All of the 500 supported optimus, it was up to the board makers to enable it, the problem with optimus is a performance loss, therefore Clevo never enabled it, the 'new' cards have Optimus 1.2, I don't believe anyone knows the performance of that yet.
-
-
The said performance loss was due to added latency from having the GPU render the frame and then copy it to the iGPU so the iGPU could display it instaid of it being sent directly to the screen from the GPU, right? Because I don't really see a workaround for that, unless they make a new mobo so that both GPUs are simultaneously connected to the screen.
EDIT: Hey wait, if 675m is exact duplicate of 580m, then wouldn't it still have the same version of optimus?!? -
-
I hope the performance loss is only a few fps; 5-10 would be too many. If its 5> then thats worth it to me. I hope some kepler laptops come out for around $1,300 with a GTX 660 or 670m... And Soon!!!
-
MSI refused to use Optimus with their GTX 570M notebooks because they saw up to 10% less FPS when using the dedicated GPU. Hopefully Optimus have improved now
Either way, a high end system with a high end GPU, should have some sort of IGP switching, either manually or automatically imo -
Yeah; maybe we can turn off Optimus in BIOS when we want to game and then restart computer and turn it back on when we leave. I wouldn't mind because I'll be home 75% of the time and can just turn off Optimus in the BIOS and then turn it back on before I leave for school/work. That is always possible right? Sort of a hassle but if you have a Hybrid Drive or SSD it won't be that big of a deal maybe 30 seconds to restart and switch it. My Hybrid 750GB would boot up in 15-25 seconds.
-
-
you cant disable optimus in bios and restart ? i thought this was 0
possible -
Optimus is a hardware thing, no amount of hacking can change the physical layout of things on your mobo.
-
oh that is weak sauce. it really needs to be April 5 i hope clevo puts the laptops up for sale in the US right after ha.
-
Maybe Ivy bridge/Kepler can handle battery much better. I mean 660m has the same core as the 640m, and that went into a thin form factor(ultra m3), maybe it will have advanced power saving features as well, same with Ivy Bridge.
-
It'd be nice if Ivy Bridge came out this month along with the Kepler but I am doubting it :/ IF it does that'd be the most amazing thing ever ha.
-
god i cant wait Im definitely getting a 15 inch ivy bridge. gotta figure out what to do with my 8690

Headstart on Deviltech for ivy : Click

Is there any reliable news as to when they are released for the Radeon 7970m / 7990m GPUs?
-
If this info is legit i really hope we might see some the new models with Ivy inside before the end of this month. It's really stupid to launch the new line-up after 14th of april with Sandy bridge CPU's when the Ivy platform comes 1 week later...

The prices are amazing though. DEFINITELY getting a 675m and an IB CPU from Germany if it can be delivered in the first or second week of may. However, I've read shady reviews for both of these places so I hope mySN.de's prices are as good as these -
god it needs to be april 5th already i can't wait

Oh, and both God and April should be capitalizedDon't expect Him to help you if you don't show Him proper respect
Don't forget that Easter is April 8th! -
-
I think it is, and the barebone is the MSI 1762 which is exactly similar to the 1761 also without back-lit keyboard, that's why the price is fairly low.
The 3720qm is much cheaper tho. -
I don't even care for Ivy; supposedly it's not that much better than SB for laptops. I just want a 2670 or 2720 with 8 GB ram and a GTX 660m or 670m with a nice 750 seagate hybrid. I really just want the Optimus and graphics card that runs cooler; which means slight OC
-
Performance per clock cycle is slightly better and power consumption is significant enough, you also get higher clocks, you're chancing getting an old mobo with SB.
-
I think the P150EM has an extra USB 3.0 port.
That should make it easy to tell the motherboards apart. -

The Intel release date has always been April 8th...The only date April 5th refers to is the end of the Sager $50 discount.
-
I'm not sure why everyone else thought april 5th, but when i contacted xoticpc, i received the following email:
-
Now I don't mean to be rude, but I find that is quite a riddle. -
-
anyone waiting for 170EM ?
-
fantomasz in wsi Portugal they are selling the 170EM, they had 25 units of 150EM barebone selling for 1229€, but they sold them all, now you have only full systems for sale with Ivy Bridge and 670M.

I would pre-order a new laptop but I want to see the radeon 7970/90m GPU first. Ivy ofcourse is a nice addition but im more concerned with the graphic performance. How long is Amd going to wait until they released the new gpus?
-
I would like to ear some news regarding AMD GPU before i buy my new laptop
I was tempted to buy the barebone i mentioned before, since it was a I7 3610qm with GTX 675, no memory no hardrive no dvd and no OS, but for 1229€ it wasn't a bad deal
But I reconsidered and I will wait for some news from AMD before i decide to buy
-
noooooo the p150em ONLY comes with IB?
i was hoping for an earlier version with SB and the 600 series :[ nuuuu
I NEED A NEW LAPTOP KSFHASJHFGKAJSDAS -

Yeah, what's with this darn gap between 69xxm series' EOL and 79xxms' launch? What am I supposed to do? Buy nVidia? I don't think so! I wanna mine on the side while I'm out of the house.

The 150em is only withivy bridge? What about 151em? I wonder can we get 670 on the 151em or only 150em ? I want 151 with 670 and sandy bridge if they allow it since sandy bridge will prbly be on sale soon to clear final stocks. I wish time would go faster I need a laptop so badly for games school and work designing things in photoshop sometimes. Hope with Optimus we can get 6 hours battery but 5.5 or 5 hours would be sick too. I want to be able to go through 2 classes on a battery. I should have outlets at school anyways though as I'll be in the new business building at cal poly Pomona, people are saying its pretty high tech . The wait is killing me...!
-
I highly doubt this new Optimus version/technology w/e it is will help the battery all of a sudden, remember that everything else eats up the battery too -
3-4 hours most likely
-
On another note how much battery power with say a 675m and optimus would we probably get? -
-
If I'm reading this review correctly, the MSI 16F3--which is the Ivy/Optimus successor to the 16F2--gets about 3 more hours of battery life. -
P150hm got 3.5h battery with gtx 485m. So i don t see the problem for a least 1h more with optimus and ivy cpu...
-
Yeah I'm expecting/hoping for 5-6 hours with low brightness no wifi.
-
I'm just about to preorder NP8131 myself. Here's to hoping it goes well! Anyone else waiting anxiously for this one?
