It's probably best to ask the reseller you put the pre-order in with directly.

I just spoke with Xotic and they said they are allowing customers to wait until the release of Ivy Bridge to complete their order and retain the preorder discount.

Yet there is a 2 week build time from sager for an order. Pre ordered on the 8th of march... So i guess you will have a two week time on top of the IB release.

Are you sure? I was told Only laptops shipped by April 18th qualify. Any units after that would lose there $50.

That would suck. I'm still stuck in phase 1 for my NP9130. And with a 7-14 day build time currently, that would mean I would lose my $50 savings. I'm not a huge fan of that idea.

I just wish my laptop would go into production. I'm so excited! I was told that the parts were not readily available. I'm also going to have to send in a new configuration, so they say, once the parts are available.

Man, I wish the parts would show up soon. I can't wait!

Has anyone who's buying an NP9130 through Xoticpc gotten through to phase 2?

Nope, Still on phase 1. I was told they would start shipping around the 20th at the earliest. Longer depending how far back in line you were.

Darn. I hope that doesn't mean we lose our savings.

Heck, if it gets close enough to the 29th, I MIGHT just wait until Ivy. I dunno. I'll be pretty happy with a i7-2670qm I think. Might upgrade a year from now or so to a higher end ivy bridge...

Ah well. I'm probably pretty late in line. Here's hoping ours goes into production soon!

The i7 2670 is quite fast; I had one and it worked fantastically I would run BF3, a dozen or so tabs in chrome browser, and Photoshop with a few files open, and my anti virus and a few other small programs; and it would never lag at all.

It's plenty powerful for almost any situation. I just want to wait for Ivy Bridge because of the lower power usage and cooler temperatures.

I'm really more interested in the 660m and 680m though...

Sager has now changed their position. As long as you originally qualified for the $50 deferred shipment discount you can wait for Ivy Bridge without losing your discount.

I'm so sad that I want to wait for 7970 and Ivy Bridge... They will just be so much more bang for your buck I can't justify getting a SB [i7 2670] and GTX 675m, I could do a great build for about $1500. But I'm figuring the 7970 will be at least $50 cheaper than the GTX 675m and probably run cooler/perform the same or better. IB is supposed to cost right about the same amount. I hope these all come out at the end of the month; until then I'm saving a little extra money :p Going to be my lappy for at least 3 years so I want it fast! haha.

How is it exactly that you know that the 7970M is going to be a better bang for your buck? Just curious, this isn't the case with the desktop 680.. ;)

That's got to be a first for nvidia. Good for them, maybe they can keep up this trend for more than one generation.

Yeah; as contradude stated, this is the first time ever that AMD has had a card cost more than its Nvidia counterpart; and thats for Desktops only. They have never made an AMD card cost more than its Nvidia equivalent in the mobile sector. The 6990 was within 5% of the 580m and costed only about half as much.... If the 7970 or 7990 can do the same to the 680m then it will really kick some .

How useful are some of the following options?:

XOTIC PC Professional Monitor Color Calibration w/ Spyder 3 Elite
IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU

Also, is it better (read: cost efficient) to have an SSD for the primary hard drive and a 750gb secondary, or an mSata SSD for the operating system and a 750gb primary hard drive?

The color calibration is helpful if you are in Graphic/Video design. For gaming you really don't need it.

The IC Diamond Thermal Compound is worth the money though; it can drop your temps from normal thermal compound by about an extra 3-4 degrees celsius. Totally worth $35 they charge. They put it on the CPU and GPU; I would advise everyone to get it if you are going to be gaming/designing on your laptop.

An msata SSD is probably more cost efficient but they perform at about half the speed of normal Sata III SSD's.

A 60,90, or 120GB SSD w/ a 500 or 750GB 7200rpm hard drive is the best set up though for the money. I'd spend a bit more and get at least the 90GB though; 60 is a bit small, you could fit Windows 7 64 bit on a bout 20GB of space, then you have about 30GB more to play w/ which isn't enough room IMO [about 10GB will probably go to TRIM support/formatting etc].

If you are in graphic/video design, best to buy your own calibration equipment. Can find decent ones like the Spyder for $100-$150 depending on features. It's something that should be done every so often anyhow if you care about proper color.

IC Diamond is a good paste. But I'd say do it yourself. I had them do it on my last Sager and it still wasn't done right. I redid it myself and temps dropped considerably.

In the chart it doesn't say 7970M vs 680M but in the text above the charts says

Mobile 7970 ATI vs. GeForce GTX680M. We've got new benchmarks! I would say she are treated with caution. For info: we get the GTX680 with 4 GB RAM with 2 GB as the benchmark shown.! (Translated by Bing)

Let's see if any more info shows up on the net :)

You gotta bug them. Stay on top of it. I placed an order for the NP8131 and did the deferred shipment promo. So I thought I would just give them a call and they had me just redo another order for a NP9130 and pushed me to my place in line that I was before. I am now in Phase 2.

    Hi
Not sure what I should choose my local supplier has the em models in stock now with sandy bridge and gtx675 for cheap prices is ivy bridge worth waiting the extra 3 weeks for? Will it be more expensive ? And I was going to try wait for the 7k series radeon chips but my other laptop has died and I'm back to using a prehistoric machine, is it really worth waiting ? Will the increases in performance be with the wait?

    Cheers

If you are gaming, it is definitely worth the wait; you don't want to be stuck using an outdated Fermi chip that doesn't even offer the same performance as a cooler, up-to-date 7950M or 7970M card.

It is still somewhat worth the wait for IB, as it is cooler + more efficient, so if you travel a lot it could help the battery life.

Apparently it should be coming out with IB, but that is only speculated from a Portuguese reseller which apparently is selling P150EM barebones with 3rd Gen Intel Processors and 7970M, which ships by April 30th.

you can find out more if you find pastapvz's posts a couple pages back in this thread.

    Keep your fingers crossed guys!

Small bump for the resellers, has anyone tested the 675m in the 150hm yet?
I know malibal is in the middle of doing it, and powernotebooks posted a few videos of the card running in the new EM, still I wonder since its a 580m if it works?

If they got it, I expect other major EU resellers to follow soon.. hopefully the wait will not be that long.

The GTX 670m and GTX675m are already on sale :) at
