Installed the B173QTN01.4 panel on my P870DM-G.

    Stock clevo bios
Stock MSI gtx 1060 vbios non g-sync

Ran against the same EDID issues as everyone else, screen lighting up only without Nvidia drivers installed, or safe mode. Tested Linux, Linux is working fine without any issues.

Workaround: Made an edid override INF file with moninfo. After first Nvidia driver install, switched laptop screen to use that moninfo made driver. Disabled internal monitor after that. Found out when i had an external monitor attached via hdmi during driver install, in "duplicate screen" mode. The screen lit up after driver install. After that i got a picture, switched to extended screen mode, changed resolution to 2560*1440 120hz. Took hdmi off, still got an image!

So using duplicate screen mode with external monitor via hdmi during driver install causes the internal screen to light up.

Found out also that i have to keep Windows Test Mode on and keep the internal laptop display disabled in device manager. If monitor is not disabled, it will stay black in the next reboot. Same without test mode.

After that its fully working except brightness control. Can shut down the laptop, reboot or what ever, its working as normal. Can dim the display using nvidia control panel.

So if you already purchased this display, its possible to use it like this. Hardly an ideal situation, maybe there will be some kind of fix later. Full 2560*1440 120hz working great, really good quality panel :)

Edit: Seems to be working without test mode also.

    Hi,
Let me ask your kind guidance, as I am fully confused after weeks of reading :) I would like to have a CLEVO laptop with desktop capable cpus (775dm3 or 870dm3). The biggest issue for me is the screen, which has to be 120hz. I do not mind the gsync, it is not crucial for me. Many laptops I see (eg on ebay), they all have gsync FHD screen, I do not really find 120hz. Can I manually change eg the 775dm3-g screen to FHD 120hz? If I chech on the net / or ebay, I find FHD 120hz easilly, however I am not sure about the connectors. If you can tell me descriptions, links where I can read, I would also welcome. Of course the easiest would be to buy a machine with 120hz, but I cannot really find, and I cannot afford a full new. Thats why I was thinking to buy a used, and order a 120hz display. I have some doubts that is easly like that...
Thank you for your help in advance,
    cheers

    hi screen experts

i plan on buying an acer aspire 5 a515-51g.., which comes with a 15.6 tn panel non touch... a said screen replacement to work with it is said to be: B156HAN01.2 , which comes with 30pin connector.

i would add touch capability -- i like the specifications of B156HAK02.0 which is 40pin -- touch, ips, 1080p .

    questions:
    1) what connection is responsible for touch? 40pin connector? or is there an additional connector for touch capability?
    2) will i need to purchase a new cable? if so, what would it be?

I have been using the B173QTN01.4 for 2 weeks now, no issues at all. (screen disabled in device manager, laptop sleep mode and screen saver disabled). No problems rebooting or "cold booting". Really a good compromise between 1080p and 4k. Ghost recon: Wildlands is running at 2560*1440 resolution with high settings around 52fps. Dipping into 45 a few times, some scenes are over 60.

Running a MSI 1060 mxm card.

Hi guys I have the clevo p377sm-a and I'm thinking to pull the trigger for a gtx1070.
But I have to change the screen + edp cable.
I'm wondering the new screens 120hz and 5ms are compatible with my system or not?
Or I have to stick with the original 3d screen 120hz?
    thanks in advance

Your only option is the original 120hz eDP 50 pin panel, clevo used a 50 pin connector on the panels, and the only display cable available is the 50 pin version. New high end 120hz panels use the 40pin cable.

Had the original 120hz panel on my p370sm-a, still a good panel, much better than the original 60hz one.

It will have been down to the panels and connectors available at the time rather than a specific choice on connector/cable.

I don't think there is any info out around it just yet. Asus do have a lot of relationships with the higher end of the panel market.

Will any of these monitors fit/work in the P670RG? My current monitor has some issues with it and if these 120hz work it would be a nice upgrade.

    Hi,
Can you help me calibrate the profile with lower brightness? Since I couldn't change my brightness after replacing my laptop screen to B156HTN05.2..
I'm using your color profile at the moment, I'm loving the vibrant colors but honestly my eyes is tearing up after a while.

You should be able to go to the Nvidia Control or Intel Control Panel and change them there.

Nvm, all peachy after uninstalling Asus Splendid display! Thank you.

    *edit*
I noticed the color profile isn't loaded at windows startup, it only loads after the windows logon.
Is this normal? Or am I missing something?
I tried adding a task in windows task scheduler/windows color calibration to load at start up but to no avail.

Just want to share this super simple & neat app to set screen brightness if you couldn't after replacing your laptop screen, PangoBright.
(Since changing brightness through Nvidia control panel would terminate my windows color profile).

assuming that output works(and has same EDP pins count), brightness control isn't guaranteed, nor from bios/or vbios related, neither on video driver.
But its only 100eur check, if does not work you can return it..

Does anyone know any lighter laptops that have the 120hz with Gsync panel N173HHE-G32 (CMN1747)? The lightet one I'm seeing is the GT73VR

Nothing particularly light carrying it so far, I think that might be the lightest of them unless the Asus one is a bit lighter.

Just a quick update to say the N173HHE-G32 P&P CMN1747 Rev C1 "40 Pin" version, works with Alienware 17 R1 2013/2014 Haswell model. Just the mounting frame does not work.

Typing from it already. The 120Hz works and the colors and contrast are awesome, maybe the vertical viewing angles are not the best. Great panel for sure.

No for g-sync unfortunately, need bios + gpu + display all to be configured together for g-sync.

Installed this B173QTN01.4 in my new P775TM1, works 100% without any mods or issues.

B173QTN01.4 works in TM models (minus g-sync), but boot to black screen on DMx models.
Had to make a special BIOS for @bloodhawk 's P870DM3 to support it.

I have B173QTN01.2 installed and I get a signal but waiting for the panel to be modded into my P870DM-G BIOS so I don't get black screens if i clear the CMOS.

    Hopefully it happens soon.

There are at least three different versions of the new screens and each one would need it's own bios and black screen to the other revisions. Also the stock screen will no longer work, so can't make it part of the regular Partner Mod.

how would a stock screen no longer work? are you overriding the EDID or adding a new entry into the BIOS?

The DM system BIOS can not communicate with the new screens. The changes I have to make in order for it to do that will cause it to no longer understand the the older/other revisions.

OK, so essentially it's an override. So until I get an updated BIOS i can't do any BIOS changes that would require a CMOS reset as right now I am able to get a signal.

It's probably why it wouldn't boot back properly when I had the 1440p panel installed the first time.

Sorry, I don't mean to be a nag about the screen :p

I just installed the 1.4 QHD screen and it looks amazing, and I haven't even calibrated it yet. Really wish the 1.0 had looked like this all along. After having the other 3 options (120hz FHD, 120Hz QHD, 60hz UHD ) this one is my favorite. Hopefully there's a fix or something that works. Someone posted in another thread about a workaround that at least lets you reboot without swapping the screen out, so I will try that. Until then, fortunately I dont reboot that often.

I haven't tried restarting yet. I swapped it out by putting the computer to sleep. The swap out itself, at least on the DM3 is pretty simple and takes 15 minutes. This weekend I will try the workaround described here and let you know how it goes:

Not on a Clevo, but would putting a B173QTN01.4 on a MSI with a 980m make sense(OC'ed stable around 1350Mhz core and +300Mhz VRAM)?

I'm planning on upgrading to a 1070 on a latter date, but I have only been playing CS:GO and LoL, with a very occasional BF1 and other older titles.

I imagine CS:GO at 1280x720p at 120Hz would be pretty dope.

Also, anyone knows a reputable seller on EU, or only China imports?

    Best regards.

The panel is the LG Philips LP173WF4-SPF1, stable OC up to 70Hz, at 71Hz small text starts being fuzzy, at 72Hz the whole screen is shaking/wobbling, my external monitor is an Asus VX239H an it only goes up to 73Hz stable, above that, the same, fuzzy-ness, so I have both set to 70Hz.

    EDIT: Incorrect display model.

@Saltsi 's explanation worked perfectly! I came back to my computer, and it had a dark screen after rebooting itself. I hooked it up to an external monitor using duplicate, did the EDID override, disabled the internal monitor, reinstalled (cleanly) the nvidia drivers and rebooted. Lo and behold the screen came on and has stayed on even after rebooting multiple times and removing the external monitor. Running at full 1440p and 120hz, no issues.

do you think you can do an update on p775dm3g to support the b173qtn01.4? I'm sure the owners would pay to finally find a bios solution including me

Why would the 1.4 version not have gsync on the P775TM1-G while it does for alienwares? Is it because it's not flagged and a supported? Isn't it technically the same?
