silver-ish, and it changes colors as you look at it from different angles. If you ordered it barebones without any logo sticker I think it's just black like the rest of the lid. -
Can't you download that SpeedFan program?
And I'm assuming that the thing with resolutions is a problem of the OS (in this case, Vista) and if I'll be using XP I'll be able to choose other resolutions for my games...? -
dude, i just wet my pants too. That is the sickest 17 ive seen. EVER.
the wuxga as i thought is a little small, but im sure you can download a forceware for the dpi or just use the display properties with the right click???
Anyways, congrats, and I would wet my pants again if you gave a review of this beast. Thanks for the pics. -
I wanna give a review
It would make me feel important
And yeah, you can change DPI just by right clicking and then doing some other things. At least you can in XP. Not sure about Windaws Vistos. -
yea, you can change DPI from 96 to 120 in vista too
-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Going CrAzY!!!!!!2 more weeks for mine....grrrrrrrrrrrrr..grats to all who got it...
-
Wow, just got my tracking number...I ordered on Monday (7/23) and it will be here tomorrow! I did not expect so fast a turnaround. I ordered from PowerNotebooks and they really expedited this (kudos to Ron and Kenny for that).
BTW, can anyone recommend a game to buy? I don't have any yet and if you could only buy one game, what would it be? I want something that takes full advantage of what the NP5790 has to offer.
Thanks! -
I LOVE MINE! But, my damn cable modem died, so I still can't game online....
-
I ordered through PCTorque, and have been waiting quite a while (not as long as some of you preorder-ers, tho
) but they told me to call Sager. Sager told me that the first batch of NP5790s had been shipped out and if you haven't received your tracking number yet, you probably have to wait for the second batch to arrive, which won't happen until late next week at the earliest.
I don't know how many people are affected by this, I just thought I'd share what I was told.
And I wanted mine so badly too..... -
-
-
Mine comes next tuesday! Gonna take off work so I don't miss the delivery
-
Thanks.
So, everybody here has VIA firewire chipset.
But supposedly there are these same Clevo's with Texas instruments chipsets. -
Holy cow, this thing is so gorgeous. Pictures simply do not do it justice, its absolutely fantastic.
It's not even as heavy as the 15" Dell I'd been using before.
No dead pixels that I can see, and I don't know (or want to) what light leakage is.
Only thing that slightly worries me is that I got a 3 year warranty and in my package was information about the limited 1 year warranty. I hope that's just what's included in everybody and not an indication that I have to hassle XoticPC again -
-
I ordered mine on Sunday or Monday night, can't remember (my memory's already failing me
) It's expected to ship either tomorrow or Monday, and arrive Wednesday or Thursday. Not too bad. Only have to wait a week
-

justin said mine would ship 24-48 hours 2 days ago...no email yet...if it ships on friday...say I have 3 day shipping...will saturday and sunday count as 2 days? or will it have to continue on monday and tuesday...T_T.
-
Usually shipping goes by business days so I wouldn't count Saturday or Sunday, unless you have express shipping.
-
Youkonbob...what details...describe!!!! (WoW)..
-
hey joga when you are in quiet room does the fan bother you at all. Or if you are in a library you think it is noticeable people who sits next to you can hear it?
-
-
Yeah I would like to know also... whats wrong with the 64 bit for games?
-
The UPS guy just delivered mine! I am definitely impressed with the build quality. Now I need help, please!! I can't decide if I should load Vista 64 or 32? Also, did you guys partition your drives? I got the 200GB SATA2 drive@ 7200 RPM.
What do you all plan to do??
Thx! -
Agent CoolBlue Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I plan to install 32 bit Vista home premium and just keep my hard drive as is...I don't really have a reason to partition mine...
-
32-bit Windows XP SP2 and 64-bit Ubuntu (if I can get the 4965AGN working in it, that is... otherwise, 32-bit it is... -_-)
-
Cool, thanks. Out of curiosity, do any of the latest games work in x64?
-
Some have special builds for x64 to take advantage of any performance increases associated with the architecture. I believe Unreal Tournament is one of them.
-
what is the difference going to be in gaming between vista 32 and 64?
is 3 gigs of ram enough to run 64? -
Aye, 3GB of RAM ought to be enough. I think even 2GB would be enough memory for a 64 OS, that is, if a 64 OS even has any other requirements. Which I'm not sure of, but I don't believe it really matters (maybe very little) which type of OS you have.
-
OK how do I disable this retarded hibernate fn hotkey next to the fn mute button? The fact that the difference between muting the notebook and completely exiting out of whatever I was doing is one key apart fills me with rage that I can't properly communicate on an internet forum.
-
Fortunately, there's a solution! Assuming you have Vista (and I'm sure there's a similar option in XP), go the Control Panel, then "Mobile PC", click "Change what the power buttons do" under the Power Options heading. Then next to "When I Press the Sleep Button:", change the pull-down menus to say "Do Nothing."
Ta-dah, the no more sleeping on accident. -
You guys know what's the BEST thing about this laptop?!?! THE CTRL KEY!!! It's in the right spot..all the way in the corner where it supposed to be!!!!!! My friends laptop had a windows button instead of the CTRL and friggin when I'd play WoW I'd constantly hit it in the middle of the fight and quit...RRRRR thank god Sager fixed that BTW that's why I didn't want to buy NP2090...
NP5790- Can't wait!
