Same here my friend! I had that processor in my laptop that I used for the past month and it was perfectly capable of everything I do. I tested BF3 on High settings 900p, Skyrim on 1080p high, both stayed above 30 FPS at all times even during intense action [grenades and tanks and a dozen people running around in my face, fighting off 2 dragons simultaneously etc.] It also worked great for Photoshop and multi tasking.

I just couldn't stand having less than 2 hours of battery life with the GTX 560m and no optimus :/

I hope IVB comes out within a month but if not I will just get a 660m or 670m and the i7 2670.

Just so you know, 560m costs about $225, 670m costs about $200, and 675m costs about $255-300. 675m is twice as powerful as 560m. No idea how much 660m will cost, probably ~$100-150 :)

I'm definitely going for a 660m and 3720qm, the 670m will be priced higher and probably consume much more power/ heat. 660m should be perfect for 900p gaming, and hopefully with later drivers the performance will increase a bit :D.

if the 670m is really only $200 then that is amazing; we'll have to wait and see ha.

Whaaaaaaaat? How is that possible? That's basically a 580M being only about $30-75 more than a 560M, and a OC'd 570M being cheaper than a 560M. Where are you getting these numbers? lol

Wait, do you mean 2760QM, or 3720QM? Because unless you manage to get a really good deal on a 2720QM, it's a ripoff compared to today's lineup.

Why wait? Resellers are already offering it on their P270WM config pages.
    Mythlogic's P270WM
If you do the math, 670m is $198 and 675m is $297. I don't have numbers for 660m :( but given current pricing it will probably be around $100-150.

The base configuration for the NP8130 (P151HM) was $989 with the GT 560M while the NP8131 (P151EM) is priced at $1,099 right now at Xotic PC prior to discount. If the 660M will be cheaper than the 560M, does that mean the price might be lower than what it is now if the I order a model with a 660M come around April 5th?

Are people leaning more towards releases shortly after the lift of the NDA like April 5-15 or do more people think these will be out late April maybe first week or two of May?

I really hope for an early April release but if I have to I will wait.

The Optimus and Kepler combination should give at least double or triple battery life right? My GTX 560m p151hm could only get about 2-3 hours TOPS with no brightness or wifi. I"m hoping for 5-7 hours of battery life if I am running the intel 4000 [ or 3000 whichever] .

Depending on how Intel decides to do it, it's possible you'll be able to order during the first week of April, but product likely won't ship until the end of April/first week of May, when Ivy is officially slated to launch.

Of course, they could just change their mind, again.

Probably double, although triple isn't completely out of the question, as Ivy is more power efficient as well. Definitely think it'll be about 6 hours max on integrated.

Yeah I was hoping for about 6 on the iGPU. it would be the perfect amount for 2 classes with no outlet ha. I would even go for the SB CPU IVB isn't that awesome from what i've seen.

You might find a few that will, however the 6990M is EOL (end of life).

If any dealer does have them...they are just left over stock. Sorry.

P151HM was marked down due to sales. Price should drop on April 5, when the NDA lifts. If ivy is cheaper than sandy (I've only heard rumors, no confirmation), it might be a significant drop.

EDIT: before black friday, P151HM cost $1099 for base too.

Won't the Optimus / 660 or 670m save much more battery than the IVB processor? I'm hearing that the IVB will take about the same power as the SB when in Idle/low use and only really show its power savings when doing intense tasks. I don't really need that as I am going to only do school work/notes when I'm running off the CPU only on optimus. So I wouldn't really see the benefits and should probably just go for the SB? Especially considering how much the prices will probably drop due to left over stock and it being now outdated etc.

I'm so glad my return went through on my $1,260 P151hm. Now I can wait a few weeks to a month and get one much better for the same price with double battery life? Pretty sweet I'm way too hyped haha.

Absolutely, but Ivy may well save you some as well. It's hard to say until the NDA is lifted and we get real benchmarks, though.

That's a decent point, but you may not see savings on the order of what you'd hope for, as only the CPU is older tech-they've had to redo the motherboards anyway to set up Optimus support for the GTX lineup, I believe.

I have the opportunity to get a 151hm with a, i7 2670, 6990m, bigfoot 1103, icd7, odd hd caddy, and 2 year warranty for under 1500. Or I can wait for the refresh. Will the 6990m be better than the 675m performance wise?

I believe the upgrade to the 675m will be atleast 200 more since I cant get it with the 151em when it is released.

    151hm doesn't support the 6990m. You must mean 150hm.

That's a pretty good deal. 6990M is equivalent to the 580M which the 675M is a rebrand of.. Similar performance to the 675M.

As long as you don't need the additional battery life that's coming with the refresh, I'd go for it.. 6990M is a beastly card and you can get a decent OC out of it if you wanted/needed. Should be able to max pretty much everything.

the 151hm actually DOES support the highend GPUs, only thing u have to take care of is coupling it with a 180W PSU, since the stock 120W wouldnt be powerful enough. otherwise its no biggie at all, the included heat sink is exactly the same like in the 150hm and is thus capable of cooling the cards :)

    cheers

Translation fail. I dearly hope "dual power" doesn't mean we will have to lug around a converter box and two power supplys...

    There will be none.

675m and 6990m are pretty much identical performance wise, but 675m will be cheaper.

While true, he didn't mention an upgraded power brick.. It's easier to just explain it as the 151 can't handle higher end gpu's to avoid people questioning it over and over again lol. Most people who want to swap power bricks know what they're getting into and wouldn't need an explanation..

I was trying to prevent repetitive questions, but you are correct. I should have phrased it better.

ugh, looks like I might need to return my np8170. it just developed a bad HDD and if this has a 675m, backlit keyboard, optimus and ivy bridge, guess it depends on how much of a jump this is and whether I need to mail in my whole laptop for the RMA.

This whole NDA seems to be aimed straight at keeping all of the new purchasers from RMAing their laptops and preordering the new ones.

Edit: Do we know how much it's going to be to upgrade to the 675m on the np8171 or np8151?

Edit2: or what the base gpu will be?

Right now I believe they were saying the 675m would be a 200 dollar upgrade. Considering the dual 675m setup from mythlogic is $495.00 and that includes the secondary power supply and converter box that mythlogic said runs $195.00. Leaving a $300.00 price tag for the 675m.

675m is even cheaper on other resellers, factoring out the extra power box it's $255. Also, the extra power supply is $145 at Mythlogic, not $195, so only $445 to upgrade. That's the same as Sager, except they want an extra $50 for the power supply and $50 less for the 675m. Consider that while the 675m will be a $200 upgrade (only if 660m is base, if 670m then ~$90), 660m is about $125 cheaper than 560m, so the base price will drop a lot to offset that.

@ contradude: I'm pretty sure the NDA's aren't to spite the consumer lol. Much about the p171em is known already, so if it seems like a worthwhile upgrade to you, return your p170hm. by the time you get your laptop returned, it'll be time to place your order for the new one.

    P151EM with 660m or P150EM with 660m????????!????????

    ... the P151EM is $150 less....XoticPC prices.

Would one have less Gaming/Heat issues, or better quality?

The main question would be whether I'd want to upgrade later and if say I hold out till Maxweel, will the 660m in the P151EM be compatible(does it use MXM 3.0b for 660m)

    thanks

Lenovo is also making some decent lappys WITH 660m and SB. Wonder how they will bench and cost compared to p151em. They are saying 1000 with 6gb ram, 2630, 660m and 500gb hd. I'd say it needs at least 2670 and 8gb ram and a 256gb ssd but that's expensive ha.

It's usually better to just edit and add that they ended up helping. That way users can see that there was a problem and what the problem was, but also shows that the reseller is taking care of you.
